Heartfelt thanks

“Maria Villarta, 40, of Oakland Park, thanks Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue members at Holy Cross Hospital on Wednesday. Fire Rescue used a cutting-edge procedure to help save Villarta after she had a heart attack on Sept. 26: Induced Cooling by EMS, which involves lowering the patient’s body temperature. Those accepting her thanks were, from left, Lt. Randy Ovcen; Firefighter/Paramedic Dan Blue; Firefighter/Paramedic Tom Craven; and Lt. Tom Kelly. (Lou Toman/Sun-Sentinel.)
