BCbythesea….concerning the previous Scoop….the Mayor’s printed response to the VFD beach patrol….
‘Volunteers To The Rescue’…. Alexia Campbell….
When posted in the early morning hour…upon my arrival from the airport… seeing the Sentinel online….it was startling…so much so…that this writer ….worn out and weary from travel…could not turn in….until the post was written……
Upon rising after entirely too short of a respite… and opening up the actual newspaper to see this prominently placed article….. on front of the Local section…with 2 color photos… and the remainder of the piece on page 4 …including 2 more color pics…. (quite unusual for the paper to use color photos…)….the anger of such unthinking remarks from the top elected official responsible for representing this town….stung all the more…..
BCbythesea has been very vocal…in posting for the town liaison to get us in the papers……and as also posted…suddenly…. over the past 10 days we hit “pay-dirt” …… today’s article was #4…. being the largest one yet…(BCbythesea…did take the opportunity at the budget meeting last week to personally thank Public Information Officer…Steve d’ Oliveira)…
It was stated from the get-go…something needed to be done…there was an escalating problem at our beaches…..that we could no longer ignore…… as we watched yet another story of a life being lost …. on the local TV news…
It was stated from the inception of this program….that this was a stepping stone…to begin…with 20 hours…to re-evaluate as the program proceeds ….to extend the patrol times and the manpower to meet those needs …and provide that service… now!….
Most thinking…caring ….concerned …people would agree….with VFD Fire Chief Perkins…..as he stated in the same article this day….”It’s a no-brainer”…….”Something is better than nothing.”…
Maybe the Mayor would like to take this opportunity to clarify her unfortunate remarks?………
