Just as South Floridians feel slighted monetarily…(previous post…seceding fro state)…… as we pay in more than we get back…Floridians pay in more premiums to flood program …getting little back…due to Floridians rarely making flood claims…

Not so fast…the much news- covered ruling that paid out the paltry sum to Florida residents was the first in a series of cases…

some numbers of interest…$16.5 million in destruction….

last week 58 thousand were awarded $11.5 million in damages…approx. $89 per …before attorneys take their portion…(50% ?  )…….

Homeowners determined to get full compensation for the trees…approx. $280 for a 6 ft. tree-$930 for 10 ft

Look for an appeal from both Broward homeowners and the state…

Gov. Crist…signed legislation that expands protections for members of condo associations…

Largest overhaul  in 15 years…

The Gov, giveth…and the Gov. taketh away…along with the legislators by sweeping $10 million out of the condos $29 million trust for other state programs!…

Supreme Court will issue an advisory opinion on whether the Leon County court removal of Judge Tim Harvey will be filled by gubernatorial appt. or election…

The judge has Lou Gehrig’s disease… and will retire on full disability…

Highly debated proposal to divert freight train traffic from Orlando Metro area…towards Polk County…failed… special sessions seem a no go…but it will need to be addressed…

CSX contract is until 6/30/08…and with high gas prices…it is not going away…

Board of Governors…

extended olive branch to Legislature by lowering its 8% increase for tuition rates at state colleges and universities to 6%…in line with 2008-09 state budget….

Court Rules on Local Election Rules….

Fl.  Supreme Court this week heard arguments on Charter Amendment that would call for 5%  of precincts to undergo an independent audit following an election…current law 1% for independent audit…

Hometown Democracy…

The Supreme Court heard arguments regarding a financial statement on the Hometown Democracy ballot defeated earlier this year…

All citizen Initiatives are required to submit such details of financial impact of proposal…

The original statement ruled misleading …noted that local governments incur significant costs… new version mentions these costs are also probable…projections show measure costing hundreds of millions statewide…

Falling State Revenue…

Look for April revenue numbers to be reported at the end of the week…to drop below projections…
