Local papers………Town Managers…Pompano And LBTS…
December 5, 2008 by Barbara
It’s Bender Time…Part 5….The Wizard Series…The Manager Of Pompano Beach……..The Sentry…..(link below)…
Last time around…the Sentry investigated the previous City Manager…and brought to light a myriad of problems …which most likely brought about the decision of Pompano Beach to find a replacement…
This time…more investigation…of that replacement…and what happens when all is not as it appears to be…or was presented as the facts…to the town..
This writer has read both the prior series and this new one…now up to part 5…with avid interest in a process that seems to have gone afoul…and a neighboring township that seems to have many disconcerting similarities in the actions of their Town Administration…that is witnessed right here in LBTS….
While they spent $15 thousand for ineffectual headhunter services …in their search…we here in LBTS elevated our Finance Director..to Town Manager, without fully being aware of her ability to serve in that capacity…sadly so…for as previously posted, we have a major problem in this town…with who is charge of departments…and how the town is being managed…with decisions being made that impact us all on a daily basis…..
Any high hopes…in this writer’s opinion …..have long gone away…in observing her hiring practices…lack of advertising in the proper venues for the best …most qualified job seekers…along with what appears to be …. independent decisions on the Public Safety Complex, entryways….and more…
We appear to be the only municipality that does not publish regularly in the Sentinel Public Notices…for Commission meetings etc….although it may be a cost savings and allowable per the law…it severely cuts down on public information that is provided by other towns that use the classifieds…making it available only for those who walk into the Town Hall in many cases to check the board….
It is said that the placement of town positions have been in the Sentinel…although with the exception of lower level positions, found online…this writer has not seen them…and it seems that if this is so…it would still severely limit the response of qualified applicants……In the past the Florida League of Cities was used ….this and other government sites that are preferred by other towns ….No wonder we have no responses and are elevating employees that are without the proper qualifications…Either the positions need to be made available in the correct forum to attract these qualified people ….or the requirements on the books need to be changed….it should not continue to be a bait and switch…where the posted criteria…is not the same as what is allowable by the Manager for those already in the Town’s employ….
It should also be required for all ads in all publications to be posted on the board in town…as well as posting online and off in more reliable publications geared towards government workers…looking for such golden career opportunities that come with great pay…great benefits packages…all while being located in a coastal community…a prize for any longtime government employee…
The government int LBTS is not being run accordingly……Citizens…Commission…Town Manager/Town Attorney…in that order..
Will this too change in 15 months?…
more to come….
