Dear Readers…remember Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington?…. He came to Washington to serve the people …and try as they might the “powers that be ” could not quiet him down…could not stop him from speaking…http://www.americanrhetoric.com/MovieSpeeches/moviespeechmrsmithgoestowashingtonfilibuster1.html …..So here once again on June 30,2009…3 and half hours after he arrived back into town…Commissioner Dodd does what he has done since he was elected…He made a motion and spoke …..He was listening to the will of the people…
Candidate Dodd Jan 14, 2008 Candidate Debate..’His opponent, Stuart Dodd put it this way, “More of the same is just not good enough for this town,” citing high debt, back-door deals, oversized buildings, and failure to heed the will of the people who have been “deceived and mislead” in the past; he emphasized his first priority as “taking the politics out of public safety”.’
COMMISSIONER DODD’S COMMENTS JUNE 30, 2009 SPECIAL MEETING……..
Comm. Dodd-” Ah, you’ll have to excuse me, I got in this afternoon at about 3 pm from Europe, so it’s 2 am in the morning. Ah, I ran on the will of the people and I don’t believe the decision to have the Chief reassigned represents the taxpayers of LBTS. I just returned to land in the middle of this and it’s one of the strangest decisions that I’ve seen this town make in the twelve years that I’ve lived here. I haven’t had time to do my usual thorough research so tonight’s speech is very unrehearsed. And I can say I haven’t been present at any of the meetings between the Chief and the Town Manager to see if there was any disrespect there because I personally have the utmost respect for the job the Chief has done while he’s been here. I don’t know if there were any hidden agendas or whether there was any discussion between the Manager and any other members of the daisd or anything other than the Manager’s own personal decision that was made here and I can categorically state for the record I was not contacted by the Town Manager over this decision. I was not aware of it. I’m deeply saddened by the decision because I think something of this nature should have been taken out with reference to the whole dais. I personally will stick my neck out and go on the line to say I will support the reinstatement of Scott Gooding. I believe it is this dais’ decision to make the decision on finances for the police building. I did get a chance this afternoon to briefly look at the tape of the June 23rd meeting.where Gooding spoke out passionately what for he believes is right for his people within the public services building and what he felt were the minimum requirements. I also actually believe it is this Town’s responsibility to supply reasonable facilities for the BSO to do their job efficiently and that is up to this dais to make those kind of decisions on the finance. So that’s where I’m coming from. I believe it’s not the will of the people. I know I’m going to be out on a limb here because I’m going against the Town Manager’s decision.I think it’s the dais’ responsibility on how we repair and renovate that building! So I will support any move by this dais to reinstate Scott Gooding. Thank You.”
BC- Later on Comm. Dodd did just that…stuck his neck out…and went out on a limb…..even after the mind boggling back and forth with Comm. Clottey (prev post) trying her damndest to stop any sort of motion to direct the Town Manager …including the Town Attorney’s revised motion that informed the Town Manager of the dais’ support or non support for Chief Gooding’s reinstatement…which met the expected result…”Gang of 3″…no support for the Chief…to 2…Mayor Minnet/Comm. Dodd…support for the Chief to be reinstated …
BC- We hear the BSO has not yet sent over 3 candidates for the Town Manager to choose from….We hear that 22 new members have joined the UOT organization in the aftermath of the June 30th meeting….We hear that the “Gang of 3” have been inundated with calls/ e-mails to step down….We hear that the Town Manager is now on the radar big time throughout the Town for her action concerning the Chief, “fiscal irresponsibility” with her actions concerning the Public Safety Complex renovations and the possible breach of a 2nd year of not having her annual performance review.. …by those who let all her other suspect actions…(prev. posts) go by the wayside…now paying very close attention…We saw a big drop in attendance from the 4th of July…(Alert- don’t be led astray by the P.R. in the Mc-FurthTimes/on the dais July 14th…just wait for the actual final accounting…..a public request has been made by this writer..)….And finally watch for a possible “COUP” with the “Gang of 3”..and the Town Manager to try and break the existing contract with BSO after the Vice Mayor’s remarks of the 21% underbid … the news from the Pompano Beach hired consultant ($80,000) to go back to their own police dept. for a $3 million dollar savings (sans the eventual pension increase etc…that will eventually catchup)…LBTS has 30 police/P.Beach has 323 police and a 3% underbid.. It is said the real fear is that the “Broom Boys” are swept out as quickly as they were swept in next March…(1 term was all this Town could take)…The McIntee “Gang” may be on a “tear” to get an LBTS police dept. positioned before their demise!…Think it’s not possible?…We hear the late night sightings of McIntee/Clottey coming and going from the Furth (Town Hall- east) motel might be setting the stage…for this..http://www.internetfl.com/police/
