WELL AT LEAST FORT LAUDERDALE “GETS IT”!….
BC- One day after Aruba Beach Cafe’ announced the cancellation of their 2009 Memorial Day Beach Bash…outside on the beach…citing the looming ordinances that appear to be a “done deal”…with …decibel meter reading code enforcers…..”stipends”….to be put in “lock boxes ” (lock boxes?…was the Vice Mayor channeling Al Gore?)…head counts citing any number over the special permit application….and any other way found to stick it to our businesses…Fort Lauderdale wants to “loosen” their open container laws…to help the businesses in these difficult economic times…WOW!…
HMMM…Comm. Dodd proposed the “entertainment district” not too long ago… …which was shot down….by you know who…And just last month Comm. Clottey complained that the BSO needed to further enforce the open container law in our town….ARGHHHH….
May we suggest Commissioners……Forget the May 15th & 16th “field trip” for decibel meter readings in downtown LBTS…and take it down the road to Fort Lauderdale…Make sure to ask their Commission to join you…3 Commissioners might actually wise up and “get it”…and we can stop the “containment” of business in LBTS…

‘Lauderdale mayor ready to loosen open container laws
Get ready to say, “It’s party time!”
Fort Lauderdale’s mayor says he wants to loosen the city’s strict ban on carrying open
containers of alcohol around at the beach for four major events that are on the calendar.
Mayor Jack Seiler said at a recent meeting that the law has “addressed what it needed to address.”
“We have got the boat show, the world’s largest; followed by the Orange Bowl, followed by the Pro Bowl, followed by the Super Bowl. Four major events, none of which [are] during Spring Break, that I would like to see us looking at relaxing the open container law.”
He said he doesn’t want visitors to have to worry about walking from the Ritz Carlton to another hotel with a beer in hand.
“We are entertaining the world,” he said, “with four world-class events.”
Seiler asked city staff and the city attorney’s office to look into loosening or suspending the public drinking laws, possibly just during the four time frames and not during Spring Break.
Former police chief/now Vice Mayor Bruce Roberts agreed, saying “I think the times change, and it’s important for economic development.”
