November 12, 2008 by Barbara

Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea

Vision Statement: The Commission is committed to supporting our citizens, so that they may uphold civic pride and quality of life within our Town and continue to reside and/or pursue business within our charming community.

BCbythesea….HMMM…Christmas By The Sea…The Chamber….businesses….the bags….the parking….etc…..

Mission Statement: The Commission is committed, under complete transparency, to pursue the will of the people, and acknowledge that any decisions shall maintain and enhance the charm and pattern of a people friendly sea-side village.

BCbythesea….The “gotcha” dais tactics…along with the sweeping under the rug of inflammatory charges….ignoring the “will” of the people…

To focus on and achieve the Town’s vision and mission statements, we will uphold the following values:

1. Town Administration exists to serve our community. We will provide open access, encourage involvement, and ensure accountability.

BCbythesea…hears that requests for public information is not forthcoming…

2. Town employees are invaluable. We will attract the best recruits, retain the top employees, and invest in personal and professional growth.

BCbythesea…We have heads of departments that are under-qualified for the jobs they are doing…

BCbythesea….We have not advertised correctly for top employees to fill these desirable and lucrative positions…

3. Under honest, ethical, and diligent values, we will provide outstanding customer service that is polite, friendly, and responsive.

BCbythesea…We have witnessed the Manager act unprofessional on the dais to Commission members and residents…

BCbythesea…we have seen examples of letters from the Assistant Town Manager that call “customer service” into question…

4. Neighborhood involvement is crucial. We will preserve continued encouragement in our tradition of community participation for all Town activities and functions.

BCbythesea…this writer observed how truly difficult both the Commission and the Administration made it for volunteer boards to assemble…with the proper instruction…announcement of meetings… background materials provided….the setup of Jarvis Hall and televising of evens for many months….

5. Economic viability is essential to our Town’s success. We will assure fairness in the collection and spending of all public funds while effectively ensuring the Town’s short and long term financial strength.

BCbythesea…many expenditures being made are being done without the proper Commission votes…such as entryways…along with money spent for major purchases…such as the hotel…that really need to be done in the future with a referendum for a town-wide vote…on anything over a million dollars…along with resident input on long range plans for Town facilities…

6. To assure a safe and protective environment, we will comply with the Town Charter, as well as local, state, and federal laws.

BCbythesea…The Town Manager is ignoring Ordinance 2004-16…giving her the authority to see that we are safe…and protected…

BCbythesea…We need to know that incident reports can be supplied by all public safety providers…

BCbythesea…We need an Oversight Board….

7. Maintaining the natural environment of the Town is essential. We will strive to preserve and protect the Town’s charm, beaches, and finite natural resources.

BCbythesea…we need to protect our town for it is not…as the Manger says…”black or white”…this is definitely a “gray….non- conforming” village that needs common sense approaches to growth in development….change for improvements…and helping rather than hindering the transition….
