Here’s The Scoop … Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Master Plan Steering Committee Agenda … Moving On? …

July 20, 2010 by Barbara

LOCATION…LOCATION…LOCATION…

Dear Readers…tonight at 7 pm the MPSC meets for their monthly meeting…While we are hoping the committee will move on to bigger overall projects…from the pre-meeting entries for the agenda sent to the Town by one member and directly to the members by another without the required “do not reply or respond “…it sure looks like we are once again going to be stuck with a continuation of what many hoped was over with the new appointments… UGH!..

TOWN OF LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA

MASTER PLAN STEERING COMMITTEE

TUESDAY, JULY 20, 2010
AT 7 PM IN JARVIS HALL

MASTER PLAN STEERING COMMITTEE MINUTES

POWERPOINT: PUBLIC BATHROOMS ON THE BEACH

BC- same as what was shown at the LBTS Comm. Roundtable …available on Town website backup for MPSC…link below…

The sketches  are for El Mar Drive… member John Panitsas P.E. wants to revisit the one lane v. 2 lanes as he thinks it was not enough time and a new commission…he sent through the Town a letter to the committee on July 6th with his concerns.. He also supplied the sketches with some pretty direct verbage attached as to what he wants for El Mar Drive…These are also in the MPSC Backup online …link below…I will add the verbage below…with descriptions he has in sketch #10… Co-Chair Edmund Malkoon sent an e-mail to his fellow members without the ” no reply to all” and “do not respond” attached …He included an article from BTSFuture and some information he asked former MPSC member and BTSFuture Publisher Michael Arker for…This action by the Co-Chair is again cause for concern coming right after his outrageous comments at the last meeting asserting the Commissioners should not attend and should not speak … In this writer’s opinion that was way off …A real head scratcher due to the Commissioners he does not want in attendance being the ones that appointed him to his seat!…OUCH!…

“SKETCH 5

Ocampo Design- Two Lane Option

This design is limiting the width of the sidewalks to 6 ft. Pedestrians will continue to walk on the street. Design in Progress JP 7/10/10

SKETCH 6

Suggestion: Limit the traffic to one lane and create a multi-purpose lane for pedestrians, bicycles, etc.. Multi-purpose lane have to have different surface that you can also drive on to allow back out parking and event parking. See options A and B. El Mar Drive Proposed Limited Time Experiment JP 7/10/10

SKETCH 7

If event parking is no longer required, the above suggested plan, if successful, can’t be finalized without a dividing island for safety. El Mar Dr. Proposed Final Plan JP 7/10/10

SKETCH 8

Isometric of Option A (Sketch SK-6), but with 8 ft. activity lames and 10 ft travel lanes. El Mar. Dr. Limited Experiment (Isometric) JP 6/8/10

SKETCH 9

Isometric of original suggestion illustrating 10 ft. sidewalks, 11 ft travel lanes, 4 ft. bicycle lanes and 3 ft. safety island to be used for comparison. El Mar. Dr. Acceptable Design JP 4/26/10”

SKETCH 10

contains the explanations above…

BC- While Mr. Panitsas sketches look nice…what’s missing the reality of what is on El Mar Drive…the backout parking…the telephone/utility poles…and the fact that people have clearly said they will not stop walking in the street… In any event…it’snow time to move on to the revision for the Master Plan…and then address this …not the other way around…
