IGUANA$$$$…..

This writer made a public records request after reading Commissioner “Clueless” Clottey’s statements about the very successful iguana eradication program in LBTS that she initiated in 2008 written up in the Sentinel ..(prev. post)….. I picked up the request today… This successful foray into Clottey’s “pet” project …(pun intended) …produced the following information……

On October 14, 2008 $5,000 was allocated for it……

On November 25, 2008 Mike Walker, Assistant Director of Municipal Services sent a memo to Town Manager Ester Colon with 4 quotes for “Nuisance Iguanas” …He attached 4 quotes and recommended Wildlife Removal  with the lowest price per iguana  according to size $28.50 and $44.50 …the other 3 were $ Aspin Animal at 45/ Iguana Removal at $53/Advanced Wildlife at  $55

On January 26, 2009 the Town of LBTS paid Wildlife Removal Services Inc. $1, 315.50 for 27 large iguanas and 4 small iguanas …

On March 12, 2009 the Town of LBTS paid Wildlife Removal Services Inc.$737.00 for 14 large iguanas. and 4 small iguanas…

On Sept. 9, 2009 the Town of LBTS paid Joe Pelegi INC DBA Critter Control $2,947.50 … for 5 invoices …for 5 properties in LBTS…

#1  property on SE 21 Ave  in Bel Air had 7 iguanas removed for $129.00 each ….. Total cost $903.00 on Aug. 12, 2009

#2 property on 1431 S Ocean Drive in the Palm Club  had 7 iguanas removed for $129.00 each ….Total cost $903.00 0n Aug. 12, 2009

#3 another property on 1431 S Ocean Drive in the Palm Club had 7 iguanas removed for $129.00 each…. Total cost $903.00 on Aug. 12, 2009

#4 property on SE 18 St. in Bel Air had 1 iguana removed for $129.00 on Aug. 13, 2009

#5 property on SE 19 St. in Bel Air had 1 iguana removed for $109.50 on Aug. 12, 2009

According to the backup material in the PRR …a memo was sent to Town Manger Colon from Mike Walker Assistant Municipal Service Director  Re: Iguana Trapper.. On July 31,2009 .. “We are requesting to void our previous contract with Aspin Animal Rodent Specialists. We would like to reopen a new Purchase Order with Critter Control with the remaining funds, as they were the next lowest and qualified bidder.”….

BC- Only problem…according to the PRR received as shown above Critter Control was not even on the list Mike Walker sent to Town Manger on Nov. 25, 2008!… And Aspin was not who the Town went with..The Town went with the company Mike Wallace recommended … Wildlife Removal …and Aspin was listed as 2nd lowest bidder…OOPS!… Quite a jump in price 3x the amount approved!…Stranger still is the attached memo to Municipal Director Don Prince on 11/12/2008.from Critter Control ..Hmmm…

Commissioner “Clueless” Clottey who had the gall to sit on the dais and try to bargain down the Chamber of Commerce at the Jan 26, 2010 Commission meeting after her “galpal” Town Manger Colon “shorted” the Chamber out of $9,000 of their budgeted funds approved in September by all 5 commissioners…and her “pet” project cost the taxpayers of LBTS in Aug. 2009 close to $3000.00 for only 5 properties in the north to remove 23 iguanas!…OUCH!…

Forget about short term rentals…it’s time to go into the iguana removal business with the Town of LBTS!….

more to come….
