PUBLIC NOTICE
Availability of the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Calypso LNG Deepwater Port License Apllication
It states the U. S. Coast Guard and the Maritime Administration announce the availability of the final impact statement (EIS) for the Calypso Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Deepwater Gas Port License Apllication…
A description of what calypso proposes to construct…and the location….(well known by now by NIMBY crowd along the Fort Lauderdale/LBTS coast)…how it is supposed to operate……
lease area….in Federal waters…Outer Continental Shelf in OCS Block NG17-06 (Bahamas) ….8-10 miles offshore…northeast of Port Everglades/in a water depth of 800-950 feet /each unloading buoy would connect to a flexible pipeline suspended in the water column / each proposed pipeline would be approx. 2.5 miles in length located on the sea floor….
Description of the Ports design / use….a permanently moored unloading buoy system with 2 submersible unloading buoys separated by a distance of approx. 3 miles/ buoys designed to moor and unload 2 types of LNG vessels/ a transport and regasification vessel (TRV) and a storage and regasification ship (SRS)/ unloading buoys would be connected through the vessels hull to specially designed turrets that enable the the vessel to weathervane/rotate in response to prevailing wind, wave, current directions. When the vessels are not present the unloading buoys would be submerged 100 feet below the sea surface. BothTRV/SRS would be equipped to vaporize LNG cargo to pipeline. Conventional LNG carriers would berth alongside and transfer LNG to the SRS vial loading arms.
This notice is for the availability of the final EIS for the project. An announcement of the public hearing for matters relevant to the approval, denial, approval with conditions of the license application will be published in the future and will include the opportunity for public comments.

Hats off to Fred….on calling our NIMBY neighbors for wanting the benefits without participating….
Comparisons …..to where our fuel comes from now……from places like the Niger Valley……..to Texas,Louisiana,Mississippi, and Alabama….
Final paragraph..
‘Heck Of A Ruckus”….
the play by play of the Galt opposition…the exaggerated fears…of terrorists…explosions…and obstructing the views….
ending with this…. ‘The claim that Florida deserves an exemption from the unseemly aspects of energy extraction seems at odds with its careless approach to energy conservation. Or renewable energy.’
‘(The Sunshine State has yet to make the top 10 in use of solar energy.)’
‘I wonder if the residents of the Niger Valley, flames spewing overhead, complain about their views.’

Some answers came by phone to Comm. Clottey this morning from the Director of Gov. and Regulatory Affairs….and V.P. of Suez….
To their credit they responded …and answered all of the questions she had asked and more that she asked in this second round…
Citizens……whatever their personal views are on this project ….should be assured and impressed by the level of input that is coming from all involved in this pressing issue…
Just a few of the highlights…with details and specifics …sure to be addressed by Comm. Clottey at the 6/11/08 commission meeting…when Calypso/Suez will be on the agenda…
according to the gentlemen …
State and national officials were aware of this project from 2002…
40 organizations were informed of this project…from 2002/2003….
Initially they indicated they were not aware of Hollywoods approval for the pipeline….from the Bahamas…stating it was not them….
later in the conversation…they did discuss the very project with its approval in 2004…previous post…
The present location for the port is due to….
it being a industrialized area…not heavily populated….
BCbythesea… the Comm. took issue with this …stating the opposite is fact….we are definitely heavily populated…
It can not be in Miami-Dade…because the government would not approve it….due to the Biscayne Aquatic Reserve….
It can not be north because FGT…(Florida Gas Transmission)…and FPL did not want it that far away…with less industrial customers…
Wind tests were done at 2.6 meters per second…producing a bigger burn …with a 3.9 mile radius….
the lower the wind speed…keeps the gas cloud together…
the higher the speed …disperses the gas quickly…
example used…blowing out a match….
more to come…..

Looks like Wednesday morning was the meeting day for Comm. Dodd to visit the Calypso Rep. at their offices in Las Olas….
BCbythesea…hears he had a few questions …technical in nature that caught them by surprise….
His expertise and experience on the ocean…along with his vast knowledge with vessels and voyages……
gave them some homework to do….
Some real answers should be received by the Commissioner … and should be revealed at the 6/11/08 commission meeting….
Faithful readers are aware…Calypso/Suez will be front and center that evening…
making their side known….
more to come….

Looks like Calypso/Suez has even more plans in the works with FPL…
By 2011…there will be 3 new power stations built…
3 existing power station will be converted from coal to LNG….(liquid natural gas)
getting Florida away from fossil-fuels…
BCbythesea….the real question…is the driving force in the location….the “stakeholders.”…FPL?
HMMM… Front Page….today…Miami Herald…
FPL wants to hike bills 16%…
Do you know LNG Express?….
for anywhere from approx. $600 up….
you to can purchase …
Zeus Development Corporation’s post- conference reports on various LNG projects…worldwide…
such as…”LNG Non- Traditional Concepts for Receiving and Regasification”…(ISBN 0-615-11567-5)….$597 for a 77 page report…
any buyers?
Local paper bias?….
