Here’s The Scoop….Is The “Fix” In?…4Th Of July Fireworks….

April 15, 2009 by Barbara

The RFP for the fireworks was put on the “board” in Town Hall on April 9th…It did not show up online until yesterday…April 14th…and the proposals are due…TOMORROW April 16th…What’s up with that?….

We hear DEP has said it can be done with a stage built off the ground…3 feet high…and posts 7 feet apart…

We also  hear from a knowledgeable source that 4” shells would require a safety non- inhabitable area anywhere within 280 feet in circumference  … more area will be required for high winds….(further distance for bigger shells )

Again, this is El Prado Beach area….with the 50X75 foot tent in the park that day….Prime Beach area for 4th activities….

Again, no postings of July 4th meetings….. and the Town staff is assisting in this ruse…by limiting the RFP advertising and the response time…

Either the vendor is already chosen…or we are going the Hollywood route…no fireworks…(at this point)……

Excerpts………

‘Hollywood considers downsizing, eliminating July 4th fireworks show

The options city commissioners will consider:

– A full-scale blast, including firing off fireworks from a barge, that will cost the city about $102,000.

The offshore option has always been a popular method, with the barge navigating across the city’s shoreline during the display.

– Another option would be to ignite the fireworks from inland for about $82,000.

– The final option calls for a party but with no fireworks at all — a savings of up to $75,000.
