Here’s The Scoop…Scene And Heard Around Town…
June 14, 2009 by Barbara
ELVIS HAS NOT LEFT THE STAGE….
Saturday night Elvis was rockin’ and rollin’ in LBTS!…Good thing because for the month of June…. residents, patrons and tourists are faced with no street music on Friday nights …Village Grille chose to take the time off…Will Jazz return?…Who knows with the anti- business climate seen coming from the Mc-Gang of 3 and the Town Administration!
We hear the Grille has pulled its advertisement from both local newspapers…and the scuttlebutt surrounding this action…is very telling of those who are telling it!…It might be cause to be leery of where you advertise if you are a business in this town…..
We hear (hearsay) that the Editors of the Mc-Furth BTSTimes told the CIC members at their meeting last week as well as others around town…that the Grille “is having money problems”…OUCH!….
BC- This is not the first business in town to have the Times Editors make “noise” about their solvency according to those who have heard of it from the recipients of such claims…
We have repeatedly seen an accumulation of disturbing interference in town businesses…whether it is a double standard in use of alleyways…use of their sidewalk cafe’s…having events on private property or for two days…. competing with Town sponsored events…and even going so far as to delve into their leases and make erroneous statements on the dais…….followed by phone calls or conversations by some trying to defend their anti-business tactics by further going into certain business’ ownership information real or not… YIKES!…
Perhaps these actions taken by the Grille are the opening..non-political salvos against the mounting anti-business actions coming from the majority on the dais and the administration…such as these…
The noise ordinance … has been “deferred to a date certain” by the Commission yet again…That date July 28,2009…guarantees most naysayers will not be in town to oppose at public comments…We hear Comm. Clottey in speaking to the CIC (hearsay) told them the noise ordinance was not going anywhere…If true…how could she make such a remark, without raising concerns of Sunshine?..(Perhaps the CIC has the video and the minutes to clear it up?)……
The “field trip” on the 15th of May ..(online Town website….http://lbts.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=220….)…shows the Commission….especially the Vice Mayor repeatedly going after Village Grille….accusing them of purposely “not playing fair” with the loudness of the music being played that night……(Dave Gadsby was called by Peggy Mohler …shown on the tape…and she says he assures them it is the norm at that hour )….
Maybe it was the Town Manager’s “GOTCHA”…included in both the Village Grille and the Athena By The Sea special event permits that call for reimbursement for paying for the Town code officer to monitor each weeks event for noise and headcount…unless “waived by the Commission”…along with cutting down the application from annually to 3 months…requiring the businesses to jump through the hoops four times a year!…
Or maybe the Vice Mayor’s…”lockbox” was the catalyst…as he [Mcintee ] “strong-armed Dave Gadsby with giving to the Town for using the streets…(charging by the foot)…and diminishing Mr. Gadsby by telling him if business is good…”it’s a win-win” and if business is bad…come to him [McIntee] and they’ll work something out…(That one contained in the backup video should go to the Ethics Commission in this writer’s opinion)…Although the VM let it be known the Town was “helping” Dave and the Grille out by not making them pay for the parking meters in the off season…we hear that too bit the dust!…HMMM…
Add to that code enforcement showing up in town for “sweeps” checking on whatever else suits their citation fancy…Who needs it?….
SO NOW WE’RE DOWN TO ONE….
Athena will be continuing with Saturday nights…much to the delight of many….Athena will be continuing to advertise…but in a paper that acts professionally about those who choose to advertise with them always mindful that advertisers are important…coveted and most often are apt to return at some point in time…(Guess it’s just another glaring difference in the editorial “makeup” of the rival newspaper wars)….
Readers need to let the businesses know how much they mean to our town…Let those who run the businesses know that their efforts throughout the years have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated…Let them know we back them…not the Gang of 3 or the current Administration and certainly not the actions we have witnessed over the last months!…
Let the music play….Friday…Saturday….4th of July….etc…etc….etc….
more to come….
