Here’s The Scoop…”Commissioners”…. “Take Down That Fence”….

COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGEDY…

Trucker forgets medication, wrecks construction site

An eyewitness in the aftermath…of this 18 wheeler being stuck at the pier…relays a situation of incomprehensible bullheadedness…on behalf of the de-facto VFD Chief…in remedying the situation…and completing the removal of this massive truck….

The driver was taken away to Holy Cross Hospital….it was said he was screaming …and needed to be treated for whatever made him snap…it is said he ran a red light and took off down Commercial…making a u-turn in the pier parking lot…getting stuck in the pier construction…before jumping out of the vehicle…

BSO arrived…and then the VFD…”a little groggy…but they came”…It is said the Chief was there..and Training Officer McIntee arrived a short time afterward….ignoring the owner of the property…what gives?…The hat he was wearing this evening was the VFD hat…therefore proper VFD-SOP  behavior demands that he present himself in a manner of assurance …to be instructional…and receptive to the resident and owner…leaving his political differences at the dais!…(The Chief should take issue with this…per the By-laws)…

The owners….the tow truck driver along with VFD/BSO personnel wanted to open up the fence on the south side of the pier parking lot for easy removal of the truck…averting destruction of the 40 year old barriers at the entry…

We hear the Training Officer nixed this approach…and absurd discussion took place about contacting the Manager first…despite this being an emergency …safety issue…

After some time..going to great lengths …but unable to contact the Manager at 5 A M ……one of the  owners had arrived…put his foot down…and BSO Chief Scott Gooding stood up to the plate and said it was time to take down the fence…

The word is…that while the VFD was finally taking it down…instructions of being careful not to break it for it to be reinstalled……came from Training Officer McIntee…WOW!…

The fence down…the tow truck did its job and the truck was out by

7 A M…finally…free and clear…

This could have been a tragedy…if the time of the event was different…

For many days that tight turn…right in front of the new pavilion is backed up almost halfway up the block…leading out into the circle…with patrons waiting to valet in Aruba….This along with  the Aruba patrons sitting in their outside dining area……increasing even more….with the crowds of people who will congregate at the new pavilion…at the end of February….a permanent access from the south side of the pier parking lot is definitely warranted…

Commissioners…it is time…Take down the fence…at least the rest of it…and don’t put it back up again….it’s a no- brainer…and the right thing to do…

Timing is everything…this very item is on the agenda…16 d. New Business….Discussion and/or action regarding the opening pier access road (Mayor Minnet)….at the continuation 12/16/08 Commission Meeting 9 A M…Saturday morning 12/20/08…Jarvis Hall…
