Here’s The Scoop..How Do Pedestrians Access The LBTS Beach?…
June 7, 2009 by Barbara
DO THEY USE THE ORIANA BEACH ACCESS?….
BC-VM McIntee says this is the #1 access for pedestrians heading to our beach…..Really?…This led to a “flawed” Alleyway Study (5/7/09) the Town paid for ($2,200- $2,500) from Chen & Assoc….. The Engineer came to the May 26,2009 meeting and admitted after being questioned by Comm. Dodd he never did a physical count for pedestrian use. He was not quite forthcoming on his role, and whether he knew of the egress issue for use from the Pier parking lot…The Town Manager tried to cover her tracks ( her M.O.) stating this was for signage only…The VM tried to assert far more innuendo into the already questionable study to suit his ongoing personal vendetta and also tried to change the previous 4-1 Commission vote ( he dissented) for use to be for “emergency situation”…(such as backup on Commercial and any situation that keeps parked cars from exiting the pier lot)…to insist it was for “emergency vehicles”…Comm. Clottey to her credit did correct him…..Louis Marchelos spoke of a fax sent to him, purported to be from Mr. Bamforth via Development Director Jeff Bowman in Jan. which put a another wrinkle into this absurd singling out of only one alleyway in town…The widest ..least used alleyway in town that was open for 45 years!… HMMMM…
ALLEYWAY # 6 ….(ORIANA)…(as designated in the 5/7/09 Alleyway Study… page 6)…Recommendation..”Leave the alleyway designated for emergency vehicles only and do not open it up to vehicle traffic in either direction”…”DO NOT ALLOW EGRESS FROM PIER PARKING LOT EXCEPT IN A EMERGENCY SITUATION”…HMMM…The engineer seems to be recommending what the Commission voted on!….OOPS!…
CASE IN POINT FOR EGRESS FROM THE PIER LOT….A recent afternoon…A recurring sight…VFD and AMR blocking access and egress of the Pier parking lot…OOPS!….
ALLEYWAY # 3…(ARUBA )…(as designated in the 5/7/09 Alleyway Study..page 4)…”Because the alleyway is used for access to parking, to access to and from the valet lot and for access to existing dumpsters, we do not feel it is appropriate to change conditions of this segment without further research and public involvement session. Also, because this alley dead ends at the beach, there is no way to designate it as one way. The Town should strongly consider making this alley private and only accessible by adjacent business owners and their vendors.”…Recommendation; “DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES; ALLOW TRAFFIC TO TRAVEL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS.”…HUH?….
BC- What’s wrong with this (Engineer/Town Administration/ Mc-Gang picture?…(pun intended!)…
AND THE NUMBER 1 ACCESS FOR BEACH GOING PEDESTRIANS…..DRUMROLL PLEASE…..
BC-AHHH….THOSE PICTURES…..THEY EACH DO SAY A THOUSAND WORDS….These should say “WE’RE SORRY!”…
Time to set things right…Time for that u-turn Commissioners…open the egress for the Pier lot…and let’s play fair and square!…
more to come….
