Here’s The Scoop … Scene And Heard Around Town … And More ….

February 26, 2010 by Barbara

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?…

Today an Avid Reader drove by “Town Hall East” aka Blue Seas Inn aka Campaign Headquarters for Silverstone/Evans/ Couriel aka as By The Sea Times and as we have seen practically 24-7 parked out in front are 2 Town Commissioners…Silverstone (Silver Porsche) and Clottey (white prius)…

Today as Readers will see Comm. Silverstone is parked in a Handicapped spot (fitting most will reply) and Clottey is parked in 2 spots (fitting as well )… These 2 are sticking their middle finger up to Sunshine rules by being together with the Furths and discussing what they must be discussing.. …No one believes they are 24-7 discussing the Obama Health Care Package or the weather!…

Puts quite a damper on Candidate Silverstone’s claims at the 2nd Meet the Candidates Night….insisting  HE  follows the rules!…

It’s not NICE to park in the Handicapped spaces!… Commissioner Jim “He’s not a Nice Guy” Silverstone…a moniker that still fits!…

………………………………

CROSSING THE LINE….

So much for not being political…Town Manager Esther Colon has done it again…She has put on the March 4, 2010 agenda to present past and present accomplishments of  Commission and Staff!… Give me a break…pure politics at its worst!…There are 2 Commissioner that are candidates and the Town Manager knows her job is jeopardy with all she has done  and her outbursts on the dais (See Feb 9, 2010 online meeting for her at her finest… http://lbts.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=287 ) This should be deferred to the first meeting of the new Commission when the old Commission is addressed and says their farewells!…

a. Commission & Staff Past & Present Accomplishments

……………………..

JUST ANOTHER OBSTACLE IN THIS ELECTION ….

The Town has decided after all these years to try and pull a fast one …to say that pop-up tents used outside the Polling places will not be allowed without a special permit…That permit must be in 60 days before!… True  to the style of management we have endured over the last 2+ years with this Town Manager she never ever said she would be pulling this stunt!… Here we are days away and her Asst. Town Clerk Nikki Smith stood in Jarvis Hall last night giving the Esther Colon “no gray area” spiel! …Nikki said just because it was not enforced before it will be now!…The only way to override this travesty is for the Commission to waive it…and it should!… Notice was given to candidates for their signs…notice was given to businesses for the Manager’s lousy “Special Events and Street Closures Forums” …but not a word that the Administration would try this final stunt to stick it to all those who are involved in this election!… Shame on any member of the Administration or the Commission that goes along with this one!…

……………………………

COMMISSIONER SILVERSTONE THINKS THE STATE’S ETHIC OVERSIGHT IS ENOUGH… REALLY?….

The Asst. State Atty. has sent a “close-out memorandum” on the e-mail situation in LBTS…Readers this is about the Vice Mayor being asked for his e-mails after BSO Chief Scott Gooding was terminated by Town Manager Esther Colon…The Vice Mayor is on video stating he deleted all his e-mails (3 1/2 yrs worth of Town related business a req. per sunshine rules)… Then to retaliate VM McIntee went after Comm. Dodd for months of e-mails to perhaps dig into any correspondence with this writer… Comm. Dodd went to a great deal of time and expense to separate out his e-mail and offered it up at a cost as was his right…the VM perhaps knowing full well he was about to be tossed aside by the VFD and the CIC and slither out of town with his tail between his legs… (Quack, Quack)…took a pass at spending the big bucks… Now the outcome …which should produce an outcry!…

Feb. 18, 2010

“Reason for Close-Out:

The memo explains the above and includes the dates..of who made complaints against who and why…Then the SAO gave case law and the conclusions to close-out the complaints…

“In State v, City of Clearwater, 883 So2d. 149 (Fla. 2003), the Florida Supreme Court held that personal emails are not considered public records by virtue of their placement on a government owned computer system. However 119.011 (12) can be interpreted to mean that emails stored in a personal computer which were “made or received pursuant to law or ordinance or in connection with the transaction of official business by any agency” are public records

In the matter, I have concluded that Commissioner Dodd is not n violation of Chapter 119 as he made a good faith effort to segregate Town related business emails from his personal emails and the Broward SAO should not be involved in determining the reasonable cost of producing Town related emails.

While I have also concluded that Vice Mayor McIntee should not have deleted any Town related emails from his personal computer, I do not find his actions in this particular case warrant prosecution for a violation of Chapter 119. Specifically, Mr. Brandt was primarily seeking email communications between Town Manager Colon and Vice Mayor McIntee and if they were ever sent, these Town related emails would be stored and remain preserved in the government-owned computer system utilized by Town Manager Colon.

Thus, the matter, as it pertains to the related complaints filed by Vice Mayor McIntee against Commissioner Dodd and by Mark Brown and Yann Brandt against Vice Mayor McIntee should now be closed.”

…………………….

This is what is wrong with the system…in this writer’s opinion…It appears that once again Vice Mayor McIntee will be given a “pass” …not even a “slap on the wrist”…Yes, he deleted 3 1/2 years Town related email…Yes, it was not to be allowed…But it appears because the complaint was specified on email that was backed up elsewhere…the rest of the emails ( prev. posts proved the VM’s statements of not “even knowing how to email” were false)… that were deleted are no big deal!… YIKES….

More to come…..

Here’s The Scoop … An Invitation To Sea Ranch Club Residents Building A B & C … Tonight Feb. 18, 2010 … 7 PM The Ocean Room ….

February 18, 2010 by Barbara

SRC RESIDENTS….COME MEET THE CANDIDATES … WHO CAN MAKE A POSITIVE CHANGE ….

Dear Sea Ranch Club Readers … The time is finally here…2 years ago I came to many of you and told you I was backing candidates Wick, Clottey and Dodd…I had  literature distributed to you when you asked and talked them up in mailroom, the lobby and anywhere else I encountered many of my fellow SRC neighbors whether on the grounds…walking El Mar Drive or running into many of you at a weekend night special events downtown…I had their lawn signs on my car in the parking garage and I brought them to a meet and greet in the Ocean room for questions and answers… The response was a first for SRC…For it was SRC that decided the election and put candidates Clottey and Dodd into office…Wick was a close one as he lost by only 16 votes…

I was overwhelmed by the response from these 3 buildings…and of course very happy that all would be right in LBTS with a new majority on the dais…

Unfortunately, that euphoria was short-lived…Right out of the proverbial gate I was left with egg on my face when to my horror it became apparent that another agenda was in place that I was not privy to!… I felt like someone had kicked me right in the gut as I watched a series of votes on the dais that ran counter to the campaign promises made and the good faith messages I delivered to my SRC neighbors on behalf of the CIC and those incumbent commissioners who were now elevated to roles of seniority on the dais…There was alot of “splainin”‘ to do as I walked around our grounds …ran into you all in the garage…in the elevator and at SRC meetings…and I could not!…I hung my head as you all asked what’s up with the new compensation for the commissioners…the insurance…the cell phones and most importantly…why did “they” purchase “that building”…”That crappy hotel for $2 million?”…  With my head still hung low, I was apologetic in my replies, chagrined by my ignorance  of this “need to know Mc-Furth” agenda and quickly angered for being hoodwinked…I felt true remorse for going out and offering up to my neighbors assertions of what would be coming with a new majority in place ….assured fiscal responsibility and a willingness for inclusion from both politically opposed factions…finally…It could not have been farther from the truth!..

I made a vow that I would do whatever it took to rectify what I helped create in 2008…..Over the last 2 years I made it my mission so that my neighbors in SRC and the taxpayers and voters of LBTS would not walk into the election booth or send in their absentee ballot for the 2010 municipal election without having all the facts… I presented them on this site…each and every day…throughout the day …Those who were impacted by the postings quickly exposed… and they fought back with countless threats…a Mc-Furth nasty anti BCbythesea site…and constant mudslinging that never stuck…despite their best efforts…

SRC neighbors, over the past months you  have again asked me I who I am endorsing…You have looked at my cars (2 this year) with the lawn signs of those candidates in the building’s garage…You have inquired if they they will be coming to speak…. and the answer is yes…I hope you will come to the most important part of my “making amends” to make up for the last two years…Come and meet the 3 candidates I support for the LBTS Commission … Mayor Roseann Minnet…District 1 Candidate Scot Sasser ….District 2 Candidate Chris Vincent…in the Ocean Room at 7 pm…It is for SRC residents only…and offers you the opportunity to hear them…and to ask them questions on the issues…

Although I did not back nor vote for Mayor Minnet, I watched our Mayor grow into her role with each fiscally responsible vote, She did her job with her head held high no matter what was being orchestrated around her to demean her as our Mayor and as a person…Mayor Minnet was the only member of the dais who voted no to the extra compensation of insurance and cell phones for commissioners…..The only one who voted no to the $2 million dollar public safety building…Mayor Minnet, if you watch any video online from any commission meeting over the last 2 years was the only member of the dais who was short and succinct in her allotted time whether it was in her concise questioning on agenda items or her prepared Commissioner comments as she presided over the meetings…As I have often said to you, my neighbors in SRC …with each and every one one of Mayor Minnet’s fiscally responsible votes…”Her stock went up” in SRC with the voters and taxpayers alike!…

Her running mates Candidate Scot Sasser and Candidate Chris Vincent are cut from the same fiscally responsible cloth…Each is on record for saying they would have voted the same as the Mayor if they were on the dais when it came to those early 2008 votes…Both gentlemen are fully supportive of the VFD, AMR and the BSO Police as is the Mayor……. A look at public comments for the past few years shows that these two candidates were involved and engaged long before they decided to run for their respective seats on the dais on March 9, 2010…

As a voter and someone who knows the specifics of what is happening in this Town… I can tell you that Scot and Chris will provide you, the residents of SRC   the kind of representation, accessibility and accountability that has been missing over the last 2 years…

All three candidates have made it abundantly clear they fully support our Town Charter for height limits and will always look for ways to enhance LBTS in maintaining and retaining our ocean views and ocean access along with finding innovative ways to assist with our tourism and downtown businesses ….

I will tell you now, a vote for Mayor Roseann Minnet, District 1 Candidate Scot Sasser and District 2 Candidate Chris Vincent will absolutely rectify what I helped to create in 2008!…

DISTRICT 1 CANDIDATE SCOT SASSER

OPENING:

Good evening, my name is Scot Sasser and I am running for Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Commissioner District 1. My wife, Teresa, and I are raising two children here and we want to retire here. We chose Lauderdale-By-The-Sea because of the charm and uniqueness we saw in this quaint beachside village. I am telling you this to say we are “all in” here and want to ensure that what we hold dear is preserved for all of us as well as for future generations.

I have been involved for quite some time, attending commission meetings, voicing my concerns, meeting with citizens in their homes and, most importantly, I’ve been listening. Through my involvement I have learned that you, like I, have the same concerns and that you think it is time for a change.

I want to return a sense of professionalism, honor, dignity and ethics to our local government.

The office of Commissioner is not one to take lightly and I assure you tonight that I am up to the task.

My experience in business has taught me the importance of respecting different opinions, cultural differences and the ability to find solutions through these differences.

I know the value of strategic planning to ensure the outcome remains true to the overall goal and that money, time and resources are not wasted.

Most importantly, I know the value of listening to others. I have two ears and one mouth for a reason. I will listen twice as much as I speak.

I have listened and heard your concerns and I do not, and will not, take them or your trust lightly.

I will work hard in making sure that your voice is heard.

I will ensure that your safety is my personal concern.

I will champion a code of ethics as well as a personal code of conduct for all town elected officials.

I will promote unity and respect by setting the example up here on this dais.

I ask for your, support tonight, your vote on March 9th and your participation into the future.

Thank you.”

CLOSING:

Thank you for your time and consideration tonight. I began this evening by telling you why I decided to become a candidate for Commissioner.

We need to bring professionalism, decorum, humility and ethics back to our town government.

The next few years will be critical to our town. We have no time to waste bickering, arguing, attacking and piece mealing our way into the future.

I will be diligent in making sure we have an overall plan that ensures we hit the strategic mark for our town.

I will make sure that we preserve our greenspace and ocean views by holding firm to our setbacks and municipal codes that ensure the protection of our most precious asset.

I will ensure our public safety is always kept to the highest standards possible.

Most importantly, I will listen and return your voice to our town government.

Make no mistake. I cannot do this alone. I ask for your support tonight, your vote on March 9th and your involvement into the future.

Thank you.”

……………………………..
DISTRICT 2 CANDIDATE CHRIS VINCENT
OPENING:

“Good evening ladies and gentlemen and thank you for joining us. I would also like to thank the League Of Women Voters for putting this event together. My name is Chris Vincent and I am your candidate for commissioner for District 2.

My wife Christine and I have lived in Silver Shores for the past 8 years with our nine year old daughter Paige. We chose to live in Lauderdale By The Sea and raise our daughter here just like Christine’s family has for the past 35 years.

I have always followed our town politics by either attending meetings, or watching them at home. Over the last few years the decorum on the dais has been disappointing. I no longer could sit back and just watch. I began addressing the commission on issues and decisions that have been made in haste or due to personal agendas.

As I have gone door to door many of the residents and businesses that I have spoken with feel the same way. It has become obvious that certain commissioners have not listened and voted against the will of the people and the recommendations of our boards and committees.

I understand how important it is to listen and respect others. I’ve been doing just that for 30 years as a business owner… I’ve listened to my customers, my vendors and my employees, this has allowed all of us to reach our goals together. I know how to budget… cut costs… and make ends meet. These challenges build character, integrity and has taught me fiscal responsibility.

I have the experience necessary to represent you as your next commissioner.

I stand for Strong Public Safety…

A Defined Code of ethics…

I believe in accountability and transparency.

I support our height limits in the charter. No commission now or ever can change that.

I will listen to all taxpayers and residents and treat you with the dignity and respect, which you deserve.

Thank you”
CLOSING:

“I would like to thank everyone here and at home for listening tonight. I am glad you had the opportunity to get to know me better… We can have a fresh start without losing sight of our history. I believe deep down we all want the same things for our town, the best public safety possible, low taxes, a thriving business district while maintaining our quaint seaside village.

To get there we must first start by listening to all of the people. I will do that. I have knocked on your doors and met with residents in our condominiums. At the end of the day the future of the town is in your hands, where it should be. Please make sure to get out and vote. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard and participate in this important election. My name is Chris Vincent and I am asking for your trust and vote on March 9th. Thank you.”
