Somethings Gotta Give

What is with politicians local, state and national?

Are they living in the a bubble?

Two articles in the Sun-Sentinel Saturday…www.sunsentinel.com

First Davie is increasing the pay of their fire department…a cost to the taxpayers of 109 thousand dollars in just the first eight months.

An increase in salaries of 10% while Davie is expecting to trim 2 million from their budget, due to the property tax amendment.

Right next to it a second article…. Pembroke Pines commissioners will get a 2.75 % raise…as a result of giving raises to 750 union and non- union employees…cost to their taxpayers…800 thousand dollar.

How long will it be until taxpayers say enough is enough…..this is not the time!

Perception is one part of it….. it just looks bad…when taxpayers are told that they will be paying more for less in services and will need to adjust their own way of living to do so…. then the politicians turn around and vote for increases only to add to that burden….come on!

Commissioners….not a full- time position….a choice to give back to your community …to serve….to be reasonable, insurance…expense accounts….automobiles… pensions…increased salaries…. need to reflect what is happening with those who you represent.

There is going to be a time in the not so distant future when the average Joe is going to actually see what comes with these jobs…. that doesn’t come with his anymore……pensions…multiple pensions….who is going to cover these pensions?

Take the time to see who walks away with what….

How much pension does a town commissioner receive after what amount of time on the dais?

How much pension does a Broward County Commissioner receive?

What if they change jobs…as Lori Parrish did after years on the Broward County Commission…..then becoming the Broward County Property Appraiser….she will receive 2 pensions…how much?

Town Managers….Assistant to the Town Managers…..and down through the ranks?

Go up the food chain…. way up to the national level….what percentage of their salaries do they walk away with?

Then on to the fireman…police…..early retirements….young enough to start all over again and end up with another full pension….for how many years?

Throw in the medical coverage….how much?

What can make it right?….what can make it feasible?…. a change in age for qualifying? No double dipping? (Heard that judges are doing just that!)

Somethings gotta give!

Note: To all those I know who are currently retired on pensions from government or public safety pensions….I am happy for you and know you worked long and hard for them, but with the shrinkage in “workers” verses the increases in pensions….just as with social security……

somethings definitely gotta give.
