“WEST PARK – They took the radios, the antennas, the extra fire hose in the back of the room and left the Lake Forest volunteer fire station bare.
On the last day of September, Broward County Fire-Rescue also took three trucks, a brush-fire truck, an air support unit and, finally, the volunteers’ 1,250-gallon-per-minute pumper, the “cherry of the fleet,” as the volunteers fondly remember.
After more than 50 years of service, it’s the end of an era for the Lake Forest Volunteer Fire Department. Fire-Rescue will continue to cover the area for West Park but, for budget reasons, the volunteers will no longer be called on, said Fire-Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles.”
