We have…the Reports….public comments….a few permits…events and parking under consent agenda….to revisit the tabled voting system….and the tabled “equity in Commissioner’s salaries”….FINITO!….WOW!…
Given this head-scratching….situation….this writer decided to take a longer look at the reports….the background material….here we go…..

a. Finance and Budget Monthly Report…September 2008…..Manager Colon….
1st question…why Manager Colon?…We have a Finance Director..Kaola King listed on the Town site….
BCbythesea…when in Town Hall…doing this background search…this writer heard she was in finance dept. on that day…why?….
In the finance report…was the the list of Funds…with the “unencumbered balances” for each….which usually means…uncommitted…and here is what the numbers revealed…

WHAT…$5 MILLION+ DOLLARS…”UNENCUMBERED” IN THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND?….
NOTE:…this writer is no finance afficionado …but that’s what the balance number showed…so why are we repeatedly being told from the dais…”we have no money for Capital Improvements”…”we need to build up our Capital Improvement funds”?….
Why if this is correct did we go ahead and try to make the run-down hotel next door into a public safety center…if we do indeed have these funds after the $2 million dollar purchase….and will return to the beginning Capital Improvement Fund balance listed…$7,046,745…or close to it after the sale of the warehouse…rather than put a referendum to the voters to build a new Town Hall Complex…as Wilton Manors is doing for $7 million….while housing the private corporation new public safety providers in the existing trailer in the meantime…or in some temporary off-site accommodations as BSO had been doing for months?…
When it comes to oversight..of the VFD/AMR…they are private corporations…and the Manager does not want to get involved with the VFD internal problems…because they are separate entities…even though her role as Manager and as sole Oversight Authority…allows and in this writer’s opinion …demands she do so….especially since she felt we “owed” them this new housing…HMMM…
An interesting Public Comments…from the citizen Jerry McIntee…in 2005…
‘Jerome McIntee, 1612 Southeast 21 Street, referenced the proposed resolution in
support of the Volunteers and indicated that the Volunteers were well on their way to
meeting the Town’s requirements. He indicated that the Commission had voiced
concern regarding the loss of $1 million for the construction of a new fire station;
however, he indicated that the Volunteers had, in just two weeks, collected almost
$100,000 for a building fund to construct the new fire station. Mr. McIntee stated that he
had no objections to naming the new fire station after the Anglin family and emphasized
that the cost would be paid without taxpayer dollars’
BCbythesea…some further inquiry is required…of the FUNDS….especially the Capital Improvement Fund…the new McIntee Public Safety Complex…we hear is still in trouble complying with the requirements to make it into a government building…and a independent VFD Oversight Committee…to do what the Manager will not!…
