Retiree’s irritated at book’s depiction….

Leisureville: Adventures in America’s Retirement Utopia…author, Andrew D. Blechman

The 2007 LBTS Hometown Hero’s new hometown ….is the subject of a new book…

using the Villages as the key example of a retirement community….

without community input!

The book asserts that the choice …this bestowed POA hero …made to flee to…(after selling off his condo…and stepping away from his position on the Chamber Board)…. is run by a developer who maintains firm control over the decision making ….

BCbythesea could not make this stuff up!………..

The author highlights the complex political and economic arrangements that went into the Villages…

the limitations on the 65,000 residents civic power….

A so-called approved …. “benign dictatorship”….

but alas…some are not blindly following the hierarchy…

in 2004…a New Yorker ……who moved in… tripled the membership of the Villages Democratic Party Club…

Some say this is a company town…

others accuse the author of delving into unseemly escapades…

describing one… “Mr. Midnight” …a 63 year old bachelor who has far flung encounters with the ladies…

(an un-checked rumor…floated about…. the underbelly of the area…a large contingency of senior-STDs….)

This community was described as a place where people can “self- select…and they choose to remake themselves…”.

“They have the opportunity for a fresh start….”

Everybody now…..A… 1 and A… 2… la la la la…..The Villages……. you know the song!……….
