“THERE’S A LOT GOING ON IN THIS LITTLE TOWN” ..The man said….
“You bet”…. this writer replied…..
A few hours spent at this town event brought forth intrigue from beginning to end…
It was too much…too much fun that is!……A text from a potential candidate…keeping his intentions well under wraps and knowing full well not to tip his hand too soon….. all the while careful not to be seen in conversation with certain people….A faithful longtime reader finally appearing in person…A real pleasant surprise…long overdue…I so enjoyed hearing this reader’s insight and quick wit…with a face to match the barbs (pun intended)….Bumping into so many “groups”….. was like being in a pin ball machine…at every turn…. in every corner…all having the same topic on their minds…ending the political staus quo…and counting down the days..until the next election….Amazing…truly amazing…just what does go on in a 2 mile stretch of coastal land…right in front of our eyes…and craftily below the radar!….
Some were younger than the norm…some were well known with their stance …and it is terrific to report quite a few are new to the “game”…They knew each other well or had come together for the same common cause….our town…It reminded me of something… it popped into this writer’s mind as the evening wore on……Election day 2008 when so many voters took me aside outside Jarvis Hall to say…”I’m voting for your guys”…even though the signs in their yards said otherwise… They explained they feared retaliation if they did not comply with requests to put them there…….all the while knowing retaliation has no place in the voting booth and goes away after the votes are counted ….when those they appeased were now feeling their big loss!… I have seen a steady climb in the numbers of those jumping on the bandwagon ……who are seriously looking to act upon their beliefs…their civic duty and their vision of the future of this town….
With the election still many months away….will they follow through…continue on with their present plans…individually and collectively?…
All I can say with any certainty faithful Readers is this…. From the intrigue I experienced in the span of 2 hours….within the framework of this major town event..after listening to the conviction they each expressed …..Boy- oh- boy…. We should have quite a municipal election here in LBTS in March 2010…..One that should make the history books…
Here’s to more intrigue…in 2009/2010….and a lot going on (behind the scenes ) in this small little town…
