Here’s The Scoop…The Disconnect….Wrong Assumptions…

THE DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE ADMINISTRATION …. THE COMMISSION…AND THE PEOPLE…LEADS TO THE WRONG ASSUMPTIONS

Faithful readers know that this writer has issues with the Town Manager and the way she conducts business…whether it is her hiring and firing…her going forward on items never brought before the dais for a final vote…previous posts…and especially her continued disconnect off and on the dais when answering questions…providing research for the items the commission requires for whatever they put on the agenda….

Who is supposed to do the research…gather the background materials….the staff or the commission?….

Most have responded when asked their opinion…it should be staff…they should have the capability within the costly Granicus program to use key words…producing files…to pull up subject matter…have previous research…minutes…and rulings…to not only save time of going through the whole process over again…but perhaps even stopping the item from going forward…such as the recent doggy beach fiasco….the actual non-votes on the flags…the entryway signage for all entryways…….swimming pool activities at the McIntee Public Safety Complex….and accurate votes on the variances….concerning the real cost for residential and commercial……the back-up on previous attempts for lifeguards…flags on the beach…beach access in the north end of town…the Chamber…the history of previous children activities held over the years in town…cost and participation…before heading down the path once more….

In the exchange on the dais between the Manager and Commissioner Dodd last Thursday night…the Manager seemed to imply…it is up to the commissioners…WHOA….

This is a part-time position…with minimal pay…so her assumption seems to make little sense…or makes this a job for a few that are no longer gainfully employed….retirees only?……

Besides the voting disconnect…the background disconnect…there is the ongoing…painful to watch…. dais disconnect…between the questions asked and answers given…with the most recent example being the Mayor’s call for cutting the ground-keeping duties at the Chamber…only to be told by the Manager that a staff reduction would be the result…either by job elimination or hours cut…..

This solitary response caused the Mayor to back away…only to find a second response after the Mayor’s about face…that the staff member could be reassigned to other town areas…HELLO?….That should have been the first response from the Manager…. this subject should be broached again…it had merit…seemed to offer a viable solution…

The Manager informed the commission that she would be putting on ordinances in the next weeks following up on those passed recently..(again they were done incorrectly according to the minutes and the actual votes….previous post)…which if nothing is done to change the status quo…more ordinances will be passed in doubt….without the accompanying resources to assure their validity…this came up after another exchange about the code workshop date after she asked to combine it with a workshop requested by Commissioner Silverstone on a referendum in January….

This writer was contacted by the Assistant to the Manager John Olinzock the day before the 9/25/08 meeting….regarding the right of way in front of my home……he told me the right of ways need to be dealt with and “if you get what I am telling you” which was the following “suggestion”………have a commissioner bring this up at commissioner comments and ask for a workshop in October or November… which I agreed to do….. and followed up on with a written request to Commissioner Dodd…

The reason…a zero scape right of way is a must for this town…with the “green” direction and water problems that will most likely continue in the future…also John Olinzock wanted to deal with an array of right of way and swale problems….throughout town…

Unfortunately this is the second time John has asked for the commission to bring up something…(the last was with Walter Keller and his change orders)…only to act as the conversation…never took place…HUH?…

At the meeting while talking of the Comcast costs for moving the box….this writer wondered why the Vice Mayor was bringing up the right of way with the box…to which the Manager did inform him one had nothing to do with the other….turns out he was going by the incorrect BTSTimes tidbit that appeared the following day…….claiming that I would not allow the Comcast box on my property costing the town $10 thousand dollars…which he now found out was false ….but the paper was already out for printing…. I surmise…and he most likely would not even attempt to correct the inaccuracy……guess it was a pre- “slap” bcbythesea…on behalf of his gang?….a little sample of what’s to come?…

The Manager went on to talk …incorrectly about not putting anyone in front of others…insinuating Commissioner Dodd was trying to do just that with asking for the right of way workshop….for this writer…WRONG!..

After the meeting I informed the Manager of the call from her assistant for the workshop and the Oct-Nov. date that John asked for……she stepped back and curtly responded “I only work with paper”…”not who said what”…WOW!……

Note to the John Olinzock…put it in writing…your calls do not cut it with your boss……YIKES!…

So what happens now…is up to the players…who takes it upon themselves to iron out the duties of staff…the duties of the elected officials……and again who is in charge….of whom…..

more to come….
