PONY UP BOYS……

At the 1/13/09 Commission meeting…Ordinance 2009-04 was passed 5-0…and was published in the 1/17/09 Sentinel…for 2nd Reading on 1/27/09…to enact…going forth ..

Ordinance 2009-04…AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, FLORIDA AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE II OF THE TOWN CODE BY CREATING A NEW SECTION 2-25 ENTITLED “CAMPAIGN FINANCE RESTRICTIONS” TO CREATE RESTRICTIONS UPON THE MAKING RECEIPT  OF POLITICAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS,;PROVIDING FOR DEFINITIONS ; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR PENALTY; PROVIDING FOR FOR INCLUSION IN CODE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

It’s a “politically correct”…”feel good” kind of ordinance…that looks good on a resume…(Commissioner Silverstone gets the “nod” for this one)….and tries to “stick it” to the Mayor…the Old Guard…the BSO …development lawyers…and unions…but…

As previously posted…”games” will be played…and the “status quo” of finding ways around it will ensue ……and the change to $300 per contributor from the state allowed $500 ( this writer came to the podium to say should not be included in the ordinance)….is a joke!…

‘Lower Campaign Limits Don’t Keep Lobbyists Out’

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Lower campaign limits in Fort Lauderdale city races — $250 per contributor rather than $500 allowed by the state — have done nothing to diminish the influence of lobbyists.

more to come….
