‘LBTS focused on saving town transport
Lauderdale-by-the-Sea gets an annual grant, in its case $59,000, to operate the air-conditioned shuttle bus known as the “Pelican Hopper,” which makes 45-minute trips around town each day.
Steve d’Oliveira, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea’s public information officer, said town officials were told in September that ridership had dipped below the required minimum over the summer and the grant would be removed. Town officials were able to get a six- month extension to try to boost ridership, but the deadline is April 29. After the deadline, the county plans to review the situation.

“We wouldn’t be running around with our heads cut off if we weren’t under the distinct impression we would lose the grant,” d’Oliveira said. “It’s not a critical amount of money to the town, but a lot of seniors use [the bus].”‘

THE “CHUMP CHANGE” CHALLENGE…..

BC- Here’s the problem in this town…”It’s not a critical amount of money to the town,”…..Lately the Town Government workers and our elected officials are sounding a little too “flippant” when they speak about spending the taxpayer’s money….

This remark …”It’s not a critical amount of money to the town,” along with recent remarks on the dais…”13 thousand and change”….”It’s not lavish”….”It’s nominal”…When spending on the Pavilion change orders… ….When spending $56 thousand on drainage problems caused by homeowners…blacktopping up to a residents garage door on Seagrape Drive……..When paying Town Attorney fees for the Vice Mayor’s personal agendas… a lobbyist -newspaper- alleged slander suit…….Greenfest-  a $33 discrepancy….Pier Fishing sign- Eminent domain issue….while racking up the hourly billing…at $190 per….

Listen up…The Taxpayers…you are representing…the Taxpayers you are working for…are watching their incomes…their savings…. their pensions tighten up … diminish… or dry up……..So the amounts you toss around with so little regard……this “Pocket Change”….that “Chump Change”…….Guess what…it matters…the costs…. they are critical!……Get a clue!….

Time for those who represent us to think long and hard about the words they use…. while tossing out  all those dollars… all those Taxpayer dollars!….

more to come…….
