Mystery over body found off Lauderdale-by-the-Sea solved

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA – The Broward Sheriff’s Office today announced it has solved the mystery over who was the man found dead in the ocean this week off Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are releasing the name of the man whose body was found Monday morning floating in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.
On January 12 at approximately 7:15 a.m., a person fishing on the Anglins Fishing Pier in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea spotted the man floating facedown in the calm waters just offshore. After a BSO helicopter pilot confirmed the location of the deceased, who had drifted south of the pier, BSO’s Fire Rescue boat was used to retrieve the unidentified man from the water. The, 46-year-old man, who was later identified as Kenneth Gotlib, of Fort Lauderdale, was then brought ashore to the 4200 block of El Mar Drive shortly before 8 a.m.
BSO homicide detectives said no foul play is suspected. The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release its official ruling of this apparent drowning as early as next week.

Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating an apparent drowning of a man whose body was discovered Monday morning in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.
On January 12 at approximately 7:15 a.m., a person fishing on the Anglins Fishing Pier in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea spotted the man floating facedown in the calm waters just offshore. After a BSO helicopter pilot confirmed the location of the deceased, who had drifted south of the pier, BSO’s Fire Rescue boat was used to retrieve the unidentified man from the water. The adult white male was then brought ashore to the 4200 block of El Mar Drive shortly before 8 a.m.
The body was transported to the Broward Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause and manner of death. BSO detectives said the man was wearing boxer shorts, and there were no obvious signs of trauma to the body.
