5000 RAINBOW COLORED EGGS…TONS OF KIDS OF ALL AGES…..SUNNY SKIES……..
The annual LBTS Easter Egg Hunt …took place at Municipal Park behind Town Hall today…with children of all ages coming from all directions…..to attend…
As they approached the park…they zoned in one thing and one thing only…….. a field of rainbow colored Easter eggs …5000 of them … Little eyes lit up in anticipation of what was inside each one!….
Parents needed to hold them back…as they awaited the 10 am start time…and filling their baskets full….
To keep an eye on their “prize” eggs…a row of 10 VFD members…with Comm. Silverstone in the middle…watching over what awaited them…behind stood the VFD fire ladder truck extending into the sky with a large American flag hanging from it….
Providing the music was VFD Chief Perkins and next to him Event Coordinator & CIC- Chair & BTSTimes Editor & P & Z Vice- Chair Cristie Furth…and Event Chair-Commission Clottey…..
Comm. Silverstone spoke first from his spot at the center of the field….Cristie Furth then took over announcing the the lines for the egg hunt…0-5 years/6-10 years/11 and up…as the candy and toys contained in the eggs in those lanes were age appropriate… followed by Comm. Clottey who introduced the members of the Town Commission…all 5 were in attendance….. She thanked the Cristie Furth and Patty Domin the event coordinators “who put in countless hours”…..Patty Domin then took time to explain the races that would follow…and the kids…they just wanted in…at 10:10 am!
Finally for these youngsters the firemen were asked to remove the tape from the first lane…and the hunt began…Orchestrated pandemonium at its holiday best with thrill upon thrill of each participant actually putting these hunted treasures where they belonged in their very own basket!…This went on and on as each age group was let loose to find their prized eggs and see what was hidden inside them….Smile upon smile came as each one was opened…
The children that had collected their eggs had no time to spare as they held their parent’s hands and made their way through the line to get a hotdog…cupcakes…cake and a drink…They did not even notice the long line or the wait…for all eyes on the Easter Bunny who grandly arrived on the back of the VFD Beach Patrol ATV….
With the field now cleared …the contests and races began…For the girls…and the women…contests for bonnets..the prettiest homemade/store bought and the funniest…For the boys and the men it was pants and hats….Quite an assortment arrived…giving the judges much deserved trepidation…in picking just one winner…this year…
Races were next up…with an old fashioned sack race included in the mix….again done by age group….The older kids were still raring to go…. and could be seen hard at work finishing up their activities at the far side of the field …..and the little ones…the very little ones….wiped out from all the anticipation…the sugar and especially the excitement…started a customary holiday “mass meltdown”…that began about 10:45……A sure sign of the event’s success…and a sure sign the next big “event” was a nap!……
The whole event was over a half hour early said Ms. Furth….as the crowd thinned out…the field was taken down…by VFD/ CIC members and Town staff….and everyone collectively looking up to see the big gray cloud approaching…knew how lucky they were to have beat the pending rain…and to have enjoyed Easter-By- The-Sea 2009!…….
more to come….
