1/13/09 …PUBLIC SAFETY DISCUSSION..
The Vice Mayor decided a while back that questions must be submitted to the VFD in advance so as not to “broadside” them…
Commissioner Dodd sent in his requests…after hearing the failure of the VFD to comply with their Standard Operating Policies and Guidelines…when they hung up on this writer..(.previous scoops/VFD post categories…)
Dear Readers …a quick overview…this writer tried to contact the VFD last week to make 3 Public Records requests…received no answer at the VFD by phone………sent an e-mail …received no response of its receipt….. tried again the following day…left a message for the secretary to call me…..and tried again to contact the VFD secretary to see if the e-mail was received and the information could be picked up on Fri. the 9th…Only to have the VFD secretary become nasty…rude and…. yes…hang up on me…..in violation of their SOP customer service rules….
At this Commission meeting VFD Fire Chief Perkins made statements that were less than truthful in his response of what transpired…he knows it…and the e-mails show it……
Commissioner Dodd asked the Chief if the secretary hung up on a resident …he said “no”……not so…
Chief Perkins asserted that his instructions are to give out any request…no delay…that my request would be available this Friday (1/16/09)…stating there is a 5-7 day turn around and a cost of $2 per request..$6 dollars total as was done before…a decision he said he made today…..
News to me……
The 1st e-mail response said the cost would be $25 dollars for the minutes…the second e-mail response said it would be $25 dollars for all 3 and would take 10 business days….making that Friday …1/23/09….
Compare to the e-mails from the VFD….below…(last to 1st…request)….Let’s see what is coming on Friday….or not….

Cheryl,
I will pick them up when I hear from you on Fri. Jan.23,2009…
I still have concern about your costs.
I previously picked up these items in the fall and the cost was nowhere near this amount.
Today Karen made copies for me at Town Hall…and I paid appox. 14 cents a page…84 pages…at a cost of $12.60.
I would like to know the cost per page and a count of how many pages for all 3.
Barbara Cole, LBTS customer, taxpaying resident.

Ms. Barbara Cole,
Projected cost for all 3 items may be $25, and is expected to be ready for pick-up in approximate 10 business days.
Thank you for your interest in our department.

Cheryl,
I am very upset that you chose to hang up on a customer…in clear violation of the LBTS-VFD-SOP.
If this e-mail had been provided as is required by your VFD-SOP…further attempts to reach you would not have been necessary.
I am told that per State statute a reasonable amount may be charged for copies.
If the charge for all 3 items is $25 dollars, that is acceptable.
If the charge is $25 for the minutes which will already be prepared,to be accepted by the VFD members, that presents a problem and the state would not look kindly on it.
Please inform me which is correct and the correct amount for each item I have requested.
Barbara Cole,customer/resident of LBTS

Barbara,
The monthly business meeting was moved to the 2nd Monday of the month. You may have a copy of the minutes after this Monday coming, January 12th. Cost will be $25, includes labor to prepare minutes.
