Here’s The Scoop…LBTS …#11…12/16/08 Commission Meeting Roundup…

What wasn’t covered…in Scoop..12/16/08 Commission Meeting…#’s 1-10…

The invocation came from resident Pauline McGuinness…asking all to “take a deep breath…relax our minds…open our hearts”…”All humility and contrition”…”Service to the world of humanity”…welcome words…that unfortunately fell on deaf ears…in yet another contentious 2 day regular commission meeting…

2 out 3 Presentations were tabled…due to prior commitments with the presenter of the Finance Award……( 1/27/08)…and out of town recipient…for the 1st Lifesaving Award…(1/13/08)..

The security cameras…were shown…with closeups…jay walkers…and a near- miss…all caught on camera…for all to observe…but as Chief Gooding said…these are just the first…in town…with another 6-8 to come…with even more clarity and capabilities than these…

The Commission did not ask for these to be the ones online…to see from home…on the Town website…

A little shove-back from the Mc-pal…on the dais…after the Chief kept referring to the Vice Mayor for introducing this idea…it was Silverstone who put it on the agenda…and got the ball rolling…”not that it matters”…Yeah…right!…

Town Manager’s report…(cont.)…a million for El Mar…is in the bank…Oriana…made good on the deal…without the final C.O….but leave it to “Larry the Loophole Lawyer”…( a name used to describe the Oriana Atty…by a fellow resident…at negotiations time)…the caveat…(A brilliant self- serving move…if the economic times stayed as they were and the  Oriana group’s other properties did not end up for sale…..)

The agreement calls for the beautification of El Mar Drive…ONLY…IN THE SOUTH END…South of Commercial…leaving the Mc- moteliers  who were so calculated and  quick to dismiss the MPSC input into Overlay problems…with no moolah…at their end of the street….

BCbythesea…watch for the “Oriana de-funct Boardwalk” million to suddenly be re-appropriated…to the north end…of El Mar…Thanks to the Mc-Manager…

The 2nd reading took place and LBTS will now have an additional “layer” of “Dangerous Dog” Ordinance on the books…just in case…at a cost of $1000+.to set up…… a $250 dollar a year permit for those deemed to own one…..and a supply of “required” red tags…

At this time Broward County reports ….there are 14 “dangerous dogs” in the County…none in LBTS…passed 4-1…Minnet dissenting…

The Pavilion has been covered…previous posts…scoops category…showing a 12/1/08 permit application…to join along with the 12/16/08 request for 10 parking spaces…on the project that has been in the works since November….enough said….

It’s a wrap….the flagpole bases …on Commercial will be “wrapped” in an aluminum “banner” with the Town logo…and “Welcome to”…passes 5-0…No commissioner spoke to stop the flags at the other entries…and stop the entry signs…a definite need to stop this all…as we figure out the pavilion …and the “executive changes”…that occurred…

The fire lane was “taken care of”…with the owner…only it was handled badly from start to almost finish…by the administration neglecting to inform the Commissioners…at the beginning of the meeting going through the agenda while tabling…removing and adding other items….just not this one…

Parking…the bags are coming off…in February…with a 3 month “test”…let’s hope it sticks…with resident parking permits…employee parking permits…with employer oversight…and here’s a grand idea…

The  freestanding…historic….Mack Grove sign…on A1A…in the perfect spot…make a “deal” with Wings…and get someone to replace the words…with LBTS- PUBLIC PARKING…and an arrow pointing in…

BCbythesea…still think the entry should be closer to this sign…but at least a large sign…. this will be a start…

ISO popped up again…they are either the “Holy Grail” to the VFD oversight per the Vice Mayor/Comm. Silverstone…or not the right authority per Comm. Dodd….

An update from a faithful reader…with some links to the South Carolina topic discussed…

Charleston FD, South Carolina has just been re-rated by ISO. Below is the link to the breaking news article and also one to the actual ISO Report. I know that it is several hundred miles from where you live. However, I feel that you would be interested in the information.

The lower performance rating will most likely not effect the residential premiums but it is unknown what will be the outcome on the commercial side. From my experience, residential premiums are almost bracketed. For example, there will not be much difference between 1-3,4-6 or 7-9. The big hits are felt if you go from a 3 to a 4 or from a 6 to a 7. Hopefully I explained that in a way that can be easily understood.

Vendors allowed limited campaign contributions …will move forward….(5-0)…and we will have plenty of notorious company with cities enacting this ordinance…including Chicago!…

Still going after Greenfest.. found the Vice Mayor grounded until next meeting….on his further need to “beat a dead horse”…collecting a 5-0 vote for all future funds to go directly to the Town Manager…Feel better now?….

The Town Attorney explained why he could not answer the Commission when they had the Quasi Judicial hearing on the Coral Key…gave the exlalnation…they…the commission… are the “judges”.during this type of proceeding…..and his answer to the question …on the foundation VS “building” permit clarification would have gone to the crux of the hearing…leaving the Town open for action…by the applicant…if he responded……

Being selective in his recounting of what transpired after the hearing…Comm. Silverstone announced that the Attorney for the Buena Vista …replied when he inquired what constitutes a building permit …that she said  it was the building and not the foundation….what he conveniently left out ala his previous dais ethics decision declarations….was that the Attorney said in other municipalities…it was not the foundation….but that she had not looked OUR code…to see what it states….OOPS!…Not so fast there Commissioner….

Paul Novak came again…for direction…and some answers to the MPSC/P&Z questionnaire…(see boards category…12/18/08 for questions)…he got more of the same…”Who’s on first”…with the Commission…and this time the Town Manager and Town Attorney….the result…expect more delay…delay…delay…planned delay…delay…delay…

The round table…McIntee thinks it’s a “Koom Ba Ya” thing…Commissioner Silverstone said he would “try it once”…after all it came from Commissioner Dodd…so you have start with that…never mind that the Town Attorney’s senior partner..took it upon himself to offer some insight to the Commissioner on successfully run Commission meetings held in other towns………

Commissioner Dodd took it from there…did some checking…. and wanted to find a way to consolidate these endless meetings….a promise made by all on the dais prior to the January win….you will recall…

Needing to be dragged to the table…in order to fulfill this promise..to the residents…..the “2 hats”… show again… why in this writer’s opinion…. their days on the dais are numbered!…

Pubic comments/Commissioner Comments…are covered in the local papers…

adjourned….
