Mr. Nonsense says….”Jane Doe is out of order…1 warning…next you’re out…that will stop it….demand discipline…from Jane or John Doe!”….
Listen up you “hoodlums in the Peanut Gallery…you “Bullies”…You Gigglers…the gavel will drop…points of order will be called…a vote will be taken…the deputy will escort you….for it is the audience that is causing the problem…get the hall in order and problem solved!….
Looks like the audience did not buy what “Mr Nonsense” AKA…The Vice Mayor…AKA…Deputy Chief VFD…AKA “Duperman” was selling….OOPS!…
Lets start at the beginning folks….it looks as if this special meeting may have been called illegally…YIKES!…
According to the Town Attorney…after being asked by the Mayor to explain a special meeting Mr. Abbott described the 3 ways to institute 2-18 of the code of ordinances…the Mayor can call for it…the Town Manager can call for it…or 2 Commissioners…HUH?…
This writer knew that Commissioner Clottey called for this meeting…after consulting with the Town Attorney and being told to call the Town Clerk to call the other Commissioners to set it in motion for a quorum…HMMM….
So naturally it was quite strange to hear that Commissioner Silverstone was the second Commissioner calling for the meeting?….
After Commissioner Clottey spoke…Commissioner Silverstone wanted to set the record straight…he did not call for the meeting…he responded to the request for the meeting…
So should this have taken place?….
The Peanut Gallery would probably have said “no” and would have been happy to “bail” right there and then….ARGHHHHH….
Moving forth…Commissioner Clottey began…saying several people had contacted after the last meeing (Thursday 1/23/09…previous post…agenda/meeting category)…she spoke of it being “not a nice meeting” and recalling meetings from the past when she was a member of the audience (peanut gallery) and hearing Commissioner Silverstone call the meeting “better than any reality show”…she spoke of watching Parliament…and the man that threw the shoe at President Bush…and then spoke of how meetings should be run fairly…with the opportunity for the audience to respond…that it is sad…she went on to recount a problem in the audience that evening (Thur…peanut gallery)…and the suggestion that the camera be on the people so those at home could see what was going on…perhaps making those people think twice…about those that constantly talk…laugh…and the need for someone …the police to give warnings…”We can’t continue on the way we are”…She went on “I lost it once”……that the dais members need to ignore it and let the person talk…express their opinion…no ridicule…”It’s not what you say…it’s how you say it”…think about certain rules ….”This is not a ghetto….a community of hoodlums”…(Which produced some laughs from the peanut gallery…as they looked at Mr. Nonsense….Touche’….
Commissioner Silverstone after clearing up his non-role in the pre-meeting planning…spoke external conflicts and influences…saying the Mayor should use the Sheriff to give warning and then toss “them” out (the peanut gallery)…Roberts Rules of order must be used…each member of the dais has a vote…the Mayor controls the meeting…and it is not being controlled the way they should be…..you’re being misinformed …not doing your homework…and reacting to outside influence…seems Commissioner Silverstone could have easily phoned his “bite of the apple” in as it was the same “I don’t prepare my comments” comments we have heard at almost every Commission meeting…UGHHH…
The Mayor tossed it over to Commissioner Dodd…who said he would go after the Vice Mayor (Mr. Nonsense)…BUT…Da Vice Mayor wasn’t havin’ any…”you go first”…insulted by the “hand-off” from Dodd…
After Commissioner Dodd said he had nothing prepared…and seeing the Vice Mayor (Mr. Nonsense ) had some notes and Roberts Rules…the snide (HMMM decorum was the topic…right?)…McIntee insinuated that Comm. Dodd not being prepared was part of the problem (was this the same Vice Mayor that lost it when Comm. Dodd showed up at the 1st pre-meeting some months ago …with notes…saying by being “prepared” he was “trying to make me look bad”…Oh…Mr. Nonsense…short term memory?)…
The Vice Mayor said he had studied Roberts Rules…the went onto to blame it all on the peanut gallery…the Jane and the John Does…the lack of the Mayor using her gavel…listening to points of order…calling for the Mayor to tighten control….and if she did not…remove her gavel…A HA…Mr. Nonsense…wants the Mayor rendered gavel-less…OUCH!…
The Mayor showing how much she has grown in this job ….much to the Mc-Gangs disdain…toned it down…and asked the Town Attorney to explain what it meant …”out of order”…and not “recognizing” the Vice Mayor…
The Town Attorney spoke on the improper conduct …point of order…when you can interrupt…not require a 2nd…that the MAYOR is the presiding person…she can deny or grant …making the final decision …the dais can appeal that decision…with a motion that requires a 2nd …discussion and a vote….
The Mayor went on to ask what if the disruptive behavior aimed at the peanut gallery was taking place from someone at this end of the dais…with a nod to Mr. Nonsense….the Town Attorney replied the dais is not exempt…point of order ..just the same…consistent with the LBTS ordinance!…
Commissioner Dodd took his turn….saying he put together his thoughts…and the Mayor was doing a good job…he did not want to hear a lot of gavel banging …respect on the dais will bring respect of the audience ( peanut gallery)…he spoke of accusing people in the audience…that they should be allowed to speak…
Commissioner Clotty must have stopped listening …after Commissioner Dodd said the Mayor was doing a good job…because she thought …wrongly so…that Commissioner Dodd was saying they had no problems…and was “sweeping it under the rug”…
Mr Nonsense…became Mr Cop…inserting himself…out of order…into the repartee…calling it a “fight”…ignoring the Mayor’s ruling…asking him to refrain..the peanut gallery made a collective…”there you have it” sigh…there-in lies the “problem…Mr. Nonsense”….case closed …(cop-pun intended )…
The Town Attorney probably said the most profound statement this peanut gallery member has heard come from since he was hired…”Not all the problems will be found in Roberts Rules”…
The Mayor had her chance to speak…saying she will brush up on Roberts Rules….correctly (are you listening Commissioner Silverstone)…..about the rules being for the minority…respect…on the dais…in the audience…personal attacks…(Mr Nonsense)…different personalities…confrontational…and non…allowing them to speak…and moving on…vowing to hold a stronger meeting…with business moving forward…
Commissioner Silverstone…went next …to say Roberts rules are for the majority….(not says those in the Know…)
Commissioner Clottey again spoke of a “bully” in the audience….
The Town Attorney said the Deputy in the back could address such challenges…
And…Mr Nonsense..chimed up…1 warning is reasonable…2nd you’re out!…
The Mayor spoke of the parameters…perhaps foreseeing…a flurry of “nonsensical” calls…coming her way tomorrow night…. as Mr. Nonsense…takes aim…at the Peanut gallery……(Watch out Jane…watch out John)….
And the peanut gallery responded… “NONSENSE….he’s the problem”…
Mr. Nonsense …what a nut!…
