THERE ARE PROMISES AND THERE IS REVISIONIST HISTORY….

” Promises Made…Promises Kept ”
BCbythesea….some “promises” were made…some “promises” were kept…some “promises” should not have been kept…some “promises” were NEVER made….
“Within a few short months the 4 CIC-endorsed Commissioners made sweeping changes in town policy and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea was headed in a positive new direction. “
BCbythesea…thanks to the M & Ms & Fs…”scorched earth” tactics….1 CIC – endorsed Commissioner is now an Independent….previous posts….
“* Reinstatement of the Volunteer Fire Dept.”
BCbythesea…yes….this was a promise kept…….. the VFD returned but….
This writer thought as many voters did….it would be a return to the VFD we had before…….small in the number of volunteers……happy to return to their previous “home”….with 2 new Chiefs in charge….
NEVER…. was it promised that the VFD would be put on a Referendum….courtesy of McIntee….YIKES!
“* Returning our municipal elections back to March instead of November”
BCbythesea….yes ….this was a promise kept….this writer was a strong proponent of the March elections….until the CIC proved it did not matter what time of year it was for a fair election….this along with most municipalities moving away from March elections…it was not necessary to keep this promise…
“* Reinstating the CIC-sponsored term limits ammendment”
BCbythesea…. yes…. this was a promise kept…at the risk of causing further consternation from former friends and acquaintances….and even some that remain my friends today….I am seriously reconsidering my term limits stance…….
After seeing the state of the Town over the last 6 + months….the lack of paying attention to our LBTS history…the previous LBTS plans….. the insults and ignoring those who have this valuable knowledge…for a small group set on a “payback” agenda….
“* Repeal of the marina, hospitality, and beach village overlay districts (no more Orianas)”
BCbythesea….Yes this was a promise kept….but….this was a promise that definitely should have been carried out differently!
Members of the dais and many including this writer….who backed the repeal….were not aware at the time that the repeal reverted back to 3 stories…not 3 over 1..
This “knee-jerk” reaction……was done too soon…in this writer’s opinion ……instead….there should have been a moratorium on the Overlay Districts to “tweak” and re-define the language…in the existing Overlay Ordinances…
The full repeal….along with CIC Executive Board M & Ms & Fs….interference with the Town Boards…have left the Town with 6 + months of being in limbo…
Some believe this was the “plan” of the M & Ms & Fs…especially the Fs who do not want 3 over 1….preferring to retain it at 3 stories……
“* Opening Commission meeting public comments to all who wish to speak”
BCbythesea….yes …this was a promise kept….the meetings were opened to all that wish to speak…but…those same speakers are no longer allowed to address the commission by name…..per Vice Mayor McIntee…..
“* New EMS contract with AMR saving citizens millions of tax dollars per year”
BCbythesea….yes…. this was a promise kept….but…..”millions” is a stretch…on what was actually saved….
the comparisons in services were equal per the Town Manager….missing was the much touted Auto-Pulse…on each vehicle…which we were promised by AMR would be on each truck…or a similar apparatus…when they take over in Oct….
What we were not informed of…the required accommodations for housing AMR…VS BSO….which turned out to be the McIntee Public Safety Complex…..OUCH!
“* Instituting a life-saving VFD beach patrol”
BCbythesea….NEVER…. was this a promise from the CIC or the campaign….OOPS!…
A definite plus for the town……..but should ATVs be used as street vehicles by the Vice Mayor…transporting youngsters that “train” with the VFD ….and to get to the El Mar sites…on Mon. and Thur. evenings?….HMMM……..
“* Allowing citizens to speak on first and second readings of town ordinances”
BCbythesea….NEVER….was this a promise made….This was a great addition by the new commission…..but NEVER a CIC or campaign promise….OOPS!
“* Two very successful Town Commission sponsored community events:
Easter-by-the-Sea and July 4th Beach Blast
BCbythesea…..NEVER….was this a promise made……..These 2 events were headed by CIC members…and endorsed…( at the time)…. commissioners….but as LBTS annual events…they were NEVER promises made by the CIC or the campaign…. DOUBLE OOPS!
“* A 10% decrease in LBTS taxes this year”
BCbythesea…….NEVER…was this a promise made…. a change of public safety…..Palm Club sewers…….were promised….but a 10%…decrease in taxes…was NEVER promised by the CIC or the campaign….COME ON!….
“* Purchased contiguous property for upgraded public safety complex”
BCbythesea….YIKES!…NEVER….NEVER…..NEVER….was the McIntee Public Safety Complex….a promise…it was a shock…with the purchase….the revealed required accommodations for AMR….and the remodeling ……it just may be a big part of the predicted defeat of the CIC endorsed candidates at the next election….previous posts…
“* Paid down Town debt by $3 million.”
BCbythesea….yes ….this was a promise kept….for not going ahead with Palm Club sewers….but….instead of paying down the debt….we purchased the McIntee Public Safety Complex…YIKES!….
Seems many of these CIC….M & Ms & Fs…”Promises”….are just more “revisionist history”….SAD!…
