AN OPEN LETTER TO THE COMMISSION
Dear Commissioners…of the New Majority,
For quite a few years this writer along with other voters in LBTS listened as you spoke from on the dais as newly elected minority members…at the podium as private citizens…becoming candidates in 2007……and as members all….of the CIC about the lack of accountability we as a town were witnessing from our commission and administration at that time…. You individually and collectively informed us of “done deals”…and acts being “swept under the rug”….How the BSO and the unnecessary $100 thousand dollar Fire Liaison were avoiding your questions……remaining unacceptably mute on providing public information…….We heard of administrators being selective in their duties… mysterious … and suspect actions causing the need for many investigations…all in all…making it imperative to make a change in the majority …. this being the one and only way to see an end to such bad behavior from local government….
Well… here we sit…. we have a New Majority, and you have been in your esteemed positions just short of one full year …..
Yet… we now scratch our heads and wonder aloud what the hell happened?…..
We still have a never ending onslaught of questionable…unacceptable …..behavior from our local government with no end in sight…
That is unless you each start to speak up, address what is happening……go on the record for what is right and just…your critics…and your supporters…be damned…
Do something…for the residents…the businesses…the voters…take a stand…
Remember what you fought for as citizens and candidates…(can’t include the “newly-elected” in 2006…who have become the purveyors of such bad acts)….what you could not stomach then…you should not tolerate now…
Oh, I know we can make a change again in March 2010, a new dais made up of a different majority…that could very well be made up of those citizens at present……who become candidates next January…because of what they cannot comprehend coming from their local government today….but is this really what you want?…
The ball is in your court New Majority in this new year….starting tomorrow….
Wed. 1/21/09….ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION…6 pm….. Jarvis Hall…
In what was promised to the voters…by the candidates and incumbents…almost 1 year after the election and 1 failed disaster of an attempt previously held on the podium…the Commission will try again to meet…despite the half- hearted response from Comm. Silverstone to try it once….and the Vice Mayor’s crass remarks about it being a “kumbaya” get-together…destined to fail…by comparing it to the “Old Guard’s” pre-commission meetings on the dais…
What will be accomplished …depends on the attitudes the Commissioners sit down with…and the ability to listen to each member’s contribution …along with the desire to speak out on topics of pressing concerns….
Laying odds ….if it isn’t a “love fest”….or avoidance of the “elephant in the room”……two members will decline any further such discussions…leaving the remaining three to carry on… and carry on they can….with three…and carry on they must!….

This is a time to finish and perhaps clarify the code revisions…going on to heights…capital improvement…and the Referendum for a Charter Change about being a public safety provider/elected official…incorrectly printed …as put on by Comm. Silverstone…it was Comm. Dodd…who put it on Nov. 25th…
All “hot button” topics….. to see who speaks up…on the podium this time…the codes still not in order…the heights ….Capital Improvements…with the recent pavilion change of plans…still unanswered…and the 1/12/09 election of the Vice Mayor as LBTS-VFD Deputy Chief…going against the VFD Constitution…SOPs that prohibits for such dual-office held…(2nd time he has done this…previous scoop/VFD posts)…and ignoring the Deputy Chief Constitution…saying the Deputy Chief must follow the SOPs….

The marathon continues….yet another 2-day commission meeting…that starts with…Commissioner Comments….BUT…
In this writer’s opinion….needs to begin with the ordinances…and a re-visit to the late night turnaround with residential parking places….
Included in this meeting…old business…new business…(previous post…LBTS agenda/meetings category…1/13/09)….and the addition of dealing with the McIntee and Athena sidewalk cafe incident…
