Wilton Manors seems to be able to do what LBTS can not…
They are finalizing a 23,000 square foot building that will house the city clerk and city manager’s office, finance and utilities, human resources, community services and police department officials…for $7 million…
The new building is funded largely due to a $6 million bond issue approved by voters in 2006…
The project should take a year and a half to complete….
BCbythesea…we had anywhere from $4- $6 million in a fund for building….between money earmarked for this purpose and the sale of the west side warehouse…
Add to that the decision not to do the Jarvis Hall enclosure… the boardwalks….the underground wiring on Imperial and Codrington….the bloated emergency fund…and the demise of the Palm Club sewers….
Once again this writer opines….why did we not discuss this further and ask the voters about building a new complex rather than an old hotel?
Now that we own the hotel and are in the throes of remodeling…the question must still be addressed…through the commission and the proper committees and boards …putting forth a possible referendum going out to the residents to decide on a Town Hall Complex…a bond…and a required vote of the people for any future purchases of property for over a million dollars….for any purpose….including parking…
more to come…
