THE DAIS / ADMINISTRATION TAKES A NOSE DIVE….
First up…This writer…previously posted in post on Decorum and Hurricane Preparedness Workshops……
Bob Fleishman-Spoke about the lawsuits “being levied against the town”…About the Plaintiff’s representation by “one of the top firms in Ft. Lauderdale”…saying it is “a nightmare we don’t need” …”will without question cost this town to represent itself”…He spoke of “two of our commissioners” [Mcintee/Silverstone] who “sit up there calmly as they did for the past two years to poo-po it.”…He went on to talk of decorum saying he had the “opportunity to review the Nov. 10,2006 meeting”…He relayed what he saw saying most of the noise and flailing and encouragement to rile up the audience came from one commissioner [McIntee] …saying it was just about “bringing his job back.”…[VFD]…Next he discussed the last meeting (5/26/09) saying it was not “nearly as disorderly”…and spoke on the antics of the Vice Mayor..(not using his name)…He spoke of the Mayor’s attempts to calm him down despite the VM who “mocked her instead of apologizing”…He spoke of the VM’s comments on the hyperbaric incident and reminded all that VM McInttee was out of town when it occurred…He spoke on the VM’s actions …”He re-invents, corrects, criticizes when he did not witness events”…and went further to give another “example” with the “sermon” of what transpired outside Jarvis Hall (5/26/09..previous post)…again informing all McIntee was not there but made “another twisted, tainted grievance report third hand.”…He ended with saying if you are “not under his [VM] wing and think his way you fall prey to his toxic mouth with the dais as his forum and the television as his portal to convey distorted untruths.”…
Sal Calignio (sp.?)- ” A few weeks ago I came about the garbage (previous post) Came up here with information given by the Assistant Town Manager that was not true. That’s why I spoke the way I did. Now the condos have received the billing,. My condo has received from the city the pricing, the price sheet came in and then the next day Choice ( new trash collector) came in with a different price sheet. My condo again e-mailed the city and they came back with another pricing which is ridiculous.Today, I put all these papers in everybody’s box. But after I did that I spoke to Choice on the phone for a good hour. They corrected everything. It seems that the city staff gives out the wrong information and gets everybody all stirred up. What I say now for the city to do is make a list of the rules and regulations of the right correct pricing and what we’re getting and give all the residents this. Not everybody is watching this on T.V. to know. So we have a job ahead of us. My people were up in arms, they thought they were getting a 109% increase. Quite a few of the other condos are feeling the same way. Why does the city constantly send out the wrong information? This time I have it in writing. The first time the gentleman [ Assist. TM Olinzock] spoke to me on the phone and it was all wrong. And I don’t think this is proper. You get us all stirred up by giving us smoke and mirrors. Please correct this manner.”…
Vito Chiarello- Came to inform the residents, the dais and the administration that he purchased two Beach Parking Permits at $20 each…He thought they were annual permits…but after affixing them to his cars found they were only good until September..three and a half months!…(no comment or direction was given at this meeting on the dais concerning the information presented)…
BC- CRISTIE FURTH ALERT…DO AS I SAY…NOT AS I HAVE DONE….(in the hall…in her paper…and at the CIC meetings/board meetings as Chair last year! all previously posted…)…
Cristie Furth..” During public comments at the last commission meeting I spoke about the request for Athena’s restaurant to have a two day event over the 4th of July weekend” She said her “main concern” was “it was not a good idea to allow competing events with the Town’s sponsored [CIC/VFD] Beach Blast July 4th celebration”…”In the agenda it stated an event permit from 8 am until 11 pm on July 5th”…
BC- Mrs. Furth knows very well that an event permit contains hours if not days(s) before for set-up and take down of the equipment…just as her “gang’s” CIC/VFD July 4th Beach Blast contained set-up the day before…OOPS!…
CF-She was most disingenuous in making the following comment…”I wonder if this was a mistake on the application or a mistake on the agenda?’…”In any event my comments generated a heated retaliation against my husband outside in the parking lot.”
BC- no police report has been filed…Mrs. Furth as previously posted entered the hall as this “he said-he said” was ongoing…calmly and rather than going to the BSO Deputy near the back door…strolled over and spoke to BSO Chief Scott Gooding who made a phone call…HMMM…
CF-” This type of behavior is not shocking to me but the bigger point what transpired out there seems to be simply an exaggerated carry over of what’s allowed to transpire in this assembly hall.”
BC- Where to begin…How about the fact that Mrs Furth herself is standing at the podium and not sitting on the dais?…She is well aware of where the “bad behavior” is coming from having fallen “victim” to it herself (sausage series)…She should also take a good look at her own actions during the campaign towards candidates as well as neighbors who complained of her actions when they chose to put the opposition’s signs in their yards…(The BSO were contacted)…Mrs. Furth should take a look at the video and minutes from past commission / special Town meetings where she led the way for rancor the hall..and last years purported videos of CIC meetings (tar and feathering of Comm. Dodd) and CIC Board meetings (John Thompson)…along with e-mails and accusations it is said to undermine businesses in the town…
CF- She went on to speak of the Mayor’s role…and complain of the Mayor not doing her job by “controlling the audience”…and incredibly asserting the Mayor was acting with bias to some “friends”…”not showing impartiality”…
BC- HMMM… $20 annual Beach Parking permits with unlimited time…Marc Furth parking pass…streets paved…certain alleyways open and only one shut down…etc…etc…etc…
CF- She was on a roll with speaking about “audience disruptions” ….”continuous loud talking and cat calling” (no “hissing” was mentioned)…”respect” and “aggressive behaviors”…She spoke of Roberts Rules and Parliamentary procedure”…
BC- Interesting because Mrs, Furth introduced Roberts Rules last year at a CIC Board meeting it is said…stating she was just learning about it…OOPS!…Or maybe Mrs. Furth is unhappy that Jarvis Hall is pretty empty these days devoid of CIC members and supporters?….
CF- “Mayor I admit I’m putting these problems on ah, at these meetings on your shoulders but that is because you are the presiding officer. As citizens we must trust that impartiality will be demonstrated in your rulings. Fairness in your interactions with your fellow commissioners and respectful behavior required from all members of this assembly. Efforts to exert order inside this hall will go a long way to promote better treatment of one another when we step outside these doors.”…
BC- Perhaps another sunrise sit down on the beach is in order to come back to reality and replenish Mrs. Furth’s short and long- term memory?…Just trying to be “helpful”…placing these “epiphanies” on Mrs. Furth’s shoulders…
Ray Wallowitz-” It’s amazing that Mrs. Furth just told everybody”..( The Mayor asked him to refrain from using names)…”It’s amazing that the previous speaker just repeated everything the Town Attorney just told us a few minutes ago.” He went on to speak of watching the previous commission meeting and said he believed we have a “Chief of the fire department that is capable of making a presentation”…( he was speaking of the VFD 5/26/09 presentation…prev. post) …He wanted to know why “members ..(McIntee) of the dais should be making that presentation?’….
Louis Marchelos…” The alleyway study …(prev. post) was presented to the town on May 26th when the person [Town Engineer Shaun Bamforth] came up to answer the commissions questions. One of the members [McIntee] of the dais asked him these questions. They were, did your office get any calls from anyone regarding alleyways? Dis you get any direction from anyone in town? And a bunch of leading questions. The person [Mr. Bamforth] said no,no, no. After the Town Manager answered no to all these questions. Commissioner Dodd questioned the alleyway study. The person that did the study said there was no headcount done in the alley. He stated the town gave him direction to give recommendations on a vehicular study not a pedestrian study he stated he was making. He stated he was directed to do a study on making the alleys one way. During his comments after Commissioner Dodd spoke to him, he stated many times he misspoke at the beginning of his presentation. He stated that he did not know the dimensions of the pier alley . He said he provided some direction to the town to have a traffic study and a pedestrian study. He stated he viewed the commission meeting at his home regarding the pier alleyway. This town spent $2500 on this report and it was approved 3-2 (Comm. Dodd/Mayor dissenting) by this dais. This report said the pier alley is 15 feet wide and is a highly pedestrian access to the beach. These are false and erroneous statements and we paid $2500 for it and approved it. The truth is the pier alley is a 32 foot alley with a 22 foot roadway in comparison other alleys in town are 15 feet wide. The pier alley is not the major pedestrian access to the beach (previous post with pics) The only person [McIntee] that believes this is a member of the dais. You must question the source of the information. The Town Engineer never did a pedestrian study. How can he make this report. I ask who directed him? Who persuaded him to report these false findings? The only person who said also with no traffic study that the pier alley was the main pedestrian access is sitting on the dais. Interesting that this unsupported conclusion was reached by the same man [McIntee] that tried to establish the engineer’s credibility. Do they protest too much/ Could this report have been done without some town input? Who instructed him to look at any prior commissioner meetings which only concern the opening of an alley. Curious that his recommendations mirror those of one commissioner [McIntee].The agenda continues. Unite for fairness. Voice your opinions. Let the volunteers know your feelings. Invite them to join us in purging this fungus [McIntee] fro this town”…
Spiro Marchelos- Said he was the owner of Athena By The Sea and Anglin’s Fishing Pier…He went on to speak of “two particular incidents that occurred last week oj June 3rd and 4th. ” He said two concerned citizens brought to his attention the VFD going to one of his buildings for a bees nest…He said he arrived at his building and observed a VFD crew and “Jim and Jerry” one in gear and one in street clothes…(prev. post and pic…Jim Silverstone was in street clothes)…He said “the VFD blasted one of the buildings with firefighting foam.” He said they “tried to kill a small bees nest”…and then spoke about the proper way to deal with bees and that is to not provoke them…He said his “main concern ” was the “ignorance” in “using a toxic foam” thus “infiltrating the water system”…adding what a waste if was to the taxpayers and the VFD themselves to deploy them two times to use great amounts of foam over two days…He also said that at a beach call …VFD Chief Perkins told him “the bees are back”…Code enforcement contacted hi with the same information and he contacted an exterminator who took care of this problem for $200…(no cost has been forthcoming on the cost fo the VFD and the foam replaced in a purchase and pickup by the Dep. Chief in the soon to be replaced VFD command car…prev.post) …He went on to speak about 4th of July…” I believe government should not compete against business. Government should be fair and equal and to serve justice. Government cannot discriminate against people of ethnic backgrounds like a dais member [Comm. Clottey]…(prev. post)…did last time about Gyros not Jyros, called Gyros. Special event permit wine and food festival July 4th was denied. Shame on this dais for denying a privilege of having a celebration of 4th of July.”…
Edmund Malkoon- Came forward to thank the Town Manager and the town for the quick response and the quick action for consolidating the bus stops just north of Commercial on A1A…he was pleased and surprised…He also gave an update on the Bel Air annual meeting saying they had almost double the amount of people as they normally have and many are volunteering to be on the board…
Ileana Pomeretta (sp?)-came to speak on restaurants in town using styrofoam instead of paper products …put on this agenda ( new business item 16 e. by Comm. Clottey)…She spoke of all the environmental and health problems she believes are associated with it…and although the commission was most likely going to send the businesses a letter requesting they change it…she did not feel that went far enough…
BC-This is one woman in town who really has a different perspective of late…she had her street paved after presenting a petition…much to the ire of neighboring street owners and other town residents…She asked for the Public comments to be moved and taken in order of signing up…and got it…(She said it was due to her being unable to attend the meetings late..although she managed to do just that at this meeting)…She was allowed when others have been prohibited of coming to the podium after commission discussion on the item to speak on it again…(Rules are EITHER at public comments or when the item is discussed…not both)…The Gang of 3 only hope there are more like her around to make up for the masses that have walked away!…
Gail Albohn- came once again to implore all to volunteer for 4th of July…she said they are very “gratified with the amount of volunteers we have received”…(VFD) She went on to say “However this event will bigger and we need many more volunteers.( Therein lies the problem…why bigger?) ..She said people could contact her or Moe McIntee (also THE problem say many who will forgo the volunteering)…that the information will be in the “Lauderdale By The Sea Times and the Town paper” HUH?…she ended with” You will see many, many people from many, many walks of life” and that there will be a volunteer meeting July 1st in Jarvis Hall (the 2nd official posted meeting) and they will “get even more organized than it is now.”…( organized with one meeting….prev. post )…OOPS!…
Joyce Murray- ” She started out offering congratulations to the Chamber of commerce , businesses in town and the residents who support the soldiers and their spouses in bringing them to LBTS…(prev. post)…She again asked for an apology from the commissioner [McIntee} for using the dais as ” a public forum to make unsubstantiated accusations about her and her fellow residents at the Royal Coast Condo ( prev. post)…She spoke about elected officials who have used their positions “to undermine town employees, residents and the business community with oppressive ordinances”…She spoke of the Commission being able to “hurl accusations about residents of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, but the electorate isn’t allowed to mention any of their names publicly”…She asked “When did Lauderdale-By-The-Sea become a totalitarian police state?” …She asked about our rights…freedom of speech…Did the commissioners understand the Constitution of the U.S.?…She said some commissioners “had their heads buried in the sand” when it came to Bert Harris lawsuits…She was sure some commissioners “aren’t up to the task of running the business of the Town”…saying it is apparent at commission meetings where some “ether do not read or understand the materials provided by town staff”…..Materials she said are vital to be informed about in order to make decisions…”that effect the operation and governess of our beautiful little seaside village”…She finished up with the commission being in office long enough to know proper protocol…
Diane Boutin- decided to speak up after hearing some of the previous speakers ( HMMM…Cristie Furth) saying that she had attended these meeting for 12 years almost continuously and then said ” I am pleased and honored to extend to the Mayor my most sincere kudos for actually running and chairing these meetings well since its inception. Since there has been so much adversity and difficulty, I do not think your efforts have been recognized and I personally applaud you. So thank you for that.”…She spoke of the decorum ordinance and said she was one of the first people to ask former Mgr. Baldwin for it…to deal with cell phones…She added the “short- term memory”(or long-term) of many who have forgotten the “unruliness, lack of manners” that were present before this administration…and again thanked the Mayor for her “efforts, patience and courtesy on the dais”…
Frank Herrman- spoke of moving money a new business item about funds being moved put on the agenda by Comm. Dodd…the citizens advisory board …being against it since it was not a “campaign platform” mentioned…looking ot add levity…while following the CIC pary line…shrinking as it is…
Yann Brandt- said he had a couple of topics he wanted to address…He spoke of the first budget workshop and being “disappointed you asked for no public input at it.”..He had a couple of questions and wanted to know the “method” the commission wanted to use for input though Town staff, e-mail or phone…He said residents and taxpayers want to be involved….He countered Comm. Silverstone on his [Comm. Silverstone] assertions at a previous meeting that budget and financial information was all available online…negating the need for a Budget Review Board…Yann said it is not …He said what is on there is the past annual reports and the current backup of the monthly financial report (which is taken off when a new agenda comes to replace it 2 weeks later)…He said he purchased the prior monthly finance reports “for the cost of 2 parking passes”… He added ” A little talk about big government and that’s what we’re starting to see here is government impinging on looking at what the residents are doing and how we’re gonna do this, do that. I think government should look a little bit more into how we’re going to keep this town pleasant and run it well as opposed to creating new law and new ordinances every time something isn’t going the way we’d like it to be. We don’t really want legislators to rule our lives. We want to come home, get the services that we want and then we want you to do the one thing you have to do and that’s pass a sensible budget, and be fiscally responsible about it.”…He spoke last about the lawsuits saying many residents were in the dark…and he would like to have some information from the Town Atty. to apprise the taxpayers what is happening…what to expect and the fiscal impact….
BC- Yann was of course asking for information that would not in any way impede or harm the case…such as public information contained in legal filings…and he stated as much by asking for it from the Town’s representation rather than “opinions” from local newspapers…blogs…or as we are told a Commissioner at a CIC meeting!…That being said this “blog” will post available filings as previously posted…
Peanuts Wick…called Yann to task for asking for information…speaking of the commission having the “closed session” and that it would not be correct for the Town Atty. to comment…HMMM. Was he at the CIC meeting where it is said Comm. Silverstone did speak about the case…as he did from the dais at Comm. Comments 2 weeks prior (prev. post.)?…He went on to speak of the points of division being from the time when individuals did “voice votes” and could be asked to stand up to place the vote …( we now have machine voting …per Comm. Dodd so this point of order should not be used by the VM)…He spoke of points of information using Comm. Dodd and the temperature in the hall as an example (temp. in Jarvis…a “green” 64 degrees!)…He said a point of information is for “you to require information not to jump up and say I have a point of information and give the information”…(another point the VM can scratch?)…He went on to pick up where Frank Herrman left off…that he is against the Citizen’s Advisory Board (the Mayor’s item New Bus. 16 b….surprise, surprise)…and pushed for neighbors getting together and going to condos…(Guess he has memory problems also when it comes to condos…they did not want to hold meetings)..OOPS!…He ended with speaking of the previous nights Broward Transit meeting (prev. post)…and said his goodbyes for the summer as he heads up north…(Not volunteering on the 4th?)
Beverly Kennedy- came to speak about the aftermath of her previous time at the podium to complain about a neighbor’s dilapidated ” For Sale” sign…and how it was allowed according to the town codes……No remedy for the sign…but she met the fate so many of us (this writer’s fence…prev.post) have with a code violation coming to the complainant!…Hers was a business tax receipt violation…with the town saying she needed a license for a home business…Mrs. Kennedy holding the citation said the town is misinformed!…
Phyllis Meyer – Ms. Meyer attended the Broward Transit Seminar and came to ask the commission to save the Pelican Hopper…saying it was viable…and residents would pay a fare to keep it…she did add levity where other speakers fell short by saying her topic “was not quite as exciting as other comments”…
BC- Welcome to Jarvis Hall and public comments Phyllis…please come back!….
more to come…
