MAKING THEIR VIEWS KNOWN….

Public Comments…

Ira Weiner came to speak against short term, frequent rentals in a residential environment…He said we live in a “charming seaside oasis”…we should preserve this feeling,…that problems that come from it are like a trailer park when it gets out of hand…bottom line  he said while we live in a free society governed by civility and respect from neighbors …asking the commission to adopt a significant  ordinance with significant sanction so it can be controlled and regulated to  maintain and preserve this oasis…

Edmund Malkoon had a couple of quick comments concerning the bus stop on A1A just north on Commercial Blvd. and how it causes a backup into the intersection when using that stop. that is dangerous for pedestrians…..He asked the Town to look into eliminating that stop due to another stop at El Prado…He also invited all to attend the Bel Air Resident Civic Assoc. annual meeting June 4th at 7 pm at Assumption Hall…they will be electing a new board…

Bob Fleishman said if this were a comedy he would find himself “greatly amused” , but he did not consider “the Town material for deceptive amusement”…He spoke of the Bert J. Harris suits that had been served upon the Town and pointed out that 2 commissioners on the dais said from the dais and as candidates for election it would never happen…He also pointed out the Vice Mayor’s ( no name used) assertions of calling the By- The- Sea- Future’s editorials” lies and scare tactics”…saying the paper told the truth…He spoke of the cost to the Town to fight these suits in attorney fees…He spoke of the Palm Club and how they were invited (by the VM) to attend a meeting under “false pretenses” ( to get stimulus funding)…He said the verbal agreement for sewers with the Palm Club would cost less than the litigation of the suit…and he spoke of Comm. Silverstone’s ( no name used) lack of knowledge of with the budget and financial profit and loss sheets …while calling him out for his dais behavior of chuckling and laughing as he tries to explain…He also spoke of the previous commission, that they were responsible for all the beautiful changes in Town, and said “we need to remove the bully” (VM )….

Crisite Furth said she had a number of items speaking of the banners saying she did have a chance to see the designs…(she was a submitter that was chosen along with Ms. Domin)…She spoke of her suggestions on the choices…and the uses…”intermingling them”…”Too much of any good thing can be too much”…She was against the Athena 2-day event saying she “agreed with Comm. Clottey about 2-day events that they are too long…it was too much stress on everybody in the neighborhood for 2 days.” She said  “What’s especially a little uncomfortable about this permit is that the first day is over the 4th of July when the Town is having  their own event.”…She spoke of the parade …the party until 4 pm and the fireworks ending at 9 pm” She said “I definitely don’t agree that um, any downtown business should have a competing event with the Town sponsored event on the same day.”…She was against Comm. Dodd (no surprise) wanting an Aug. meeting saying she looked forward to Aug, …a time to put aside politics…. the commissioners could  plan vacations..it is the height of hurricane season…and t the staff needed time to prepare for the budget….

Vito Chiarello said “Oh boy here we go again with shades sessions and lawsuits” …He spoke f how we got here of the negotiations made at the time of annexation that “were made by fair and honorable men” “I believe once you shake on anything and make a promise it should be kept at all costs, because that handshake has your name on it”…He also brought up the Terra Mar bridge project and questioned an inspection that was to be done in March…

Charles Leachman said he would make it brief he thought the beach parking was to be addressed …the time limit, but saw it would be on June 9th…He then spoke of the red light cameras and thought some time should be spent investigating them before rushing into anything. He did not think they were for safety, but for” picking the pockets of the people”…

Gail Albohn Co-Chair of the VFD/CIC July 4th event came with her note cards to talk it up and ask for volunteers to pitch in and contact herself or Moe McIntee…

Beverly Kennedy spoke of common sense and the dilapidated signage that was on a property in her area…that it was an eyesore although allowed by our standards and that allowance should be checked out….

Moe McIntee came to speak of the Bert J. Harris suits…height limits…the last vote…the South Beach attorney ( Ms. Delegal) and how she helped “draft a bill that the Florida Legislature eventually passed as special law 99-465 saying the intracoastal beach area following annexation would keep their 15 story height limit on construction until further amended by ordinance of the Town”…She spoke of the $75,000 used by the Town to go against the CIC height referendum…The poorly worded referendum which she said left many voting the opposite of how they meant to vote …(voting for 15 stories not 44 feet as she said they were intending to support)…. How the previous commission’s referendum gave all the power to the commission while the CIC’s  referendum on height limits gave the power to the citizens…She denounce what Bob Fleishman ( no name used) asserted in his comments concerning  her husband (VM) and his Broom Boy pal…when they ran in 2006…She reiterated the 2005-16 ordinance ….and ended her disjointed comments by saying “I have a lot of things I could say but no need, thank you”…

Paul Novak said he had 3 short items…speaking as the Pres. of the Chamber about the new banners and saying they were a good thing to do, but questioning the cost…He spoke about the 4th of July and concern over private fireworks being shot off on the beach…the danger of it…and as Chair of the MPSC saying they had run out of jobs to do and needed new direction from the commission…

Ronal Rupp came back again to speak of his situation with a lien on his property…the lack of proper contact by mail…the ongoing cost and asked the dais to “throw me a bone or something.”….(Good timing as it was on the agenda this evening, but was unfortunately dismissed by the majority siding with Town staff over the Town Special Magistrate who is also the Pompano Beach Town Atty.!)…

Frank Herrman did his shtick on petitions and a vote of confidence for the Town Manager…

more to come……..
