Here’s The Scoop…#4…2/3/09…Commission Round Table…Jiminy Cricket…

COMMISSIONER SILVERSTONE…FOR OVERSIGHT?….JIMINY CRICKET!….

‘The name of the conscientious little cricket was derived from the phrase “Jiminy Crickets!” which denotes surprise or bewilderment, and has existed since at least 1848. It was first used by Disney in the film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” where the dwarfs exclaim the phrase upon returning from the mine.’

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Gee… gosh and golly, I see a double standard…as Comm. Silverstone took on a simply pathetic tact to address Comm. Dodd for Comm. Dodd doing his due diligence and not “sweeping” the pavilion and other Administrative bad acts under the “proverbial rug”….

This VFD -Mc-BFF-“2-Hats” wearing sidekick Commissioner actually said…that Comm. Dodd might be unable to do his job!…Yep, the “led by the nose”…”in his pocket”…”joined at the hip” …”Broom Boy”…said that because Comm. Dodd was relentless at getting answers from the Town Manager, perhaps he, Comm. Dodd needed a “facilitator” to help him with his “problems” in order to help the Town move forward!…

The same VFD member that stood idly by as former Battalion Chief  Patrick Pointu wrote a shocking letter concerning the major problems with the VFD and the Vice Mayor…The same guy who stood by “mute” as Lt. Scot Fowler presented his “problems” with the Vice Mayor and the beach patrol program….The same man who professes the concern for how the “operation” of the Town Administration is supposed to work…but went along and voted in the Vice Mayor once more for VFD-Deputy Chief…knowing it was against his own  VFD-Bylaws…

So excuse me if the following …quite laughable monologue…just looks utterly ridiculous…woefully inept and curiously orchestrated by the guy that calls the shots….and we all know who that is…wink, wink….

From the meeting….Commissioner Silverstone’s …first words at the meeting…(sadly so)….

Comm. Silverstone- ” I know you had a list here of twelve , I think items. I’m not sure Commissioner Dodd UM my issue is the AH Commission meeting your comments that you have problems that you listed and I have 24 separate issues that you listed there during that meeting and I made a comment that we’re only as strong as our weakest link and if you’re not able to do your job for whatever reason UM we’re gonna have to fix that, Um..(a nervous snickering BFF laugh with his “pal” to his left) …I don’t know what better way to say it because, I could go through these, they’re pretty substantial, there’s issues here that are pretty severe,. If it’s not working then it’s up to us to fix this. It’s not good for the Town, we can’t go through this now. So the suggestion I’m making is we have a facilitator or somebody from outside that’s not connected with anybody who kind of does this thing sit down and kinda works it out with us or something like that probabbly in that direction, UM because if you can’t do your work, if you’re not comfortable, whatever the issue is we’re not strong.”

BC- That’s called Oversight…good for the Town…not good for the VFD?…HMMMM…Comm. Dodd can’t do his work?… AH…NO…seems Comm. Dodd is doing more than “his” work and therein lies…(pun intended)… the “Broom Boys” “problem” with Comm. Dodd…Because Comm. Dodd…is “rocking the boat”…and not buckling under the “Bully and his Cricket”…frustrated that they can’t throw him out…like they can with other “thorns in their sides”…at the VFD…thus we have the real crux of the matter…the “real issue”…bothering Jiminy and his co-hort….

Comm. Silverstone- ” I think something we need to explore in the future getting a facilitator here and sitting down and working these things out because it’s obviously not working. But I would kinda like to get this issue out of the way before we hit another set of issues. Unless, it depends how you feel Commissioner Dodd, my only concern is to be whatever, I can do to help. I think the rest are here under the same assumption that we have to be strong here and if one of us, I don’t care who it is is having those problems then we should do our best to try and work it out, that’s my concern.”

BC- Nice try…. to “clean it up” a little at the end…but the initial “pounce” to question Commissioner Dodd’s ability to be a Commissioner…coming from you Commissioner Silverstone…as your BFF says…”I just don’t understand it!”…a guy who proudly says he comes to the meetings with an open mind, no planned comments,( telling from the repeats)… no homework done…..

Comm. Silverstone misquoted the “weakest link” line…..in his time at the mike…

correct quote….

'A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.'

This writer prefers this one…

'Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character,
 give him power.'
(In this writer's opinion the "2-Hats" fail miserably...a quote you can take to the bank...
or the election booth!)

By the way… did you know…you are still the VFD Fire Chief, old bio…or something else we residents should know?……

Town Website….

Commissioner Jim Silverstone was raised in Chicago and moved to South Florida at the age of 20. His mother, sister and brother continue to live in the city, which he visits often.

Commissioner Silverstone’s dream was to open his own business in a field that helps others and the financial area was where he landed. He has been designing Pension and Profit Sharing Plans for more than 20 years. For the past two years he has had his own office in Town on Commercial Boulevard.

Commissioner Silverstone lived in Fort Lauderdale for about 10 years and worked in the resort business as an auditor and manager. He fell in love with Lauderdale-By-The-Sea’s balance; her small town charm, a vibrant tourist business and easy access to the surrounding cities.

Commissioner Silverstone first became involved with the Town as head basketball coach for the Optimist Club’s Youth Team, where he also serves as President.  From there he was asked to join the Volunteer Fire Department. He did so reluctantly, but decided it was a great way for him to give back to the community and to build up his personal skills. He became vice president of the organization, then the chief financial officer, served as president of the VFD and is currently the VFD’s Fire Chief.  Commissioner Silverstone also served as chairman of the firefighter’s pension board.

Commissioner Silverstone was also selected to serve on the Town’s Charter Review Board as vice chair and is proud of its accomplishments.  He feels it has been a natural progression to Town Commissioner and is looking forward to positive changes. His hobbies include skin diving and scuba diving, road biking, basketball and chess.

(The Charter Review Board?…Really?…..)
