Here’s The Scoop … The Lauderdale-By-The-Sea CIC “Lemmings” Trying To Hold On To Being Politically Relevant … 2007 Sewer Agreement With Pompano Beach Blindly Passed With No Discussion/No Backup …

WITH AN EYE ON THE 2012 MUNICIPAL ELECTION …

OLD HABITS DIE HARD WHEN IT COMES TO THE OLD WORN- OUT CIC POLITICAL PLAYBOOK ….

Dear Readers …several non-members who are still included to keep the CICs membership numbers inflated sent this writer this e-mail calling their “lemmings” to come to public comments tonight and speak out on the increase in the LBTS annual residential parking permit… As it reads…board member Bob Roberts and Chair Liliana Pomareda along with the rest of the usual suspects on the CIC board are trying desperately to hang onto some sort of relevancy as a PAC after their landslide loss and the undeniable bad news that comes forth in the aftermath of their gal-pal, former Town Manager Esther Colon’s removal… The parking permit increase as posted last week was discussed…It is $20-$30 increase to $40-$50 .. depending on whether the buyer is a senior or not… At the meetings to discuss this it was revealed that approx. 120+ residents partake in this program which is optional…Of course the funniest part of this was to see that the CIC PAC increased their membership due 100% ..from $10 to $20 …and $50 for a Charter member!… If the CIC members show their “lemming” side tonight..I would ask of the Commissioners to see just how many CIC members bought the permits last year…and what is the number sold thus far this year…

Subject: LBTS Comm Meeting Tuesday night

Hi CIC Member

Just a reminder that the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Commission meeting is Tuesday night November 9th. At the last CIC meeting Liliana urged all CIC members to attend the November meeting and sign up to speak at Public Comments. A good topic to speak on would be to complain about the 250% increase in resident Parking Permits; e.g., from $20 to $50 + $3 Sales Tax. It’s hard to understand why they think they can soak the residents to this extent!

Hope to see you there.

The CIC Board

……………….

THE CIRCUS WAS IN TOWN ….WITH THE LBTS-POMPANO BEACH SEWER AGREEMENTS …

We are also hearing there has been plenty of misstatements made over Sea Ranch Club and Sea Ranch North Condos and the sewer rates that were covered up by prev. TMs Baldwin and Colon and a chosen few behind the scenes that kept mum on not following through with the special meeting direction given to go to Pompano Beach and get them included in the LBTS Master sewer plan followed up by going to get a declaratory judgment if Pompano did not comply… (prev.posts) …Sea Ranch Club/SRNorth did not ask for anything special and were not aware of any wrongdoing …operating under the assumption most residents were …that their elected officials/TMs and TAtty. actually did follow the direction given once the annexation was approved …

Now we also know that former TM Colon /Asst. TM Olinzock and the 2007 Commission passed the amended Nov. 13, 2007 Master Sewer Agreement as Consent Agenda item H on Nov. 13, 2007 with no discussion… We are told the Commission may have received no backup on the agreement a Colon M.O. as we saw was her practice with other important agenda items costing big buck$…her 2007 contract /Beach Pavilion/Rachlin audit renewal/ etc…etc…etc…. (prev. posts) …It was known by the Administration that included in the agreement but not seen by those Comms. who blindly voted it through along with other Consent Agenda items … that in 2008 there would be a big rate increase and again in 2011!… It was also included in the agreement but not revealed to either to the Comm. as a whole…(but I cannot fathom that former Mayor Parker was in the dark…after all he is on the record stating he was aware of Colon’s 2007 contract and he must have known about the SRC/SRN sewer subsidy and his direction¬† from that special mtg. when he was on the dais not going ahead)… that the new agreement did not include the annexed- in areas!… The 2008 Commission was not given any update on a rate increase…None were found in the archived online Town backup under agenda items or the TM Report…which were never provided in writing in the backup as they are at present by TM Hoffmann….

Readers will remember that in every Colon Budget Book…The one’s she held so near and dear and her CIC led supporters gave her kudos for when receiving the bogus “Budget Presentation Awards” each year (for the “presentation” not the content”)… including her last budget book in 2009/2010 ..Ms. Colon and staff included the following… on page 30 under Propriety Funds…Sewer Fund…

“Any increase passed on to the Town by the City of Pompano Beach is passed on to the consumer to eliminate General Fund subsidy. Sewer fees have remained the same since fiscal year 2003-2004.”…

“There is no rate change for fiscal year 2009/2010. The Town expects to collect $1,222,958 in revenue during fiscal year 2009/2010, which is $13,937 less than the fiscal year 2008/2009 amended budget.”…

BC- Hmmm…we now know that these claims were false..¬† now that we see what was left in the laps of the new Administration/Commission as well as the consumers …OUCH!…

What needs to be decided now is how we deal with the direction given over a decade ago …to right the inequity of the sewer rates as was asked for by SRC/SRN upon annexing in…to afford them the same rates the Caribe/Fountainhead received as south end condominiums under the master Sewer Agreement that was in place… The north side of town did not ask for any sewer rate changes when annexing in and the agreement from that particular agreement with Pompano Beach ends with making it clear they cannot be a part of the Town’s Master Sewer Agreement…How that was allowed is again mind-boggling and what can be done to change it going forward is not known… For this Commission the question to be answered ( most likely at the next Roundtable)…is to approve a scheduled rate increase over 3 years or make the decision to bite the bullet and do the first increase all at once with more increases to come in the future …..as the budget books state … “passed onto the consumer to eliminate General Fund subsidy.”…

WATER PIPES SOLD AND PAID FOR…LITERALLY …IN 2008 …

One more issue that has impacted us all ….and that the CIC should have really lobbed onto rather than the residential parking permits ……The sale of the water pipes to Fort Lauderdale in 2008 for a paltry $350,000…We are now the recipients of a 25% surcharge from Ft. Lauderdale for water since last summer…that surely covers the repairs of the pipes and more that former TM Colon stated we could not afford to repair ourselves!…The CIC may be purposely avoiding this issue because it was touted and pushed for by their gal-pal Colon! ….OOPS!…

I cannot help but smile broadly in full campaign- mode as the CIC board actually thinks the issue that will get them back in power in 2012 is a raise in the annual LBTS residential parking permit…Again, their CIC Comm.Clottey agreed with the increase along with the rest of the Commission and is on the record in tonight’s minutes up for approval stating she “was surprised with how the cost of a parking permit was in comparison to other cities”…. Will she remain their choice to run for a 2nd term in 2012?…Gosh we hope so!…

more to come….
