Here’s The Scoop … Scene And Heard Around Town ….

BSO BRINGING OUT THE BOMB SQUAD IN LBTS – 7/5/10 …

We heard today that the LBTS-BSO was notified that mortars had been found by swimmers in the ocean and they brought them ashore… Turned out to be commercial grade fireworks that did not detonate last night…most likely from a boat…The thought is they were tossed overboard to sink and to be of no harm once waterlogged…WRONG!… They are still dangerous and those swimmers are lucky they were not harmed…These were not tar ball folks!…. By The Sea Future Editor Mark Brown also got the heads up and went to observe the BSO Bomb Squad detonate them…but due to the severe rain….the robot removed them to be detonated elsewhere…

THE FEEDBACK …..

The word thus far……This post- March municipal election event had the most participants and the biggest crowds watching that many can remember in LBTS! ….Quite a difference from last years pre-March municipal election (prev. posts) that had to have the fewest of both that many could remember ….

All eyes and ears were on the events…as well as on the rains with lightning headed their way… Here in Chicago we heard about the lightning striking a boater in Lighthouse Point…as well as many communities canceling their afternoon events and not knowing if their fireworks would be a go or not…LBTS was lucky until 1:30 pm with the afternoon picnic- rides/slides (prev. posts)…and again on the fireworks from the Pier…(prev. post)…

The few complaints came from the normal snafus found in years past …the VFD was late on the food being ready….(you’d think they would have that down pat by now)…and the fireworks had some lag time between the big shoots… We heard that in the prior 2 years…whether it was the pier or on the beach… The only way to get around it…cough up the big buck$…Want em’ next year non-stop…let your Comms. know ASAP before the  June 13th Tues. night 6 pm Budget Meeting prior to the Reg. 7 pm Comm. Meeting so they can have it lined up to put out the RFP like Ft. Laud. and Pompano Beach did in January ….not in April or May…

So who is the LBTS Hibiscus Portal Volunteer Lifeguard Brigade?… Are they an asset or a liability?…

Now that’s thinking ahead…. The BSO putting the “horses before the cart!”…. (The Town’s “cart” that is!)….

We heard  the Turtle people were much happier this year with no fireworks being shot off on the beach…and we hear local and tourist beachgoers were happy once again to be able to park at El Prado and go directly to the beach instead of being sopped by orange fencing (used for the Furth-entrusted Coral Reef buoy this year on Town property?-prev. post) …and faced with walking to Washingtonia or Commercial for entry…But the happiest group by far ….next to those 65% of the voters in the March municipal election who proudly watched their new Commissioners drive by ….were the LBTS-VFD …We hear they did not miss the yelling and the screaming they received last year from their forme Dep. Chief  Mcintee…now departed from LBTS!…(prev. posts)…

One funny moment to add…here in Chicago this writer took 11 week old Lilly to see her 1st July 4th parade….and I had a little deja vu  of my own…when low and behold…Lady Liberty came walking down the parade route…walking next to Lincoln…. Same costume..sans the green makeup …as Mrs. Moe McIntee …(prev. post-BTSFuture last edition)…and yes, I did more than a double take…I laughed out loud…at what a difference a year makes!….

Kudos to Mayor Minnet, the LBTS Chamber of Commerce…LBTS Town Businesses and Restaurants  ….VFD…. BSO …Anglin’s Pier ….Town Administration /Staff …Town Commission and citizen volunteers …You came together to pull July 4, 2010 together in a limited amount of time and successfully provided enjoyment and cherished memories for all those who came for the holiday weekend in LBTS!…

more to come…..
