Here’s The Scoop …. Scene And Heard Around Town …

POLITICAL LEFTOVERS ….

Dear Readers … Looks like some Furth-CIC dirty political “leftovers” are still stinking up the Town… Come on people…don’t let the losing faction cast a pall over the  loud and clear mandate they were given just a few short days ago…

We hear there are some Caribe residents who are still falsely spreading the rumor of a casino going in the Holiday Inn…This writer heard it just days before  the election. On election day it came from a loud and obnoxious CIC member as she came to vote and work the front CIC tent in the south end of town. She made her allegations as she yelled at the opposition volunteers and we hear made them to voters as well…She also made a pointed remark to a supporter of her opposition about where the woman was from after hearing her accent..Hmmm. Why no Couriel/Pomareda calls of a slur for that incident?… I have now heard the ridiculous claims are still being made after the election is over…We heard the new owner of the Holiday Inn is the owner of the Little Inn ..which has many scratching their heads…BUT… NO casino can replace the hotel without the state/county and the LBTS commission and Town…and that is not going to happen!…Not with this new majority!…

Word is many are afraid the new commission will vote for former Mayor Oliver Parker as Town Attorney…again…It is not going to happen! … All three candidates ran together on the Town Manager’s contract and the fact that outgoing Commissioner Jim “He’s still not a nice guy” Silverstone  and Vice Mayor Jerry “Quack, Quack”  McIntee either lied or did not know that Esther Colon had a very different contract than her predecessor Bob Baldwin  …It was a no term…1 year severance when terminated…with 2 pensions contract…that will cost the taxpayer plenty…Commissioners Clark and Yanni are on record saying they did not know until it was revealed on this site that it was not the same as Baldwin’s as the Manager had often claimed (prev. posts)…BUT… former Mayor Oliver Parker is on the record with Editor Mark Brown stating he did know…and at first wanted a 6 month severance…but stated he knew the other commissioner wanted Colon and he went along with the 1 year she wanted (more on this to come in future posts)…  Therefore, there is no way this new majority on the dais would ever consider former Mayor Oliver Parker… It would be going back on what they ran on….and knowing these 3 and Commissioner Dodd…No way..No how!… BUT…Parker may have his new “galpal” Comm. “Clueless” Clottey on his side ….after all she is on record saying she would nominate and vote for him for the  Hillsboro Inlet !…OOPS!… Same rules apply for former Attorney James Cherof and his firm…as they were privy to her contract being different than was stated on the dais May 22, 2008….What about the Town Photographer…. many are asking…It was a position created by the outgoing majority 2 years ago..and it provided Marc Furth a townwide parking permit etc…..The Town Photog serves at the pleasure of the commission… Marc Furth wore so many “hats” himself as Owner/Editor of the By The Sea Times..with its nasty, dirty election time article, New Flashes…and purposefully placed bad photos of a sitting Mayor and 2 new candidates…as well as being the Campaign Manager for the Silverstone/Evans/Couriel campaign…There can be no doubt his services are no longer required… Let others step up ….and tell Furth to hand over the parking pass and the keys!…. Time for him to take a “dive”…

Is the Town Manager trying to collect her big payout ASAP?… We hear she is up to some shenanigans…(more on this to come)… Certain businesses have been “targeted” still with inspectors…and warnings…(all was went off without a hitch!)… We hear certain ( not who you may think) store owners were hit with code violations the night of the election …and cars were ticketed including an undercover police car?…OUCH!…

The Craft Fair that almost wasn’t…We hear that today at 3 pm Commissioner Dodd had to call and get things moving along as the company putting on the event with the Chamber was stalled for hours as they waited for the permits for the weekend event!… The Commissioner made a call to the Town Manager/Asst. Town Manager and hightailed it over there to get this mess back on track…By the time he arrived it was “magically” resolved according to the message form the Asst. TM!… The Chamber just has to make it to Monday….and all of this will be just a 2 year nightmare!…

We are hearing the losers are still saying heights will go up…. This writer says to that…move on!…You all know the mantra by now…The heights cannot be changed without a vote of the people…What about the the zoning?…The density can be DECREASED without a vote of the people …the set backs can be INCREASED without a vote of the people ….according to a learned friend…How can the Furth-CIC faction be against that?… Green…Green…Green…isn’t that was former mayoral candidate Couriel said on the campaign trail…”less black…more green!”…YIKES!….

Old habits die hard as the CIC are so sure that the pendulum has swung back to the “Old Guard” and all will see that the newly elected are just “front men” for the past…Give me a break!… The newly elected are still as stated before on this site…. fine upstanding men with families who chose to step forward for change!… Change means the pendulum moves forward not back!…Easter…July 4th…Halloween and Christmas will all be taken care of with new ideas…new people in charge of the events…and new people participating with those who want to volunteer from both factions and enjoyed doing so in the past… Ditto for the boards …. as the candidates have said on the campaign trail…and as they made their election night speeches….Just watch…and see for yourselves…The 65% knew what they were voting for!…

Friday is always a busy day at the Senior Center and today it might have been more so…We hear that Commissioner Dodd paid a visit…(and Mayor Minnet was in as well after the election on Tuesday)…. Editor Mark Brown stopped by and we are told they joined many, many others since Tuesday…including longtime participants and the Yoga teacher to assure the Director…he is now safe ..and he will be treated as he should be for the incredible job he does…and should no longer worry about any retaliation …payback or unwarranted misleading statements made on and off the dais by Commissioners who are devoid of having the real facts!… NICE!…

The Pompano Pelican came out today…the first local paper after the election…( Turns out LBTS pays attention to this paper and their endorsements!)….on the front page was “Minnet, Sasser, Vincent take seats in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea”… by Judy Vik… It had quotes from the newly elected along with the big numbers ….”Minnet defeated Joseph Couriel with 1,329 votes to his 703. In District 1 race, Scot Sasser was the winner with 1,319 votes, defeating Marjorie Evans who had 705 votes. In District 2, Christopher Vincent ousted incumbent Jim Silverstone 1,304 to 721.”… It went on with some quotes from the winners…Roseann Minnet “I’m so proud to represent you and so proud you want me to represent you again. I’m so excited about where we’re going together. We’re a team. We will take this community to such levels.”… Scot Sasser “Your overwhelming support has humbled me to my very core.”… “Now is the time to put the past behind us and look forward to a bright future. We must put our differences aside and reach some commmon ground.”… “We must plan our future and turn swords into plowshares. We have taken back out town. Let’s go forward together.”… Chris Vincent ” I will listen and respect everyone who comes through the doors of Jarvis Hall. I will bring decorum and respect to the Mayor, I will not bring personal agendas to the dais. You will be heard and you will be respected.”…

Commissioner Dodd ” This is absolutely fantastic. I’m so happy for Lauderdale-By-The-Sea that intelligent voters could see the right way and elect three wonderful individuals with honesty and integrity. We can agree to disagree with respect and get the business of the town done correctly with a commission-manager form of government in that order.”…TOUCHE’…

And then there was this statement by “Trounced” outgoing Commissioner Jim Silverstone… “I hope they keep their campaign promise, as I did mine. If they do, it will work out.” He credited the opposition with being very organized. “They did it. They had almost double the absentee ballots from 2008. They did a heck of a job.”…

BC- At least he got most of it right…I beg to differ on his”promises”…and so did 65% of the voters!… As for being organized…YEP!… The Minnet/Sasser/Vincent committee were always much more than one step ahead of the Furth-led Silverstone/Evans/Couriel committee …with not only organization…but magnificent teamwork…dedication…smarts…great candidates…decency and a positive…fair …factual campaign from day 1 all the way through to when the results were read aloud!… Absentee ballots were almost double and they were a large win…BUT…the Minnet/Sasser/Vincent “slate” would have won without them!…

Readers, voters, taxpayers, residents, businesses…should know what they saw in the campaign they will see on the dais over the next 2 years…So, if you are see any of those political “leftovers”…over the weekend…”Walk the walk”…AWAY…… FAST!….

And enjoy….
