LBTS CRIME DETERRENT UNIT …14 ARRESTS …
Dear Readers … As promised the Lt. Angelo Cedeno responded with the Complaint Affidavit/ Arrest Form this writer requested a few days ago from BSO Chief Llerena (prev. post) after hearing he, Sgt. Doug Brown and Dep. Melbourne along with a vacationing Sgt. worked together and were able to arrest a suspect who was thought to be involved in condo robberies in town…
The following description was included in the paperwork provided….
“On 05/04/10 at approximately 1100 hours, Sgt. Dough Brown and I were working an active burglary operation of the beach region of Lauderdale-By-The Sea. This was due to recent burglaries suffered to area condos in recent weeks. As of 04/25/10, approximately 9 crimes to include an occupied burglary, numerous vehicle burglaries and thefts had been occurring on the beach corridor. A description of a suspect had been provided as a result of the occupied burglary. Law enforcement was seeking a black male, approximately 510, stocky build 200 lbs, short afro and wearing shorts and a tank top.
We were on the beach in a two passenger ATV north from the 4600 block of El Mar Drive. In doing so I received a telephone call from Sgt. Ron De’Angelo who informed me that he was vacationing in the area and questioned me if we were seeking someone.
Sgt. Ron DeAngelo further stated that the black male who was northbound on the shoreline had crouched down and concealed himself prior to us passing by as to avoid detection of law enforcement. Sgt. Ron DeAngelo stated upon us passing he made his way west on the beach into the condos. I informed Sgt. Ron DeAngelo that we were actively seeking a black male suspect potentially responsible for area burglaries/thefts. Sgt.Brown and I responded back to the area in search to identify and investigate further. as to his actions.
While conducting a search for the suspect contact was made with witness xxxx xxxxx who approached us and stated he had witnessed a suspicious black male roaming through the condos and indicated that he was one and the same suspect frequenting the area for the past week or so.
At approximately 1122 hours, a suspicious person call was received by via BSO dispatch indicating a black male on the beach at marker number 15 who was trespassing through area condos.
I immediately advised dispatch that we were in the area and seeking the suspect in which the complaint was made. Deputy Melbourne further arrived and was picked up at marker number 17 at which time we made contact with the suspect who was walking back south from the area.
Suspect S. was advised of his Miranda warnings by Deputy Melbourne and investigation conducted on his behalf as to his identity and recent actions. Suspect S. could not dispel our alarm for his being in the area and advised that he just got into town. Witness information indicates that the suspect had been frequenting the area for the past week and a half. Witness XX XXX further stated that moments earlier, the suspect jumped an area condo fence after being instructed to depart the premises.
Suspect S. was transported to 5450 N. Ocean for further debriefing via ATV. Deputy Melbourne conducted his investigation and charged the defendant accordingly.”
Another portion of the report included the arrest report with the suspects name …address…and what was found on the suspect…
Looks like the condos residents will be sleeping a little better after this arrest…
