Here’s The Scoop … Cracks And Cubs …

NO SIDEWALK REPAIR PROGRAM IN CHICAGO?….

Dear Readers … In the background there is still much going on….a look at the world of Town Managers and how other municipalities as well as ours have dealt with and are preparing this go-round to deal with new hires during a time when they are facing new budgets as well and especially while they are each facing a more engaged and informed constituency now that most towns/cities have their own local bloggers…This writer is nursing a sprain of sorts after encountering a cracked sidewalk yesterday on a 3 mile walk to Wrigley Field…so needless to say as usual the cracked sidewalk won…

Speaking of sidewalks…a look at the 2009-10 Budget Book from the former Town Manager included the following on pg VIII in her letter to the Mayor/Commissioners under “Strategic Planning Process”….

“Town Sidewalk Inspections- this is the third year the Town has begun a comprehensive program to repair and maintain Town owned sidewalks  and right of ways throughout the community. In conjunction with the City of Fort Lauderdale, the Town contracts with the Florida Youth Conservation Corps for necessary improvements. Funds have been allocated in the budget to begin major sidewalk and maintenance repair and maintenance. Since the project has been well received by residents and business owners, we expect to recommend to the Town Commission the continuance of this project in FY 09/10, subject to funding.”…

pg. IX ” Town Drainage Maintenance  and Improvements- this is the second year the Town continues to repair and maintains the Towns drainage system. This program began as a result of  eliminating the storm water fees creating a need of the Towns Municipal Services department to begin a comprehensive program to clean and maintain french and storm drains throughout the community. Since the project has been well received by residents and business owners, we expect to recommend to the Town Commission the continuance of this project in FY 09/10, subject to funding.”

“Town Street Inspections- this is the second year the Town has begun a repair and maintenance program for Town streets. The program allows street to be inspected, milled if necessary and repaved.Since the project has been well received by residents and business owners, we expect to recommend to the Town Commission the continuance of this project in FY 09/10, subject to funding.”

The proposed sidewalk maintenance and repair budget 09/10 was $40,000 in 08/09 the YTD (5/31) was $18,500 (budget was $40,000)

The proposed drainage maintenance and repair budget for 09/10 $130,000
stormwater outfall maint.  ($80,000 rehab./maint. & $30,000 drainage projects)  in 08/09 YTD (5/31) was $34,131. (budget was $82,000)

The proposed Townwide Paving maintenance repair budget 09/10 was $25,000 in 08/09 YTD (5/31) was $21,528. (budget was $28,000)

BC- the question this writer asks is two-fold…Who are all the residents/businesses who received these programs so well?… AND.. Why was a good portion still unused at this same time last year when we know even more was needed in maintenance/repairs and funds?…Hmmm…

It will be quite an eye-opener to see what comes in the letter from the Interim Town Manager in our 10/11 Budget Book …

In the meantime…any resident/ business needing repair use the documents link to get a Citizen’s Contact Form to request maintenance /repairs with the monies still available … http://www.lauderdalebythesea-fl.gov/town/docs.htm

UPDATES… Lesson learned…turns out the heads-up on a big deal going on at Benihana on Sat. was not on the books that way…while it looked like a “big deal” ……”Hollywood style”…according to the BSO it was not … Note to those that keep me informed…please don’t hesitate…I will check it out … but any “big deal” always has multiple questioners who see the same situations and also want the answers…

Town Board Meetings…as far as we are aware at this point the MPSC will meet tomorrow night at 6:30 pm …The BOA/P&Z…still awaiting clarification…as previously posted the Jarvis Hall calendar stated Wed. May 19th 11am/6:30 pm …on the Town Meetings calendar May 18th…but one new P &Z member e-mailed on Sunday his welcome letter said the first meeting is June 16th!… Will update again when we know…

ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE… Another P&Z new member was informed by Town staff no P &Z this month …we assume BOA is the same…Thanks for the follow-up!…

By not only the cracked sidewalk won yesterday…my little sprain…and being chilled to the bone…was worth watching a win again Pittsburgh!…
