DUELING JULY 4TH AWARDS

The POA…Property Owners Association….

have sent out their annual “Hometown Hero” ballot…previous post…

The nominees…. not required to be a POA member…

1. Dave Gadsby… Village Grille/Village Pump/ LBTS Chamber Board member…

the person responsible for…Friday Jazz on the Square/ Christmas By The Sea

donates food/ beverages to almost every service organization and charitable cause in town…

BCbythesea…He has this writer’s vote…

2. Vincent Ragusa…Originator of the now the now defunct Performing Arts…in Jarvis Hall…the now defunct Star Gazing at the beach…was an elder at the Community Church…a board member of Sister Cities..member of Kiwanis/ POA….

3. Miguel San Miguel….active member of Lions Club/ a Citizens on Patrol volunteer since 1995…and treasurer of the LBTS Volunteer Fire Fighters Pension Plan…for 20 years/POA member…March 25 was recently named for him…

BCbythesea…BCbythesea 2nd choice…

The CIC…Citizen’s Initiative Committee…

have sent out their first annual “Citizen of the Year” ballot… must be a CIC member…..

previous post…

They had 6 nominees…

1. Adrienne and Bob Roberts…They are longtime members of the CIC…Bob is a board member…their “resident computer whiz”….they host the letter stuffing gatherings…for mailings….are world travelers…and have owned property here since the 50’s…

2. Rosa Michailuk…. a member of the CIC…”the tomato lady”…comes to the podium to address the commission often….bringing them her veggies…and her opinions…she is a long time volunteer on the Haunted House and other CIC events….living in LBTS for 20 years…

3. Bob Karley… a charter member of the CIC…was born in LBTS…an active participant in local affairs….his father was a VFD founding member….and a past “Hometown Hero”…….

4. Eva and John MacMillan…recent CIC members…although attended CIC for some time…..3 submissions were made….so 3 were put in the letter …giving the nominees 3x the space for an unfair advantage?…..that is for the voting CIC members to decide…they are the owners and publishers of the BTSTimes…and are lauded for their role in changing the majority on the dais…with the last 2 elections…and the return of the VFD…..John MacMillan was a past president of the Chamber….they have a business in town…but are residents of Pompano Beach…which is allowed under the rules of the award…

NOTE:….not allowed … for consideration…. a member of the CIC … who is not a resident…but could not “qualify” under the new rules…because he does not “own” a business in town….HMMMM…

5. Doris Collins….resident since 1977….a regular attendee of the commission meetings…and always there to help with CIC elections…events….projects….she has come to the microphone and telephoned her commissioners long before any of the others on the list….including taking it upon herself to deal with Assumption Church…over election bias she saw……at 93 and legally blind….she is still going strong ….for her community and the CIC……

BCbythesea…If I was still a CIC member….Doris would be my choice….. a distinct honor and special recognition for a long time member…who exemplifies this years rules….what a thrill this would be for her…….

6. Marilyn and Tom Carr… long time community involved couple…with that involvement and leadership….in many organizations in town….CIC…POA…Garden Club….Board of Adjustment…Master Plan Steering Committee…VFD….events…VFD/Fireman’s Ball…and the “go to” couple for decorating …inside and out…in LBTS….

BCbythesea…2nd choice….but I think they could wait until next year….and still be winners….when hopefully the rules will include all ………

BCbythesea….the return ballots curiously go back to the homes of the Chair’s of each organization….last year there were questions on the real count…for the POA…when Bob Terrien was the winner….

Those front and center with those accusations are now following suit…with ballots…again without inside envelopes…which will undoubtedly lead to similar questioning if the outcome appears skewed….

more to come……
