The meeting was called to pass by-laws …get citizens involved…elect officials…and get their ducks in a row to comply with the needed criteria required to be designated ( the next required phase…) by a target date of September 2008.

(Note: the group has already passed the eligibility phase….)

9 cities along the coast are to participate…monthly meetings will take place at each… along with committee meetings in downtown Fort Lauderdale…open to all…

LBTS was the first town to host a meeting and aiming at being the first community designated…according to assistant to the Town Manager John Olinzock…appointed secretary to the group.

What needs to happen ASAP…

letters from civic groups and citizens attesting to…. having the desire of being a designated Florida Scenic Highway Corridor recipient……

the result from the designation…

grant money!….. allocated for beautification of the roadways….for landscaping …..signage and such!

Touted by all in the room as a win- win situation…with no downside to be found…….

Represented in the room this evening…government reps…. D.O. T…..Broward Transportation……. ..commissioners…LBTS Clottey and Dodd along with Mayor Minnet… a commissioner from a neighboring community…

Towns included…Tamarac, Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Meyers, LBTS, Hillboro Beach, Pompano Beach, Fort Pierce, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Wilton Manors, Sunrise, West Plantation…

Newspaper reporters…from the Futures, Pompano Pelican, Sun-Sentinel… and website….BCbythesea.com…

In an hour meeting……a video was presented……. required positions filled…… goals were addressed…

suggestions were forthcoming…

offered assistance both from government reps and volunteer citizens…

Civic organization information was shared…along with offers from the Mayor that legislators will be informed when she and fellow commissioners attend next week’s Broward Days in Tallahassee…

photo ops and interviews took place… at the close….

a survey was offered … along with printed material…and a Metropolitan Transportation T-shirt received by attendees after filling it out…

looks very promising….
