Commission Meeting

Even later………. Just some highlights…more in the daytime ….

Invocation was done this evening by George Hunsaker….spoke of respect in the treatment of each other, true deliberation coming from the commission…..and what a wonderful place we live in.

Employee of the month…last time done monthly…Stacy…Parking Enforcement…Town Manager Colon called her “No nonsense employee of the month!”

Wings Dedication Report…. still not satisfied with why Wings would give this valuable property to the town while getting …in my opinion… the short end of the stick….how is it a good deal to turn over 17 parking spaces right next to your business for 10 parking passes….somewhere in town? The owner was questioned…and his response left me puzzled still! Passes 5- 0…. Town Development Director and Wings owner said Wings would be finished in 6- 8 months.

Oriana Permit progress….Town Development Director….said that c o’s are done on town homes…not on condos…drywall being finished and c o’s usually come right afterwards. Questions were asked about the the sidewalks and lighting by Commissioner Dodd… Frank will need to check with engineer from Oriana for answer.

Vice Mayor McIntee inquired about the beach access on the north end…Town Manager said it will revert back from present “road” to beach access when c o is complete. The Vice Mayor also inquired about any summons issued in the last 2 months, again, Town Development Director needs to check yet again.

Commissioner Clottey wanted to make sure that the balconies were indeed precluded from being enclosed….and was told they were. Passes 5- 0

Public Comments began with the new organizational rules explained by the Town Manager. They went off without a hitch…no hat needed…no time stopped!

Commissioner Comments…. will now be rotating each meeting with who begins…starting with Commissioner Dodd and working down the dais to his right…

Commissioner Dodd..Talked of his promises while campaigning…two of which were the Overlay Districts and term limits which will be on next agenda.

Vice Mayor McIntee…Talked of peace, working together, complimented the new mayor so far for her performance on the dais…said there are 5 watchdogs on the dais…everything is on the table…listening..super employees in our town.

Mayor Minnet….Repeated much of her swearing in speech…unity, respect, civility…talked of sponsored events…community calendar…professional fire with auxiliary, police, EMS,…and a workshop to address it.

Commissioner Clottey….Looked forward to working together over the next 4 years…addressed accounting from Town Manager on annexation excess.

Commissioner Silverstone…Wants to hear from people that they going in the right direction…working with the town…only as good as the residents input…sensing a good “team”, good balance…on the same page on the dais. Boards to be re-staffed.

Good News…. the Pelicans are put to rest!!! We will have much more distinguished entry ways with concrete type “wall” with the town emblem, and 2 flags…the American and town”s.

Palm Club…as predicted an overflowing crowd from the Palm Club…represented by their president….

He came he said without legal council…but what he was presenting was reviewed by their attorneys.

He described the events that had taken place from annexation, the South Beach Civic Assoociation,Parker, the Town Attorney, the common good (due to toxic environment) and comparisons to Sunset Lane. He added a few eye openers…throwing about such statements as…extended legal battle…risk of losing them to another municipality.

The response was as expected by the commissioners….ranging from questions on the excess amounts needed to be researched…need proof of the correct amount….differences between Sunset Lane and Palm Club….Bert J Harris …septic remaining in place…excess monies paying for services before excess is accounted for…getting a bond as the south end did with their own sewers…ending with Vice Mayor McIntee saying a mandate from voters said no to sewers on private property.

Mayor Minnet…thought further delays will continue to destroy our environment….wanted a commissioner, Town Atty. to work together with Palm Club.

Commissioner Dodd made a motion to have the Town Manager look into the excess revenues and report back to the commission at the second meeting in March. Passes 5- 0

The room emptied out quickly…a recess was called.

What was said on the dais could possibly be used for “discovery” if legal action occurs from the Palm Club in the future.

Town Planner…his position…it’s over ..after Seagrape completion…but what of the “hidden in the consent agenda” Washingtonia sidewalks? I would think Walter Keller must come before this new commission with not only change orders for Seagrape but Washingtonia…his initial estimate must be too low!

EMS…presentation by Town Manager….just as written by John Thompson when he investigated on his own…AMR is indeed equal to BSO…exceeds the state requirements…has a closer backup with Holy Cross Hospital…cost of 670 thousand vs. BSO 1.9 million!

Commissioner Silverstone….in the past stories of lack of safety not backed up by facts.

Commissioner Dodd…AMR not a quick taxi service to the hospital…training on the same level as BSO…equally state qualified…need workshops to get the message over to our residents.

Vice Mayor McIntee…outrageous BSO union..AMR will also provide full- time firefighter on each vehicle who will jump off and join VFD leaving 2 people on ambulance. AMR backup a half mile away at Holy Cross Hospital…BSO around 14 miles.

Commissioner Clottey…Asked questions of VFD firefighters…about what kind of fires they fight.the highlight…VFD responses of…high- rise fires…misconceptions about ladder trucks and repelling off buildings… firefighter training…and that the Cristelle would not even allow a ladder truck in their parking lot…since it could fall into the garage!

Another Highlight….VFD has 30 members and an overflowing amount of applications and inquiries…including town public works employees…a practice of tradition in this town…sorely missed!

Mayor Minnet…asked of the liability to town…insurance…from AMR…Town Manager informed her insurance and liability rest with the companies whether it is AMR or BSO not the town. The Mayor questioned AMR’s credentials ….citing Davie using AMR for only a year…Vice Mayor McIntee responded that AMR has the contract with FEMA for South Florida!

A workshop will take place…

Hillsboro Inlet appointment was re-appointed from former Mayor Parker to Commissioner Dodd. Passes 5- 0

Easter By the Sea was announced…Crisite Furth, VFD, Jim Silverstone, CIC and volunteers from throughout town will come together for this event.

4th of July will be co- chaired by Commissioners Clottey and Dodd.

Former Commissioner Marc Furth was installed officially…as the official Town Photographer…a job he has been doing un- officially for some time now! Passes 4- 1

VFD was given…. after discussion and both Vice Mayor McIntee and Commissioner Silverstone re-cusing themselves…. 83 thousand dollars to get training done..from March until September. Passes 2- 1

Broward Urban Independent Fire District…voted down. Passes 5- 0

Town Managers report…town workshop covering 5 topics…March 11,2008 at 4 pm
