Commission Meeting Cont….

continued 6/11/08 commission meeting…

as previously posted…BCbytheesea was wrong on requirements for 1st reading…

The ordinance passed this time for eliminating the requirement of properties to hook-up to the sannitary sewer system…giving some relief to Palm Club…passes 5-0..

BCbythesea…maybe the Palm Club and Sea Ranch Lakes will not be so quick to want to switch after hearing about the ugly lift station…which cannot be hidden from view…as Bel Air’s newly formed Beautification Committee were informed of yesterday….

As expected…both items for 2nd reading…which is definitely required to be published…and was…..for music hours extended for special events….

NOTE: Jazz on the Square will be held on July 4th!….

and the coconuts are now up to the owners….to remove or not…

both passed 5-0…

Commissioner comments…

The Mayor thanked the staff and the Town Manager for taking the time to review with her…reminded all of Ocean Watch this Sat. at Anglin Pier 9am- noon…updated all on her Bank United “First 110 Days” ..and remembered Uli Brandt…

Comm. Clottey…spoke of the budget…that she will not vote for any renovations or large expense on the newly purchased hotel….unless it is part of an overall town hall plan…in the future…believes it is important to give back to the taxpayers with a millage rate cut…made her stance on the gas port known…voiced concern over delays in past capital improvement projects…the delays… such as Seagrape/ Washingtonia…. called for the Town Manager to look into the change orders and Walter Keller’s charges…also spoke of July 4th…

Comm. Silverstone…was quite choked up when describing the ethics charges that were dismissed against him and the Vice Mayor…describing his situation over the past year…and speaking of moving on….

Comm. Dodd… Re-iterated his direction for the Master Plan Steering Committee to take on the role of “green” lighting in the new pavilion….and to have 1 specific project to bring to the commission…also he thanked Peanuts and Tatiana for the P&Z package ..acknowledging he too wants the repealed overlay districts to be redefined by the board… he went on to address the conflict of interest he see with the new Special Magistrate and the Town Atty. law firm…previous post…from J.P. Bender article…. last week..www.flsentry.com

talked about the millage rate…the revenue budget and the infrastructure…ending on the highlights of the July 4th plans…and calling for participation….non- political event….

Vice Mayor… went over the ethics charges dismissed…compared the expense incurred by him and Comm. Silverstone …to Mayor Parker’s $30 thousand dollar attorney fee last year…spent more time on the Futures…Mark Brown…the divisiveness…and asked all to work together ..and extolled the upcoming July 4th festivities….

Everything on the consent agenda was passed….previous post…under agendas…

Resolution 200-15…opposition to the Calypso LNG project…Comm. Clottey…explained why she put this on…..the commission changed some of it to take out terrorism…safety of the residents…and added in to have residents contact the Gov. and state and national legislators…

The Vice Mayor and Comm. Dodd each gave their support to the resolution…while personally thinking otherwise….but voted with the dais for the will of their constituents…who contacted them… passes 5-0

Old Business….Fire Services RFP for VFD….passes….4-1 Mayor Minnet dissenting…

Kudos to Comm. Clottey…Chief Perkins and the Town Manager for clearing up what will become of any SRL income to the VFD if they win the RFP ….

it will all go to the town…to be put in the designated town reserve account for fire equipment…and will only be released to the VFD upon formal requests to the town commission …

On the subject of the fire trucks…still a little confusion on why the Town needs to purchase the $ 70 thousand dollar fire truck…that the VFD was all ready to purchase with their own donated funds…as they have done with a $24 thousand dollar pumper truck which will arrive shortly…with the age of these two trucks…..and the proposed referendum to be addressed ….at the next meeting… to assure … it would take a vote of the residents to terminate the VFD …. in the future… the equipment does not have to all be owned by the town….

BCbythesea…if the VFD does have the donated funds for both trucks …let them buy them….and save the taxpayers the expense…

New Business….

The recycling was discussed….and the 1st alternate moved up…to member of the Board of Adjustment…(finally done right)…and 2 new alternates were voted in…5-0

Thank You…Mr. Abbott!…he found that we already own the easement behind Minto…it has been recorded and we do not need to improve it…to keep it…saves the town a million+…

Oriana…yep…one more time the shady past comes back to haunt us…thanks to the previous “players”….after much discussion…the Town Atty. will look into the documents…that differ by saying a ” promenade”…must be in place or it will revert back to Oriana…but Mr Abbott feels it was improper to the intent of the original development order for the former Town Manager to sign off on this condition…

BCbythesea….as… with the Bert J Harris suit that was wrong.to continue….. Mr Abbott…will hopefully find that this too is wrong……giving us the right to keep the easement and saving us another million +…

Meeting over….

Next Budget Workshop/ Commission meeting Tuesday 6/24/08…starts at 5pm….
