Here’s The Scoop…Forget The Research Assistant…It’s Time For Swim Class…Calling All Lifeguards…The McIntee Public Safety Complex Needs You…

March 1, 2009 by Barbara

LIFEGUARD APPLICATIONS BEING TAKEN….

Remember Dear  Readers at the September Budget Workshop meetings where Vice Mayor McIntee suddenly raised the Recreational Budget up to $60 thousand…well that was to give something to his BFF Silverstone…a soccer program…at the Municipal Soccer Field…the one that is the size of a thumbnail with grass that looks worse than a soccer field in Iraq…at the height of the war!..

But it was also “built in” cover for the Mc-Community Pool at the McIntee Public Safety Complex…you know the oversized tub with the big drop off in depth ..(3-6 ft.)…the one that was to be run by the VFD…Well seems no insurance coverage  could be obtained by the VFD……So again…. in the “blurry divide” between the Town and our contractual private corporation public safety fire provider of when they are one and when they are a separate entity……the Town is taking over the program…insurance…liability and the costs…along with the lifeguard…on a contracutal basis…

No to lifeguards on the beach…but at the pool…the salary is negotiable!…

Sentinel today …3/1/09…

TOWN OF LAUDERDALE -BY- THE-SEA

CERTIFIED LIFE GUARD

The Town of Lauderdale-By-The_ Sea is seeking a Certified Life Guard on a contractual basis to give swimming lessons to Town residents. Minimum two (2) years certified and instruction experience required. Salary negotiable. Applications are available at Town Hall…(address…phone #)…

Let’s see hand wringing over a research assistant to do the backup research needed  …Departments run by inexperienced brought up through the ranks beholden employees…Another year of no Town Manager “Performance Review”…But at a snap of the VM’s fingers…the Town jumps to… for a swimming program and all that entails?…

Quick someone get the life preserver!…

Here’s The Scoop…LBTS Town Law Firm…Makes The Papers….Stimulus….Keep It Local…

February 9, 2009 by Barbara

MAKE THAT “GOLDEN” SHOVEL IN THE GROUND….LOCAL….

OPINION…MIAMI HERALD…2/9/09….Business Section…….
‘My view: Give stimulus straight to local governments
By RICHARD WEISS’

Excerpt…(link below for full text)……….

‘NO `POLITICS AS USUAL’

Finally, the selection process for local government projects is generally free from the partisan politics more prevalent at the state and federal level.

The majority of local government projects are conceived, bid and constructed free from labels such as ”pet projects” or claims of catering to “special interests.”

Local governments generally make the decision to construct public works projects based upon a sober assessment of need as opposed to the urging of one person or of a special interest group.

The decision as to the allocation of stimulus funds will be among the most important decisions Congress will make. How the package is implemented will have a direct effect on its success.

Projects should be quickly funded using existing programs, procedures and protections at the local level, free from “politics as usual.”

BC- Does Mr. Weiss think that goes for private property as well?……..

The Palm Club still ready with a lawsuit…Bert J Harris/and “precedent” with Sunset Lane sewers provided by LBTS…along with paving Sunset’s …lane…BUT…the Town has still applied for the “shovel” grant…(not known…. if those “pesky details” of it being a private property were divulged….)….

The big question is…Is it still  a “private property” when it’s for the “greater good”…health…environment…2010 votes?….

As one Commissioner said…”They should pray they get it…and can get a bond for for the Palm Club owners to pay the difference”……

The reader wants to know…if they are salaried employees…..are they paid the same for 30 hours…as they would be for 40?….

Heard Around Town

June 19, 2008 by Barbara

Heard around town…

Not all are on board with the pavilion…many think it might not be the time…

Lots are questioning the price tag… approx. a million….for a “shell”…with no walls and no bathrooms….

The promenades…. they don’t get it….and want the land without the million dollar stipulation…Oriana once again they sigh…

What’s the deal with Oriana…are we done yet?…is always the follow-up…

Crumbling roads…near Bougainvilla…Imperial Lane…shoddy work….a definite sink hole in the making….

Code enforcement….previous post….again just the messenger…. no retribution….

The banners…absolutely…. no positive feedback…not a one….

Washingtonia…is it payback for being so vocal?…. always asked….(taking bets on how long it remains this way….)

BCbythesea….throwing it out on a Thursday….

Did anyone bid on the warehouse…putting up that $200 grand to bid on 6/12?….

Progress reports please….

The requests from ….

Comm. Clottey…direction to staff….on Walter Keller…change orders…monies….Tenex….

Comm. Dodd…..direction….. to staff……materials for P&Z/Master Plan Steering Committee….

Follow-up….on the “irrigation change order”…previous post…a cover for the “overlooked” sprinkler system for the swale areas….well they are going in…but…

where will they tie in…to the homeowners?… if so better let them know….who’s paying to water the land they were told was not theirs’…

Is LBTS responsible for paying Tenex…due to Keller’s set-backs?………….

Are we holding payment to Keller….and who is contacting FPL/Comcast…etc.?….

Will we allow the pavilion job to go to Tenex if they have not completed Seagrape /Washingtonia…or pull them off the job?….

more to come…..

Questions

March 23, 2008 by Barbara

A reader asks….With all the new development on El Mar Drive, why do we still have standing water in the streets, in the small drainage valley, and over the walks?

(I have addressed this in previous posts… Assistant to Town Manager told me the sewers were cemented over years ago….)

The reader continues….

Tonight, 3/22/08 @8:15, a family with 2 small children under 5 years old, were forced to walk in the street, without appropriate lighting (God forbid we lose a sea turtle), and were almost hit by a speeding jeep paying little attention.

The reader continues…..

the city should create a SAD (special assessment district) and install 36×42 oliptical sewer pipe  able to contain much of the downpour on a regular basis.

This will create a pedestrian friendly “walking style community” atmosphere

What do you think?

Dear Reader:

I think we need to address this as soon as we can…this is supposed to be our “Scenic Highway”….and it is anything but…these days….

I have sent you numbers to contact some of the Commissioners and suggested you contact city hall….please do so and let me know how you fare!

Questions

March 22, 2008 by Barbara

A reader wants to know….

Oriana has a new sidewalk ….it was extended in front of their neighbors property… (in previous post)….now the neighbors sidewalk is half “red” in color and half not!

Wasn’t the LBTS pink that was required…. we have the wrong color in the new park by Minto also…

Was the city aware that this extension of the sidewalk was happening…and how about making it right for the neighbors?

Another reader….

What’s with Wings.?…

as I have said before…they are an established company…permitting process should be down pat with their contractors…

Wings said it would take 6 months to open…still no construction…..

They have had their site plan approval for months….

My personal view …if no action this time next month….it might be a flip?

Is the A1A parking lot going to be sold?

Not anytime soon…but it should be an item of consideration….(in previous posts)

Thanks for the questions…let’s see if you have some answers from the town or Commission….
