Blind Loyalty

I have a real problem with “blind loyalty”….

it is the type of loyalty that usually ends badly….

those who insist on this… live by the “code” ….are usually entrenched in the police/ fire/ armed forces/ union … and definitely the political world ……

a”chit”……. is something expected in return for this kind of loyalty……. nothing is without strings attached……..you rub my back…I’ll rub yours… to look the other way….cheer-lead…. do not question…. do not “break ranks”….. it comes in many forms…. non- monetary of course….

Different players….therefore…. must be different…even though from the outside…it looks the same….and questions arise….

it is not personal….definitely not personal… nope… just a matter of  principal ……..

spending years watching the “blind loyalty” scenario coming from those previously in power…. perception is still the driving force in life….

We were told by the local paper, the local largest civic organization, along with those old timers who witnessed it for last 12 years…..how things worked in town….Mayor/ Town Attorney/ Town Manager/ Town Clerk/ Commissioners…..no checks and balances…. business as usual….

the new majority has taken over……..but still I see some of the same ….. many are angry with me for saying this….but the further away I am from the “group” …this is what I see….

as posted previously….

the Vice Mayor introducing a rule that keeps speakers in the audience from saying the names of those on the dais when being addressed….

the incumbent commissioners attempting to prevent the audience from speaking at 2 workshops….

following the same, tired, inequitable procedures to appoint members to Town Boards….even though a fair way to represent the voters was offered up…. both by John Thompson and Commssioner Clottey…

choosing a Town Attorney with only 1 coming forward….on the say so of the Town Manager….(again she may be 100% on target, but it speaks volumes of past acts by the former commission)….

excuses of not wanting to ruffle the feathers of the applicant with another RFP….does not fly…this is business…and a normal action by any means with this kind of singular response….

wanting to save $1300 dollar on another ad…come on…. in the scheme of $300 thousand expected for salary….. doesn’t wash….

contract of “day to day” basis…sounds good if it actually ends up that way…and an independent person with legal knowledge should be dealing with the contractual agreement…not just the Town Manager…..due to her having a history with them… again…perception

This is not a cyclical 12 year given…this change of the majority….

it is a 2 year ….. to get it right …and see if those who made this change possible …. like what they see…..

voters are fickle…. times are fickle….memories are long….

In my opinion….at the approximate 6 week mark for this new majority….forget the “blind  loyalty”….. whether real or perceived…..

question as before….consensus ….. openness…. perception….

think ahead…put in place what this majority would want if they become the minority at the next election….

get referendums out to the voters on the Overlay Districts so they do not revert back without a vote….

add onto that referendum…sidewalks…uniform…equitable with the voters… and any other town wide impact issues….

re- visit Town Board member process….make the appointment by a commissioner the requirement … put it in the charter….so if the new majority is again the minority they are guaranteed representation on the boards….
add 2-5 more members of the Master Steering Committee… 5 is too small….

use the committee to bring forward all those past studies done for the future of the town for all to see….use them to bring in all their resources from other towns…….to save us from repeating their mistakes…. as was offered in the past…. use the expertise of all members…leave the “clean house” politics at the door….

take up the names not being used to address the dais….and return it to  being allowed…….. a first mis-step that has not died down in the publics opinion…

it is a no brainier that AMR/ VFD  will be the catalyst for the who will  be the majority next time…

so  to….will the appearance, the perception, the actions of those on the dais going forth….
