Updates…Chamber Art/Craft Fair……Anglin Monument…Counting Candidates…

November 24, 2008 by Barbara

A LITTLE HISTORY……. 10 YEARS OF LBTS ARTS AND CRAFT FAIRS…

Thank you for your very nice remarks on the Art/Craft Show. A little background: 10 years ago when I was Program Manager for the Main Street Program (that went belly up) I brought the show to town. After Main Street folded I gave it to the Chamber who has been doing it ever since. Howard Alan Events (he does the Las Olas Art Show) gets all the vendors, does all the advertising and we set up a booth to sell our LBTS merchandise. When Bill Davis was president he had the very brilliant idea to offer the parking lot to our Chamber members at a reduced cost compared to what Howard Alan charges to help out our local businesses. It has worked very well and this past week-end the members were all happy with the crowds that attended.
Just thought you might like to know how this all happened.
Judy
Thanks for the background…faithful readers love to know this stuff…and what a surprise that on the 10th anniversary…former President…and LBTS business owner Bill Davis finally took part in his own “brilliant idea”…to find out just how brilliant it was!…
Note to readers…background and history from individuals and organizations…are always welcome…and encouraged!…

Many at the Arts and Craft Fair were glum …hearing the news…of no Christmas-By- The- Sea festivities this year…just a simple tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 2nd, 7 pm…Hopefully next year…we will be back on track…

THE ANGLIN MONUMENT …

What’s up with the historic Anglin Monument that is stuck out in front of the Minto construction site?…

Long ago Minto came to the podium and discussed the move of this cherished monument….. was this another case of staff dropping the ball?…This oversight needs to be addressed…ASAP!…

THEY ARE LINING UP…

Yet another resident stepped forward with a name of another formidable candidate…this resident hopes to inspire to run for commission from the north end of town…to oppose McIntee if he decides to make another run for commission from this side of town…this writer’s lips are sealed…but… WOW…if this keeps up…the race will be quite crowded …offering enormous opportunity for the town to choose new elected officials with credentials unsurpassed…and calm …pleasant demeanors sorely desired by the residents…

more to come…

Updates…Port-A-Potties…Lights Are On…COs…Alley Ways…Change Of Dates…Acquisitions….Elections….And More…

November 23, 2008 by Barbara

ON THE RADIO…

According to a report heard on the radio…for the Obama Inauguration they are expecting 4 million people…and they said it would require 80 thousand port-a-potties!…

So that is 1 port-a-potty for every 50 people…meaning…the Town of LBTS was looking towards 3500 people for the Chamber’s Christmas By The Sea event…in asking them to have 47 port-a-potties in place!…

A quick look out on El Mar this weekend …by Country Ham & Eggs…for the Art and Craft Fair…4 port-a-potties…

At the Halloween event the CIC said there were over 3000 in attendance…where were the port-a-potties…or did the indoor bathrooms equal 47 port-a-potties?…Don’t restaurant bathrooms count?…

On 4th of July…it is said an equal number of people were in town…where were the 47 port-a-potties…HMMM…smells ….political…

LIGHTS ARE ON….

A walk along El Mar shows lights are on…in units in Villas By The Sea…and the announcement was made in the Sentinel New Homes section…welcome new LBTS residents…

WHERE’S THE CO?…

At the Board Of Adjustment meeting Wed. Nov. 20th…the applicants who came before the board ..asking for a variance to build a single family home on the site of the Courtyard Hotel on El Mar…(previous post…under boards)…spoke of meeting their next door neighbors to the north…in Oriana …so did that mean the neighbors are actually inhabiting the development?…If so…did they get the Certificate of Occupation…and where is the million dollars in escrow for LBTS?…HMMM….

E-MAIL FROM A READER……

The holiday tree wrapping has been done in the past by Peggy Mohler from Aruba…and Dave Gadsby from Village Grille…and they will be extending the lights on the trees again soon…nice to know…but it really should be done by the Town…..

Also heard that the alley behind Aruba is used by Aruba/Village Grille/The hotel next door…and Waste Management…

What’s left out from the assertion though…the daily use for the Aruba valet parkers…where they make their way from A1A…down the alley next to Country Ham & Eggs…cut across El Mar…by the median…into the traffic heading north…to cut into the alley opened up to them giving them the access…. something the pier owners are prevented from using…now and when they too have a restaurant…at the pier…

MC-LBTS….

What’s up with this…the first December regular commission meeting usually held on the 2nd Tues. of the month is being put off until Dec.16th…the 3rd Tues. of the month…to accommodate the vacationing Vice Mayor!…Can anyone even imagine what the then- Commissioner McIntee and his Commissioner-pal ..would have said if any of the Old Guard had done this?…YIKES!…

BCbythesea…also hears that the Master Plan Steering Committee meeting set for Dec. 15th was canceled and moved to Thur. Dec. 18th…again to accommodate the vacationing Vice Mayor and the CIC Christmas party…which would leave the MPS Committee and the P & Z Board without a quorum…due to the lopsided number of CIC board members in each group!…DOUBLE YIKES!…MC-TENTACLES OF GOVERNMENT SCREECHING TO A HALT!…

ACQUISITION…DEJA VU….

Did you know that on Tues. Nov. 25th …New Business…item 16K…DEJA VU…from Commissioner Silverstone..( It was Comm. Silverstone who put the 1st property on the agenda for purchase)….to buy another property for the town…the property is located on Bougainvilla right behind the the new McIntee Public Safety Complex…( still not occupied)….the price $800 thousand….a walk by the property…shows…it mirrors the size of the property the town bought for the Mc-Complex…in size…which means we the taxpayers paid $1 million too much!……(the extra million to be on A1A excuse……just won’t cut it)…

Update required….for the warehouse sale…that the Manager was sure would take place by now…making the last purchase an even deal…Any showings?…..Any offers?….

This new majority caused themselves major damage with the prior land acquisition…from those who had just voted them in….and if they proceed to buy yet another piece of land…and the Manager has the audacity to say from her seat in the center of the dais… …after being asked by either McIntee or Silverstone…that we do indeed have the funds for this purchase….then the 2010 election will be a sealed…….with just who will and who will not be sitting in the seats of those up for re-election……no doubt!…

BCbythesea…hears that if Commissioner Silverstone does decide to run again…he will be facing a very formidable opponent….in the south end of town…very formidable!…

Also, finally gone ….. the BSO trailer…next to the possible land purchase property…

more to come…
