DAY 3…..No computer communication still to Town Hall…An informed and knowledgeable reader says this is highly unusual for government to be down so long…This writer’s public records request made on Friday came back today as mailer failure as did others who made important requests to their Town government….Essentially Town Hall in LBTS is shut down!… No back-up for the meeting on Tuesday night…So where is the administration on this?…OUCH!…

………………………………….

NOT PLAYING WELL WITH OTHERS …..

Last night LBTS Pacific Blues the business who brought us all together for the Town Manager’s choice of an “appropriate meeting” (per her statement at the 1/12/10 Commission meeting) …did not turn on their sign’s lights!…We hear the managers did not take any of the businesses on their offers to assist in the store’s lack of business they contend results from the Saturday night special event put on by Athena and 101 Ocean!… Too bad, the Town was filled to capacity with those united in support of weekend special events in LBTS!…

……………………………………

HOW MANY FIREFIGHTERS DOES IT TAKE ?…..

This writer had a “visit” at Sea Ranch Club from the VFD today…lights and sirens blared…as the call came for an elevator malfunction….Nice response…but lights and sirens…Really?….OOPS!…

……………………………………………….

Steve, I would like to make a public records request the bids for the 9 companies whose bids were opened but not read on July 29, 2009 at 2 pm in Town Hall for the IT bid 09-0602
I find it most disturbing that transparency was suddenly thwarted at a bid process.
Please contact me when it will be ready. Barbara Cole

Hi:

The Town Clerk says you did request the IT info for the 9 bids in a July 29 e-mail. If you do not wish to pick it up, please let us know.

Steve, I checked, and I did indeed make that request.. ..I was thrown by your 8/6/09 date supplied in the previous post. I did not check back further in my saved e-mails to verify and did not recall it.
I do not think the cost of $47.58 is reasonable. I respectfully ask for the sheet that John Olinzock said would be available without a fee at the August 11, 2009 Jarvis Hall RFP bid “non- read aloud” meeting.
Please let me know when that is ready, and I will pick up all 3 PRRs.
I also ask that going forth I am informed of any additional costs per the 119 statute (sent to you yesterday) before the process begins as it was done previously for Mr. Brandt.
I await your response, and thank you for finding my request.
Barbara Cole

more to come….

Wrapping it up at 10:02 pm…the man holed up in his LBTS apartment building…just south of the LBTS Chamber was apprehended and taken away……

According to BSO Sgt. Palmer…the BSO was called on the cell phone number and not 911…

Readers…BSO wants it known that any call that demands a quick response…call 911…it’s imperative to enlist fast action from the department…

The call came to Sgt. Palmer concerning a man causing a disturbance….He was armed with knives…. Prior to BSO getting involved they heard a loud crash …The suspect had rammed a Lamborghini….. LBTS-VFD arrived on the scene of this accident and remained throughout the event……. The man then fled the area ….The BSO tried to stop him as he drove at a high rate of speed around the town….He then ran from his car and went into his own apartment located just south of the LBTS Chamber of Commerce…The scene grew larger with more police and a swat team called in surrounding the area for blocks…It ending with the suspect being apprehended approximately 3 hours later…with no injuries sustained by the suspect, residents or any of the public safety department officers involved….The suspect was brought to the hospital…cleared and then transported to jail….

The incident report will be posted when received…

A big thanks to all agencies involved in protecting our town!….

A Cup Of Coffee And A laptop………

UPDATE- ISOLATED CASE?…..

The recent robbery on Imperial Lane…the BSO is on top of it…Right now…it might just be an isolated situation…and while we all need to look around …for strange vehicles and questions anyone who comes to our doors unannounced especially if they claim to be from Town or a utility…it appears there is no “rash” of these types of incidents.

The BSO is also actively using the new video surveillance to help with this incident….

UPDATE-DROWNING…WHAT DROWNING?….

Although the Vice Mayor at the 2/24-25/09 Commission meeting said the following…VM- ” Second of all I owe the Mayor an apology.”…he went on to relate a story…of a drowning that occurred and the Mayor unaware came to a VFD group in the throes of debriefing…”very bubbly” …introducing herself…and he (VM) was not responsive…not only because of the drowning…but he had an hour before read an e-mail…calling the VFD “ambulance chasers”…”

The BSO and AMR have said that there was no drowning that occurred in the time of this e-mail he referred to…and the last “drowning” call was NOT…on Sat. Feb. 28th… it turned out to be an “apparent intoxicated male” who did make it back to shore….The last drowning…. the “floater” in mid January….previous post…

BC- It seemed suspect at the time to this writer…seeing that Commissioners would be informed of any drownings…and they seemed to be in the dark…Either the VM was making up stories on the dais or drownings are being covered up that would coincide with the e-mail McIntee referred to which was sent to the Town Manager…not the VFD…on Feb.17,2009….An e-mail request has been sent to the VFD on the drowning they were being debriefed about and a request for a drowning incident report….in February…

In this time of so many wanting lifeguards and others seeing no need …to possibly make up such a story for “effect” on the dais is most regrettable for the Town and the VFD if there is no report to backup such a claim….

SPEAKING OF “AMBULANCE FOLLOWERS”….

Has the VFD gone ahead with their “plan” to stop “following” AMR on “other medical” calls?….

AMR is in the process of contacting BSO dispatch themselves to stop following the VFD on alarm calls to homes that are false alarms…while being kept informed during the call if they are needed…developing a protocol that will be more productive…and efficient…

Also for many who have seen the AMR vehicle in front of the Holy Cross nursing home on Federal Highway a few blocks north of Commercial on the east side…Yes… that is our ambulance…It did not work out with Holy Cross to be on the hospitals main grounds…so they are located at the hospital owned nursing facility…leasing out quarters…from them…

UPDATE- FORGET THE SHOWERS….

Remember when VM McIntee said the main entry onto the beach was at the Oriana pedestrian beach entryway?….Well seems the way to wash off the sand for those who partake in the access…is in the Oriana water features in front of their building!…YUCK!…

UPDATE- TIME TO BITE THE BULLET?….

Right after the Jan.29,2008 election we received 3 “rude awakenings” to the new way of doing business in this town…with the Vice Mayor putting forth insurance for Commissioners …cell phone allowances and of course the public safety complex…

On the insurance front…at that time …a follow-up came by way of the Town Manager on the VM’s behalf for money to go to those Commissioners and employees who took a pass for whatever reason from getting a fully paid insurance perk….it died with no dais member “acting” to enact it….

John Thompson spoke around that time that employees and Commissioner should be paying for their insurance just as required at most businesses….

Fast forward a year and more and more businesses are requiring their employees to pay a monthly cost for insurance…Now with so many private citizens facing hard times…and feeling government salaries…pensions….and insurance should not be a burden to taxpayer….the “drumbeat” of government employees paying for insurance is growing louder….http://www.miamiherald.com/news/miami-dade/story/927080.html

UPDATE- PAVILION PITFALLS….

We hear the cutting back of the medians…which were brought up in the past…came to be not because of any “resident” inquiry…but because a severe problem with the grading of the Pavilion itself…

It was found the pitch of the road was such that the Pavilion floor needed to be increased and if the road was left as-is..cars would have been making that “roundabout” on 2 wheels!…YIKES!…

We also hear the construction company have been kept waiting on “finals”on permits such as the “trusses” for a secondary company to make their way from out west after Broward County did not think “they” should sign off!…HUH?….

We hear the construction company personnel think the amount of poles we have holding up the roof are way over what is called for…by at least 8- 10!…OOPS!…

Remember the date of completion March 4th…then the 10th…on the 3/10/09 agenda…Town Manager Report…item A…Tentative Ribbon Cutting Ceremony-Beach Pavilion-(March 30to April 8, 2009) Assistance provided by Commissioner Clottey, Sandra Booth, Co-Chair of Master Plan Steering Committee, John Olinzock, Assistant Town Manager and Town Staff-cost $1000

Comm. Clottey wants Lynn University…(brass will be perfect the Director from their conservatory said)….Florida Youth Orchestra as well?…per Comm. Silverstone?…Note to the TM- Sandra Booth is the Vice-Chair of MPSC…but kudos for her being involved as she was instrumental in its design….and the date…to be decided…

more to come………

GOVERNMENT MOVING QUICKLY…BEHIND THE SCENES…

Thanks to the internet…a copy was posted…to show the structural inspection of the pavilion was “rejected” on 12/12/08…previous scoop post…below and scoops category…

This morning some calls with Broward County…where they insisted the Town had their permits…and were in review… A copy was sent upon their request to show the 12/1/ 08 permit application and the 12/12/08 structural….reject review….

Now online…it was approved …AFTER…. the inspection…today!….12/23/08

(A link to the Broward County site…shows the comments are also are wiped away…….but they remain in the previous scoops post…OOPS!)

This writer is told the Broward County official said Broward County were “unaware” of the pavilion project…when told the project began weeks before the permit was applied for!…
