Here’s The Scoop … The 2nd Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Candidate Treasurer Report For Seat 3 In The 2012 Commission Race …

December 30, 2011 by Barbara

IS THIS LBTS’ VERY FIRST “STAYING NEUTRAL” ELECTION? …

Dear Readers …The 2nd Candidate Treasurer Report was due today …Mark Brown handed his in one day early with his opponent Edmund Malkoon turning his in today … This writer made a Public Records Request for them and received them this afternoon… Mark Brown’s report was 5 pages with 2 full pages and 1 half page of contributions…Edmund Malkoon’s was 3 pages with 1 half page of contributions ..The 2nd reports covered contributions and expenditures between Dec. 10th to Dec. 23rd 2011… Below are a few jpgs from the two reports … What is most interesting and disturbing in this commission race is the rampant remarks from so many of wanting to “remain neutral” in this election by way of not openly supporting a candidate by either donating to them or  putting  a sign in their yard … How sad and how unfair to these candidates if this is as widespread as this writer is hearing it is!… The right to support a candidate is a gift in this country that other countries fight to emulate…Unless those standing on the sidelines really do believe there is no difference between Brown and Malkoon it makes no sense and is just so wrong… I have also been informed that some of those that are supporting one candidate over the other are doing it not because they support that candidate and what he stands for but are really doing it as a vote against his opponent … What is interesting from the 2nd reports is once again Edmund Malkoon is really seeing the most dismal contribution responses I have ever seen in this town and he still has no donations from any member of the MPSC he sat on!… Those votes I am told are going to Mark Brown…That has to give a voter pause and stick a pin in any thought that there is no difference between the two!…

This report shows Mark Brown received $2,195.00 in contributions in this 2nd reporting period for a total of $18,471.74 …His 2nd round of contributions came from 19 supporters which includes 8 living in LBTS … Edmund Malkoon received $450.00 in contributions in this 2nd reporting period for a total of $3,390.00 His 2nd round of contributions came from 4 supporters which includes 2 from LBTS …..Among those are Comm. Chris Vincent who gave $150 to Mark as well as Edmund (see 1st Treasurers Report post)…Chuck Curtis who is the Fiancee’ of Mayor Minnet gave Mark $100.00 as well as giving $100.00 to Edmund …Mark received a contribution from former UOT President Regis Brady for $100.00 while Edmund received a $200.00 contribution from Dryco Inc. which has an address attached showing it is former UOT  President  (after Brady) Bob Fleishman …Edmund’s 2nd LBTS contribution came from Cindy Geesey’s husband Adam for $50.00 …As far as expenditures Mark Brown reported $300.00 in this 2nd reporting  period with a total expenditures of $8,714.79 …The $300 was for an ad in the ByTheSeaFuture …Edmund Malkoon reported he spent $325.00 in this 2nd reporting period with a total expenditures of $1,275.00 …The expenditures Edmund listed for this 2nd reporting period were $300.00 for an ad in ByTheSeaFuture/ $15.00 to Constant Contact in Massachusetts for marketing/ $10.25 to BSOE for the voter’s list…

The next report is due on Jan. 13th two days after the Meet The Candidate Forum in Jarvis Hall on January 11th at 7pm… That debate will be open to the public and will be televised and replayed on channel 78 as well as being available on the Town website … We are told UOT will meet on Jan. 9th at 7pm having invited not only these two candidates but the unopposed candidates (Mayor Minnet/VM Dodd) as well …We have also been informed UOT will not endorse either candidate remaining neutral as well… Edmund Malkoon has continued his green/ bird election theme with emails to voters to vote for him on absentee ballots because he has been a volunteer of town events as well as a “uniter”…He has lawn signs up with the same green but without the bird background seen today in Terra Mar and BelAir … (An expenditure for the signs does not appear on the 2nd report so it must have been after the 12/23 deadline) …. A fundraising e-invitation was sent out by BelAir residents the Koss’ for next weekend … They do not show up as contributors on either the 1st or 2nd report … Is there a fundraiser lined up at Athena?… Mark Brown has signs out as well that we are told have been distributed with many inside until after the holidays …. Both candidates were interviewed by the Sentinel this week but it is not known when the article will  be online or in print…  They will also answer another question in the Jan. issue of ByTheSeaFuture and should also be in the Pompano Pelican…I do not know if either paper will endorse as well…The absentee ballots came to voters already and it will be interesting to see what kind of response will come from those who vote this way…If you are a registered Democrat or Independent the ballot has just one vote for seat 3 listing in alphabetical order Mark Brown first and Edmund Fred Malkoon second…If you are a registered Republican you have one additional vote for the Republican candidate for president…The cost to return the ballot is $1.08 in postage up until Jan 22nd with an addition 2 cents making the postage $1.10 …Hmmm…Will some voters decide to take a pass seeing the cost for one or 2 votes remaining neutral?… The Sentinel ran an article this week telling Republican voters to hold off due to the possibility of some candidates bowing out thus making an absentee’s vote null and void…How many voters will follow that advice and then forget until it’s too late?… All in all this is really turning out to be a continuing string of strange new occurrences for a municipal race in LBTS… Once again, it is important who is sitting up on the dais for the next 4 years …It is important that voters make it their business to support their choice of candidate in their quest for that seat as well as doing whatever you can to ensure the right person is advocating for you and the future of this town…

The 2nd Treasurer Reports …

More to come….
