Here’s The Scoop …. Election 2012 In Lauderdale-By-The-Sea … 3 Months To Decide 2 Years …

WILL YOU BE REPRESENTED ON THE DAIS IN 2012-2014? …

Dear Readers… the LBTS municipal election is slated for January 31, 2012…The time to file to qualify to run for a seat on the dais is November 8-22 2011… With the holidays taking time away from active campaigning it leaves limited time for those candidates running to get out there and hit the pavement asking for your vote …Some think that’s a good thing after the last two contentious elections we had…This writer thinks it’s good and it’s bad…Good for less time of seeing their signs on lawns throughout town and dealing with mass mailers…Bad because it may leave many without the right info to make an informed vote that will impact them for the next two years…

Right now we hear there is two candidates for the north seat ready to file…Former Editor Mark Brown (his last time as Editor is the Future paper out this Fri. Oct. 21st) and former Comm. candidate and MPSC vice-chair Edmund Malkoon …We hear Comm. Clottey is either undecided or keeping her plans quiet for the time being… Vice Mayor Dodd is running again for another four years after once again stating as he did 2 years ago he still has no interest in the 2 year Mayoral seat…Mayor Roseann Minnet is running again for her 3rd and final term as Mayor. …No word on candidates from the south to oppose either one… The list of those many thought would run have shown no signs of movement towards letting it be known either at the podium or on the streets …I am told….

I still believe this race will be reminiscent of past elections sans the PACs playing a serious role with a PAC slate of their candidates…The CIC website has been dormant for months showing no new president or board in office and offering up a meeting for May 2011!… Without them actively behind candidates the UOT will surely just be an organization that endorses candidates as well as helping out with campaigns that could very well only be those running from the north!…Other municipalities in recent years have had seats unopposed but it would be new for LBTS I believe….

Where does this writer stand on the candidates and the election? …… I am hoping that the voters will still make whomever is running work for their votes and will hold them to their promises thus holding them accountable when election time comes up again…Sadly as I stated previously those promises often fall to the wayside with revisionist history of campaign promises as those sitting on the dais get way too comfortable in their seats and follow an altogether different agenda than they came with as witnessed by this writer in both the past two commissions!…. I will be looking for those candidates that will do their homework long after the campaigning has ended and question the Town Manager as well as her consultants and staff rather than blindly following recommendations without questions or facts to support those recommendations…I will be looking for south residential as well as business areas to be improved sooner rather than later in cost efficient ways that coincide with the times we still find ourselves in as a nation rather than a 5-year master plan … I will be looking for downsizing our town government once again in order to not be hit down the line with impacts of benefits and pensions for those town employees that eat up our budget… I will be looking for candidates that represent both the residents and the businesses and those constituents who voted for them as well as those who did not…and hope once again electioneering and governing are not two entirely different entities!…

This election I will be like most of you … just a voterĀ  and not involved in the day-to-day campaign process…. with one vote to cast to decide what the next two years will be in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea… I want to make sure my vote counts…. as you should too!…

More to come…from time to time….
