Here’s The Scoop…A Hopper Of A VFD Easter Tale…Who Was First …..Moving Fire Stations…..And A VFD Chief In 2 Places At Once!…

April 27, 2009 by Barbara

THAT’S A BIG ONE ALRIGHT….

Finally the LBTS-VFD provided the public records request for the  Incident Report on the April 11,2009 drowning …..13 days after the incident and 11 days after the BSO produced theirs…

In the meantime Vice Mayor/Deputy Chief McIntee told one of his “tales” from the dais…and said the VFD Beach Patrol was first on scene and had started CPR…

Those who were attending the Mc-Furth CIC Easter-By- The-Sea event were certainly taken aback at this latest exaggeration made by the VM…

We all watched as the 2 ATV’s left for the beach along with AMR and VFD firetrucks…from where they were stationed at the Municipal Park…

This writer previously posted (scoops, public safety categories) the BSO Incident Report that differed in the account given by McIntee …and in the 4/24/09 BTSFuture an article and pictures of ATV 1 & 2 clearly shows they were not on the beach when this occurred...http://www.bytheseafuture.org/

The BSO report stated…”I witnessed persons performing CPR on white female, later identified as Mary Darnely……LBS Fire/Rescue arrived within 30 seconds and took over the scene and administered CPR and moved Darnley to the ambulance.’

The LBTS-VFD Incident Report shows the following…4/11/09…

Alarm 10:13:13 am /Arrival time 10:16:30 am …(BSO Dispatched 10:12 am /Arrived 10:15 am/ Cleared 10:45 am)

Eng 12-Resp Time 0:01:19/dispatch 10:13:32 am /En route 10:15:11 am /Arrival 10:16:30 am /Clear 10:33:08 am

M12 (AMR)….Resp time 0:02:34/ Dispatch 10:13:32 am/ En route 10:14:28 am/ Arrival 10:17:02 am/ En rout (Hosp.) 10: 43:33 am

M212 (AMR) …Arrival 10:18:24 am/ Cleared 10:43:18 am

E212 Resp time 0:03:17/ Dispatch 10:13:13/ En route 10:13:13 am / Arrival 10:16:30 am/ no clear time

BE212 (ATV) …Resp time 0:03:17/ Dispatch 10:13:13 am/ En route 10:13:13 am/ Arrival 10:16:30 am/ no clear time

STA12…Resp. time 0:03:17/ Dispatch 10:13:13 am /En route 10:13:13 am/ Arrival 10:16:30/ no clear time

BC- STA 12 stands for Station 12…good response times for a building to move to the beach!…OOPS!…

BE12 (ATV)….Resp. time 0:03:13/ Dispatch 10:13:13 am/ En route 10:13:13 am/ Arrival 10:16:30 am/ no clear time

DP 12 (McIntee) Resp. time 0:03:17/ Dispatch 10:13:13 am/ En route 10:13:13 am/ Arrival 10:16:30 am/ no clear time

C12 (Chief Perkins) Resp time 0:03:17/ Dispatch 10:13:13 am/ En route 10:13:13 / Arrival 10:16:30/ no clear time……91- mobile command post

BC…This one beats the “tale” of the Station moving to the beach…because as this writer posted and  all in attendance can attest to…VFD Chief Perkins NEVER LEFT his “station” behind his music sound system he was providing for the event…totally oblivious to the call! What a “command post”!…This report was “reviewed” by Chief Perkins…YIKES!…First we have   “2-Hats” Commissioners…and now we have a Chief in 2 places at once!…

The report was made on April 24,2009 13 days after the event…

Reported by 088-Kevin Padden/Officer In Charge 058- Jerry McIntee/Reviewer 081- Robert Perkins…

Author 585- Chavez, Daniel

Narrative Text “At 1013 hours on Saturday April 11,2009 we were dispatched to surf rescue.Seven units were assigned to this incident. Seventeen personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 1016 hours and cleared at 130 hours. The incident occurred at 4144 El Mar Drive L-B-T-S in District 12A. The local station is 12. The general description of this property is beach. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was to provide basic life support (BLS) No mutual /automatic aid was given or received.’Upon E12 arrival, patient was found on the beach unresponsive. E12 provided BLS and released and transferred care to AMR upon its arrival (CP Padden). Pt was transported to Holy Cross hospital by AMR. ” Alarm number 1400376 has been assigned to this incident.

BC- Did Kevin Padden arrive on scene as AMR in AMR truck or as VFD in Beach Patrol ATV?…(possibly off- duty still in AMR uniform?)

VFD report Apparatus BE12…Personnel 1 088-Padden, Kevin

VFD narrative…E12 provided BLS and released and transferred care to AMR upon its arrival (CP Padden).

The time has come to stop all these “shoddy” Incident Reports and to require multiple vehicle reports to done by those on scene within hours of their return from the incident …We were told would be the standard practice of the department by the Chief during their transition period…….

Here’s The Scoop…We Made The Papers…Beach and Banks……

April 27, 2009 by Barbara

SHOVELS ON THE BEACH….

BC- Looks like that “Golden Shovel” from the Stimulus…will be beach- bound…..but please don’t take too much…LBTS has the widest, healthiest beach around…

‘Facing similar concerns, Broward County Click here for restaurant inspection reports — with help from state and local communities — spent roughly $45 million to restore a 6.8-mile stretch from John Lloyd State Park south to the county line in 2006. The county is still collecting the federal share, about $25 million. It has received about $6 million of reimbursement and seeks another $6 million in the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.
Excerpts…
Broward is preparing for the next phase of work on about 4.5 miles of beaches in northern Fort Lauderdale ,Lauderdale-By-The-Sea and Pompano Beach. That too will lead to a request for federal funds.

The costs are justified, local officials say, because beaches draw tourists and local residents who shop and dine and generate tax revenue. The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association, an advocacy group based in Fort Myers, says every federal dollar spent on beach “nourishment” brings back $320 in tax revenue.

“These days, with the economy in the tank, going to the beach is becoming more popular because it’s cheap,” said Steve Higgins, Broward’s beach erosion administrator.’

UPSIDE DOWN PROPERTIES….

BC- “Persuading the lenders”….to pay the maintenance on neglected properties….Nice going!…

Excerpt…

‘Across the state, local governments are grappling with a flood of such distressed properties. While many in Broward County Click here for restaurant inspection reports bill banks for tidying neglected properties, a few cities such as Coconut Creek and Lighthouse Point absorb some costs. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has persuaded lenders to maintain about a dozen homes.’

BC-This writer sent an inquiry along with congrats to Director of Development Bowman…for more specifics on how we managed to do what other towns have not ….any response will be posted in an update…

BC- this is again to change residential permit parking to beach permit parking…requiring a special permit- residential permit will not allow residents to park in theses spots…to do so will cost an extra $20 annually…a perk for some CIC pals!…a loss in revenue to the town….

BC- previously posted public notices/scoops categories….

c.    Commission approval of 3rd amendment for the community bus with Broward County (Esther Colon)

BC- not sure why another extension…no backup and no inclusion of the minutes from Comm. meeting where it was discussed any money/charging for bus was unacceptable…so unless money is forthcoming from County or found elsewhere in the budget….not sure why we have amendment #3…We could always get rid of the Citizens on Patrol and use those funds…

d.    Commission approval of Special Event Permit application for LBTS Chamber of Commerce Event “Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Craft Festival”, Saturday, October 31, 2009, 5:00 AM thru Sunday, November 1, 2009, 9:00 PM (Assistant Town Manager Olinzock)

g.    Commission approval of agreement for Stormwater System Design on Commercial Boulevard east of El Mar Drive with Holland Engineering Inc., in the amount of $3,500.00 (Assistant Town Manager Olinzock)

BC- this is just a small portion of the overall cost…see backup…attached also is cost for Chen& Assoc….It is a project that will need to address the flooding that occurs with any big rain…(happened again  last week) …at the pavilion from runoff said to come from commercial properties north and south of the area…and not factored into the original plans…

Interesting aside…as this writer sat in Town hall on Fri. 4/24/09…a woman came in to pay a parking ticket…she was told only over the phone and the town was in the process of changing the system …but…it has not been voted on yet!…HMMM…. cart before the horse?…Looking to buy the autocite x3 from Duncan Solutions plus  contractual services….

a.    Selection by Town Commission of design for custom banners in the Hospitality and Business District of Town (Assistant Town Manager Olinzock)

BC- backup shows 3 submissions …resident Marilyn Carr/Kim Siekmann -Pomp. Beach/ Jody McClean…This writer still sees this as an unnecessary expenditure when we just paid out $12,000 last year for multiple banners…and now we will pay for new ones and the time to change them…The idea floated for in the ground banners to “sidestep DOT” for signage was a good one…along with following through on the 2007  signage that fell though the cracks…but this is just spending more money for a whim!…

b.    Discussion and/or action regarding Kite Surfing (Vice Mayor McIntee)

BC- this one is back again….and we hear was just discussed in Pompano Beach,  the commission had already decided it. on 1/13/09……and the Town Atty. was to research the legality…another one that languished….

i.    Place shields on every third street light on El Mar Drive, the Minto Parking Lot, and A1A (Commissioner Clottey)

Here’s The Scoop… The $19.95 Lobster Dinner…..”Deal Or No Deal?”….

April 26, 2009 by Barbara

VFD- BFFS ARE LIKE GOING FOR THE $19.95 LOBSTER DINNER….WITH THE  DEPUTY CHIEF…

Anybody who has ever been in the “inner circle” of  Vice Mayor Jerry McIntee has been invited along to The Porterhouse Bar and Grill in Fort Lauderdale  for the $19.95 Lobster dinner…It’s pretty lousy, but those “drinking the Kool-aid”” feel obligated to partake in this ritual…Think of it like a “hazing” requirement to “belong”…to the fraternity…(The VM recently made reference to the “Lobster Dinner” on the dais)…

http://www.pubcrawler.com/Template/dsp_restaurant_zoom.cfm/flat/ID=301225

Now comes reports that there is some major grumbling coming from within the ranks of the LBTS-VFD …That the McIntee hierarchy ( Lobster anyone?) within the department  is becoming more and more intolerable… Some say being BFFs with LBTS-Deputy Chief / Vice Mayor McIntee …….gives benefits withheld from those who dare to question him…or are not “hand picked”  Officers…that the “perks” of being a BFF are growing…..with BFFs and Officers only allowed to view the 70 inch Booster Club donated T.V. in the  McIntee Public Safety Complex…..

Also, we hear  some items of furniture may have disappeared from the department in the transition from storefront to complex…and these may have found their way to certain “in-group” residences…

Have new members been enticed by new bunker gear while others ahead of them in time served in the department are left still using the old stuff?….

Are these BFFs  the ones “playing” on the new Sea Doos as well?…

Who is watching over such acts…. if this is true?…

Did the taxpayers pay $2 million dollars for McIntee to have a private “club”?…

We have personalized ATV signs for $1000 saying who is on duty…..What’s the point except to “campaign?…

We have full page color ads in  the Mc-Furth Times local paper……in each edition…..which is like FPL advertising …what for?…

We have a fire truck purchased…by the Booster Club/and or the Firefighters themselves…depending which “story” is told..A squirt truck that was unnecessary for their ISO rating as stated by the ISO at their poorly attended community outreach program…(previous VFD post)…

We have a Sea Doo and trailer purchased…for water beach safety in the “ever expanding VFD Beach Patrol”…although the VFD are not certified as lifeguards or in Personal Watercraft rescue….( training being done “in-house” by non-certified non-USLA instructors…. previously posted VFD category)….

All have been with Booster club funds…But when was the last time the Booster Club had a donation drive?…

We have certain firefighters making pay equal to any job in retail if you use the numbers thrown out by the VM/Deputy Chief from the dais at the last Commission meeting …($200 a week/$800 a month beach patrol/ added to pay for station call arrivals on approx. 100 calls a month)….Are they the BFFs?…

You can’t have it both ways…Asking the taxpayers to pay $13 thousand + for a special election in November for a referendum to guarantee that the VFD cannot be replaced without a vote of the people…( to be brought back for a vote 5/14/09) while standing idly by with no oversight committee to see how the department is running at the present time………..Declaring with a big “assist” from the Town Manager (who initially declared SHE was the oversight for the VFD ) and that they (VFD)  are a private corporation and as an independent contractor… are exempt from such inquiry…does not hold water to many who have increasing concerns over the daily acts witnessed …..along with  the major programs being initiated and large purchases seen coming from the LBTS-VFD….at record speed in year one…

The above allegations are all hearsay…..due to many who at the present time are still afraid to speak out…and rightfully so…fearing  the “scorched earth” tactics they have witnessed first hand time after time………

So be advised future BFF ….be wary of that invite for the  $19.95 Lobster Dinner…For this is one “deal” that comes with a very big price to pay long after the butter has melted…..

more to come…

Here’s The Scoop …4/28/09 LBTS Agenda …#2…New Business 16 B./”As of 4/17/09 the Town does not have any RFP’s” For 4th Of July ….Oh Really?…

April 25, 2009 by Barbara

JULY 4TH 2009  INFORMATION FROM THE TOWN OF LBTS IS LIKE…..

Recently this writer wrote about the suspicious actions taken by the 4th of July Co-Chairs, the Administration  and Event Coordinator Marc Furth…concerning the 2009 Fireworks  and how the Requests For Proposals were handled after discovering an RFP put up in Town Hall on April 9,2009 and it not being advertised in the Sentinel. It did appear on the Town website and outside Jarvis Hall on  April 14, 2009 …2 days before it was closed to bid responses…as stated on the RFP  April 16,2009 …

I attended an opening of the bids meeting for Contracted Landscaping on the 16th  and asked Assist. Town Manager Olinzock about the Fireworks RFPs (previously posted). He said there had been none…I also sent in an e-mail Public Records request…and received the same response from the Town…no RFPs received…

So imagine my surprise when I looked at the backup materials in Town Hall and online yesterday April 24th,2009…to find multiple responses had been received by the Town!..(link below…if old backup shows up..click refresh button )…

Ms. Cole,

I am receipt of your request for information regarding fireworks.

1. The Town has not received any RFP’s for the 4th of July fireworks.

2. As of 4/17/09 the Town does not have any RFP’s and has not entered into any contracts for the 4th of July fireworks.

Nikki Smith
Senior Office Specialist
Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea

According to the backup material …Assistant Town Manager Olinzck sent out eight e-mail Requests for Proposals (RFP) on April 9,2009 between 4:42 pm and 5:08 pm…To the following companies….Fire Power Displays/Zambelli/Pyro Engineering/Garden States Fireworks/Carabean (as spelled on RFP) Supply/Bio Ocean/Sky Candy Fireworks LLC/Pyrotechnico …(Company just hired by Ft. Lauderdale for their 4th event/previous post)

According to the backup material….. Assistant Town Manager Olinzock received responses from 4 companies…

# 1… was from Jeff Matthews of Melrose South Pyrotechnics Inc. …The company that Marc Furth chose and he, Vice Mayor McIntee, the Town Fire Marshall and John Olinzock met with on March 24,2009…( also there is an e-mail from John Olinzock to Melrose Inc. to reconfirm the length of time for the show…20 minutes, with a Cc to Marc Furth)…Enclosed in the program were the specifics…such as their liability ins., $5 million and their qualifications….the of the size of the shells..2” to 4′ shells and a proposed program with the “Type of Pyrotehcnic Effect:low level through 4” aerial shells” …It includes the Opening Barage/Main Program/Grand Finale/ 2 special segments-effects adding up to 20 minutes for $15,000…No length of time between shot intervals were included but the RFP from the town stated every 10 seconds…No date was shown in receipt of the proposal, but Marc Furth confirmed from the podium on 4/20/09 that it was before the RFP went out on the board and to other companies…which was April 9th…

#2….Dated 4/16/09 received by Assist. Manager Olinzock at 4:17 pm from Zambelli, the fireworks company used last year from the pier…They also offer a program for $15,000 called  “High Impact” (vs Melrose low-impact )…they have liability insurance for $10 million….$5 million in transportation liability…along with their qualifications including safety procedures NFPA  1123 &1126 codes enforced (no mention in the Melrose RFP)…Their 20-25 minute program will be a maximum of 3.5 minute shot intervals…using 3” to 4″ shells….with an Opening Program/Body of Program/Mid- Finale/Grand Finale/ Low level special & various effects…they included a map on pg. 56…(no map in Melrose RFP/hand drawn map in Town RFP) of the beach area with barricades (if no wind= 280 feet circumference uninhabitable)…

#3….Dated 4/9/09 received by Assistant Town Manager Olinzock at 4:53 pm from Beth Sims at Fire Power said no bid…they are completely booked and “unable to accommodate”…

#4…Dated 4/17/09 received by Assistant Town Manager Olinzock at 2:16 pm from Steve Tracyzk at Sky Candy Fireworks…said “unavailable to bid”…Town was way too late in proposal…

BC- So the above information does seem to verify those suspicions that “the fix was in” for the choice of vendor made by Marc Furth…with a big assist from the Town and most likely both Co-Chairs of the event….and they pulled it off with no Sunshine violation …Now that really is “pulling the rabbit out of the hat”!

As for Assistant Manager Olinzock not being honest with this writer in his declaration of no RFPs on 4/16/09, knowing full well he had sent eight out on the April 9th and had indeed received responses at the time he made these claims…including the one from Melrose South Pyrotechnics…is this anyway to conduct business in the town? As resident Happy Vassil said “What a man!”…

I do not know if the Senior Office Specialist was unaware, uninformed or instructed to respond as she did, but in any event this sort of conduct does not bode well for the administration and the open and honest government we deserve in LBTS…no matter who is making the requests…

Here’s The Scoop…Local Papers…Making Her Mark..Despite All The “Poison Arrows” Heading Her Way…

April 25, 2009 by Barbara

LBTS MAYOR MINNET IS MAKING HER MARK…

WHILE DODGING THOSE “POISON ARROWS”….

Recently this writer posted how the town got it right with those 16 votes and the 2008 election of LBTS Mayor Roseann Minnet…

It was met with a moment of anger from her losing opponent…Peanuts Wick on the very day it was posted…(previous post scoops..4/20/09)…before day 2 of the 4/14/09 Commission meeting began…in the afternoon in Jarvis Hall…

Peanuts entered Jarvis Hall and walked  to the front row of the “CIC” side of the room to loudly say to the Mayor who was sitting in her seat on the dais busy preparing for the meeting …”So, you going to let the Greeks run the meeting?”…This writer was seated on the “other side” of the hall and next to a resident as we heard this obvious”slight” made. The resident said that it sounded like a “slur” and said as much to Peanuts…I said that it was “unnecessary” to speak about them like that…Peanuts then said he “heard” I  had written about him, I replied that I had…He was visibly shaking and angered and demanded I mail him a copy…I said I would not and he could read what I had written for himself…He said he doesn’t read “that garbage, Dear”…I told him not to call me “Dear”…I don’t mind his disdain for my site …that’s his right, but I do mind the condescending “Dear” aimed at a woman coming right after calling two town businessmen “Greeks”!…Peanuts went on to say “That’s why you have no friends!”…YIKES!…I guess the name “Peanuts” will stick no matter how much he tries to change it with  immature responses such as these….I replied calmly, that first of all he does not know where I circulate, and that the only time I ever see him is either here (the hall) or at the bars in town when we stroll by them…….I ended with saying if he disagreed with what I wrote I would be happy to post whatever he wanted. He was then mute….At this time I have received no response to the post.

Since then all those I speak to (which are many) that were involved in the campaign and actually read the Peanuts post…say it was right on!…The exchange at the continuation meeting only cemented my belief that we did indeed get it right for Mayor!

Apparently those who may be pushing at this point for Peanuts to run as their “CIC” endorsed Mayoral candidate in 2010 are busy trying to lay the groundwork for it by hurling  “poison arrows”at the Mayor……Whether it is on the dais…with the Vice Mayor badgering her …. the “Gang of 3″…going after her for “Greenefest”,  and “Adopt-A-Street” signage along with shooting down many of her ideas…(only to employ them in items put on the agenda under their own names sometime later)..or with recent accusations that just are not what they appear to be…and they know it…But they never mind putting it out there anyway to get the “kool-aid” drinkers left among them following their lead…and get a rise out of them…

The latest “poison arrows”…were the recently put on as an agenda item that appeared on 4/14/09  under New Business by Vice Mayor McIntee….He wanted to “go after” the Mayor for recusing herself from the Waste Services Contract vote…He started in on her on that night when  she recused herself before the vote was taken , accusing her of asking questions before she recused herself, (she did not. The tape reveals and she informed  the VM she had not)…. Then he went after her again at the last Round Table meeting, and she replied that she had answered the reason for her actions in her written recusal (The VM  must have been in receipt of it) and would not be answering his interrogation at the table……Vice mayor McIntee said it didn’t matter, that he had put it on the next agenda (4/14/09) and he indeed did…He ended up taking it off as the 4/14/09 meeting began..(The 4/20/09  continuation agenda included the following … ‘This item was removed at the April 14,2009 Commission meeting by Vice Mayor McIntee-problem solved’) but in his mind he  most likely thought he succeeded with his intent of casting the appearance of some “dirt”  surrounding the Mayor’s recusal from this vote….

Contained in the 4/28/09 backup..(now online) after the minutes for approval …is the Mayor’s recusal form ..It says the following…’The company of which I am the principal officer has been retained by a business associate of one of the company’s that submitted a proposal to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea to provide sanitation waste collection services.’ Signed by the Mayor and dated 4/17/09…

So the Mayor did her duty and as for her nemesis the Vice Mayor…well,  when it comes to recusals…partaking in such an action and following the process required, that would definitely be confusing and foreign for him comprehend!…

In the Mc-Furth Time 4/18/09 edition the “Gang” went after the Mayor, by printing a story that was a followup to the planned “elephant in the room” Commissioner comments made by the Vice Mayor on the dais at the previous Commission meeting concerning a “Recall” of the Mayor from her condo board…(previous post..scoops/local news categories)…

The Pompano Pelican straightened out the story, and on its front page told the facts…behind the recall that the BTSTimes conveniently ignored…as they did not contact the Mayor hersel and only took what suited their cause…in order to use it later on…for the 2010 election…

According to those involved, the recall was done with a petition “using erroneous information”…stating the board voted for a $4 million dollar renovation that would have cost the building owners $20,000 each…The actual vote was for “a $7,500 contract’ with an engineer…Minutes and/or tapes from the meetings should be available to check for the accuracy of what really transpired…

The board of the Royal Coast  are facing what all of the condos up and down the coast are facing…The costs of dealing with the age of the building, corrosive salt air and a great divide in their building unit owners…Those who want to continue to “band-aid” the problems, a short- term fix……  those who have the desire to invest in the future of their homes…for the long-term…A guarentee for dissention to result…

Many agree with the Mayor’s statement in the Pelican that what the Vice Mayor did was to “politicize” what the Mayor herself said was “a democratic process. In enacting this calculated plan with the BTSTimes he hurt not only the Mayor but all those owners in the Royal Coast who are selling or thinking of selling…because bad press like this…means buyers think twice!…Nice going Vice Mayor/BTSTimes…in these already tough times of selling one’s property……

Look for more poison arrows to come the Mayor’s way…for they will be coming…and most likely they will increase in intensity …as we near the upcoming election…If they stick with their “plan” for a re-match between “Peanuts” Wick and Mayor Minnet…all they can count on is their innuendo…certainly not their candidate!…

more to come….

Here’s The Scoop…..4/28/09 LBTS Agenda…16 H…Just When You Think You Heard It All…

April 24, 2009 by Barbara

FROM THE TOWN WEBSITE…..MR. AND MRS. MELVIN I. ANGLIN……

‘HISTORY OF LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA’

‘Lauderdale-By-The-Sea traces its roots to the 1920s. In February 1924, developer William F. Morang purchased and platted the property of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea from Henry S. Moody and John C. Gregory. Several years later, Melvin I. Anglin, a building contractor and real estate investor from Gary, Ind., bought the land with the intention of starting a new community in Florida. Anglin later became the Town’s first Mayor.

WHAT CHUTZPAH!……

New Business Item 16.H. ‘Move monument at El Prado Park back to its original location. Its present location is somewhat problematic during special events. Since Minto is still doing construction in the area they could be asked to move it for a nominal sum (Commissioner Clottey)’…

BC- OH MY GOD!…A new low …even for the  Mc-Furth “Gang”…… Commissioner Clottey has either lost her mind or is so far gone as a “pawn” for the “Gang” that she cannot see how truly ridiculous this is….

What kind of people could even contemplate such a thing?  To want to move the monument that honors the man who made it possible to have the park they will have their special event  in!……To actually want to move it back to  ” the original location”….Does that “location” mean in front of the temporary Minto construction site across the street where the chances are high of it being destroyed?…

Readers will recall this writer posted a few times last year that the monument needed to be moved to its place of honor in the new park to avoid any permanent destruction……Finally it was happened….

It looks perfect right where it now sits……and they want to move it back to accommodate their 4th of July event…YIKES!..

Is there no one left around the “Gang” with any kind of clarity?…

How far gone do you have to be to actually put this on the agenda?….

Hot off the heels of  Comm. Clottey’s claims that  residents fear calling the BSO Police and her claims of  receiving “a lot” of complaints about noise downtown… that set up the re-tooling of the dreaded “Noise Ordinance” and no doubt an onslaught of decibel meter reading citations that will most certainly descend upon our town businesses once the 2nd reading passes 3-2…..she puts this on!…

This is just downright crazy…and downright sad!…

An intervention is definitely required by her constituents…ASAP!…

Here’s The Scoop…Local Papers…New Advertiser…

April 24, 2009 by Barbara

BCBYTHESEA.COM NOW ADVERTISES IN THE BTSFUTURE …Paid for by the BCbythesea “Booster Club”!…

Dear Readers,

With the newly designed website, this writer had a choice to send out a second townwide mailing or to advertise…

Now that “season” is officially over and many residents are heading home, it seemed a “no brainer”…advertising was the best way to go…

Then came the decision of where would it make the most impact and reach the most people?

Well, that one was easy, all I had to do was take a look inside the mailroom in my condominium …. and check out the newsracks around town…as well as residential driveways at dog walking time…The best “bang for the buck” was to place my ad in the BTSFuture to ensure it would be seen and add to the ever growing number of faithful readers…in year 2!

It is true this writer has been at “odds” with their publication in the past, but a common goal with eyes now wide open can surpass any such differences of opinion.  In the last year through alot of research I found much of what I was told was the truth, were the facts, turned out to be anything but! Those I put my faith in, trusted, volunteered countless hours to  and donated money to had their own private agendas, that have proven to be to the detriment of this town I love……

Placing an ad comes with an association that leaves you wide open for accusations from certain “groups”, as well as being seen as a “ringing endorsement” from those who enjoy your site of the newspaper you have chosen  …..After a year of watching both local papers the association works for me with the often shared viewpoints of the downfall experienced in a little over year one of the “new majority”on the dais …..

This was the right choice to make and I look forward to a “Future” where we “get it right” in 2010…

http://www.bytheseafuture.org/

BCbythesea is also advertising weekly in the Pompano Pelican. The criteria was the same as stated above, with the superb expanding coverage of our town by Judy Vik and the increasing number of LBTS residents who regularly look forward to this publication and her work….

much more to come…

Here’s The Scoop…Tennis Anyone?….

April 24, 2009 by Barbara

THIS DESERVES A SUN- SENTINEL AD?….

What’s wrong with this picture?….

In today’s Sentinel…Employment ads…LBTS has put in an ad for a Tennis Instructor…on a contractual basis…with a minimum of 2 years experience and strong interpersonal skills…Here’s the “kicker”…’USPTA certification is preferred’…certification for Tennis…but not necessary for VFD Sea Doo water rescue? (see previous VFD post ) YIKES!…applications are available at Town Hall..

A look online at the Town website also shows this opening along with the previous employment Sentinel ad for a Public Safety Center Swimming Pool Lifeguard..for the VFD swimming programs…

http://www.lauderdalebythesea-fl.gov/

BC- Now let’s get this straight … We do not advertise for Town department heads in the Sentinel……We do not advertise for firework RFPs in the Sentinel…But we do advertise for recreational contractual positions?… After season, and after we sat through the “Tennis People” uniting to say we only have 2 courts and any expansion of allowing more tennis people would impede their time on the courts?…HMMM….

As we approach the 2010 budget workshops… (dates to be set on Tuesday night 4/28/09 at the Regular Commission meeting)…readers may recall last year Vice Mayor McIntee making the motion that passed 4-1 to increase the recreation budget from $25,000 …doubling that amount…This increase along with all the other McIntee/Colon led expenditures we have seen over the last year beg for questions to be asked about what these “special” purchases and”special”  projects added up together are… vs employing qualified lifeguards on our beach. We purchased  2 VFD-ATVs with all the “bells and whistles”, a 3rd VFD firetruck because the Manager said we must as a matter of “policy”………although after this Town purchase we found out that “policy” was flawed…. We do not own all of the public safety equipment in Town as the Town Manager insisted we did when authorizing/ backing these purchases. In fact the VFD  recently bought a 4th firetruck themselves along with a Sea Doo and trailer and under direct questioning from the dais the BSO Police Chief informed us we do not own the 26 police cars as we all thought we did ..We own 4  leaving  the Town Manager to “sheepishly” concur…We threw money out  ($56,000) to continue the paving, curbing  and sewers at the end of Seagrape Drive which still makes many wonder if we paved a large portion of private property due to that paving going all the way up to a resident’s garage door! Just this week blacktopping was done on a portion of Tradewinds…while we still endure flooding throughout the area and many of the neighboring streets were much more impaired structurally than this one road…(but this road brought forth a new voter)…Other purchases… …from the “biggie” …the Public Safety Center ….with no “offset” in the sale of the warehouse that still sits unsold…no questions asked….no Manager “reports” given…to the ridiculous…light pole banners that will be replaced one year later…to the tune of $12,000…..etc…etc…etc….

These implemental expenditures certainly do add up…and when you add them up…what could the total sum have better been used for?…

Besides the incomprehensible practice of when we do and do not use the Sentinel for advertising…it is astounding to this writer how and when we spend monies on various whims and perks…They happen throughout the year… on Consent Agenda with “sweeping” passes…to assure the expenditures with no questions being asked…

So maybe once more it is time to ask for what was ignored last year around this time…(previously posted on this site from the 1st budget workshop)…

June 2008…

‘Finally…..

this commission at some point during these meetings …should direct the Town Attorney and Town Manager to put into place for next budget season…. a residential budget review board…as offered up recently by resident Bob Eckblad…’

BC- It never happened!….No surprise…

Note…One interesting “find” New Commissioner and “Accountant ” Jim Silverstone put this on the agenda himself May 23,2006 for a “Citizen Budget Committee”…of course that was in the days long before BFF Comm. Silverstone became just a “McIntee 2nd” on the dais!…

more to come…
